This is definitely among the very best of his recorded talks. The interviewer is A1 too. "All the questions are born out of the answers they already have and they do not want an answer to that question." Because that would mean an end of the self, and that is a frightening prospect. Because they want the continuation of the self, they attach great significance to that which they think hold up their selves. Religion, culture, education, employment, marital and family status, money, power, achievements, etc, etc. When you let go of these attachments what is left?

damn right you better like this LBB :) I'm sitting atop a hill right now at a place call kookoo(or coocoo) point in Issaquah, Washington. the people are all taking pictures, I just want to shout at them, "you know, you don't have to take pictures, you can stay and enjoy the view!" but I'm too good natured for that, at least today. it has been another night of no sleep at all, and sitting criss cross aggravates the nerve damage in my leg but I what to do? I am ready to die, long ago, but this body has a different nature. people think I'm very beautiful, that my body doesn't hurt but they really don't know a thing about the way I am functioning, and I'm not just copying UG, though those are his words. at least I hope to write my Fantasy epic before I die.A thanks for keeping UG around and alive, for us that never got the chance to meet him in person. wish you well and keep unearthing treasure! happy new year LBB :D much luv

An 'explosion' or better said, 'implosion' happened to me. 6-7 hours after I was unable to speak to anyone. I was in a foresr, at a festival. These are the words that I wrote after I was able to write something from my experience. I'm not a native english speaker but I think you will understand. 'You exist in your mind. Everything exists in your mind. Your mind is everything. Everyone's mind is your mind. Outside of your mind is nothing, is the absolute. There is only 'I', wich is an illusion, as your mind has no substance. Your mind creates your body and your reality, and your body creates your mind. You created yourself. Everything there is in this percievable reality is 'yourself'. The mind is infinite. The infinite is not the absolute. Beyond the mind is nothing. Is the absolute. The absolute is not plural or singular. It doesn t exist and it doesn't 'not exist'. You are the only one who stands in your own way. You is made of infinite 'I-s'. Stay in the present. If you will focus on the 'present' you will penetrate it. You will 'see' the absolute. The paradox is everything. You can not solve it as this is its nature. When you thought you got it, you switch to the other side. Some insights remain. Stay pure in your mind. Try harder. Remember that there is nothing to arrive to. There is no destination, when your mind is melted, nothing else is there but the absolute. The absolute needs nothing, depends on nothing, it is beyond the concept of 'concept'. It is everything that ever was, 'it is and it isn't' in the same time. The paradox and the dream. Every single 'one of us' must get 'there' by their own. 'Them' are 'you'. 'They' have to discover this on their own.'

That said, I think I understand your intuition about saying he was a materialist. @@lecturesbeyondbeyond he needed nothing? he didnt need a house where to live? a house to repair sometimes (yes house must be repaired)?; he didnt need electricity, hot water, gas for cooking, heather in winter, probably air conditioner in summer; he didnt need to travel every year (he said himself he couldnt stay in one place for more than some time) and travel means tickets, visa, maybe also a car to get where you want (and so a car that you must repair, and put gasoline and so on so on); he didnt need food and water to drink (dont care if he always ate the same rice, always food that costs it is); he never needed new clothes, or to repair them?...Please lets be real guys Another strange thing: he always said he never had not even 1 relationship, but he had no problems in asking or taking all those money, from the same people he said he had no relationship, for his living. The real question about this topis is this: I wonder what would have happened to him if he really had not even 1 relationship? He would have started working or would have lived like a monk in the forest? And if he would have started working would he have said the same things he always said? Easier to say "im not in conflict with socierty" if you never even entered in that society, no? Moral: your economy permits you to live the life you want, both in the case the money are yours, both in case you take them from someone ah and just a side note: to live the kind of life that he wanted, if its true that he lost all his family money, that means he left nothing to his ex wife and daughter, right?... But who cares yes? :) He could use his family money, but not his sons and daughters?...

Agreed there is no god, no spiritual nonsense - and agreed there is no metaphysical "self" there's a dynamic process making models of things, including the ability to model, and that feels like a "self" so the pronoun "I" has some heuristic utility. But... it is easy - trivial - to figure out "what I want." Relief from pain, suffering, and death. Not to have negative valences in consciousness. Everything else is what they sell you, to tell you what you want. But it all reduces to the nociception problem, so I don't understand that part. The rest pretty much agreed.

Sayer Slayer just because something feels right and gets you results, doesnt make it natural, good. Living with others under a state makes your life easier but it dulls you and enslaves you because you never learn to do it on your own (if there's anything to do and how much). Exercise may get you fit but not necessarily healthy as you dont know what health means. Healthy may as well be not caring about health at all and eating whatever you feel like, which is what it is. Love, family, friends and hobbies can get you temporary joy but that same joy eventually starts killing you and those things have their drawbacks to them as well but you are swift to ignore them because culture says you should love your parents, have kids, be social, do something to keep boredom away, etc. The engine and the transistor have escalated humanity in the last 200 years (60 for the transistor) than nothing like the past 500K years since the first modern humans arrived. But look at global warming, overpopulation, etc.

Sayer Slayer there are no concepts and you are the organism. Everything humanity has found about life and using is destroying them.

I don't get it. in one breath you are talking about naturalness and goodness and in the other you are denouncing those things, saying eating whatever you want is healthy, doing whatever you want is healthy. if what a person(creature/animal) wants is close bonds with other creatures/animals isn't that the same as doing what the organism wants? if I want a beautiful animal that is bonded to me, is that me or the organism, are they different? you are obviously not very in touch with what you are. so what if you and me are just organisms, doesn't mean we have to be stupid. get yourself locked up in jail and tell me it doesn't matter lol. you are borrowing UGs ideas but you haven't absorbed much of his intelligence(I'm not saying that it is possible for a person to do that but you catch my drift) you are trying to deny life. if you think you are going to teach someone about themselves you are fooling yourself. I simply responded to your comment and subsequent replies, I'm not assuming you will take anything constructive/useful away from what I am saying, it seems like you only want to tell me the state of affairs, and such people UG has instructed to shoot on sight and in sight... watch out buddy ;) jk no hard feelings in the end. there is no effortless state, pain is part of life, and if joy should be had the burden of pain must be undertaken. unless a person has absolutely no pain or discord, but such cases seem like fantasies. everyone is irked by something or other, it's just part of life, one side
