i just fucking love how the pilot was so cool about following a boat at like 5 knots at 30 feet and using his hand to do gestures while talking and keeping perfect formation. he has been doing that for a long time.

Hey Steveo, thank you for posting this! I am working toward a career as a rescue swimmer. I currently live in Virginia, only about 1hr away from Elizabeth City. If I wanted to make a visit to their training facility to ask questions and be there in those moments, how do I go about this? I would appreciate the opportunity a lot. Thank you!

Is that right? I don't mind driving-I'm just unsure of their regulations of getting on base and if they allow visitors inside their training facility.

Thanks guys for making this video. It brought me back to a day I was rescued off shore of Key Largo, FL. after getting bent diving a deep wreck called the Northern Light back on Oct.7,2005. I blew off 50 minutes of deco trying to save my best friend who had an O2 seizure. My friend didn't make it but I survived thanks to the local coast guard. So if any of those guys are reading this, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I wouldn't be here writing this if it wasn't for you. Sincerely, Joe A.

Nice that the Coast Guard let you make this video. I worked for NATO Command in Germany reporting to General Alexander M Haig fir 3 years and there is no way he'd allow anyone with a camera in HQ's or speaking to his Staff or in a tank or helicopter. Different times! I was an Investigator and traveled Base to Base throughout Germany and Italy so was pretty busy and stressed. That was 35 years ago. Times have changed and with social media the way it is, cell phones, Instagram, FB and more it appears you can film just about anywhere. It is a way of life these days. Hell, the Kardashians make millions taking photo's of their butts! Vulgar stuff & not too classey!....Times have changed. Little privacy. People just throw it out there. This was an excellent video. Love the quality. Just shocked commander let you inside those offices, helicopter, and training centers. To my boss: RIP General Haig. Thanks for Coast Guard video Steve.....Lt Commander Larry Santos, thank you sir

steveo1kinevo I always wanted to be a pilot and I was thinking of going to Embry riddle when I graduate from high school and I would like to know if you suggest that university to get my private pilots license and I also would like to know if you need to study something specific to be a pilot
@BelowMinimums
@BelowMinimums 7 жыл бұрын
Don't go to Embry Riddle. It's overpriced and the instruction isn't worth what you're going to pay for. To be honest, I don't really suggest going to any of the pilot mill schools (Embry Riddle, ATP etc) but that's what you're deadset on then go with ATP. It's still crazy expensive and overpriced, but not as much as Embry Riddle. I would suggest going to Arizona State University and get their Professional Flight Degree if you want to fly for the airlines straight outta college. Or go to University of North Dakota, or Purdue. Just know that these pilot mill schools teach you how to pass a test and they dont necessarily teach you how to be a good pilot. Expect to pay atleast $80k and not be the best pilot around.

The Coast Guard is probably one of the most underrated and under appreciated of the 5 military services. Because they are not part of the DoD they do not always get the recognition they deserve. These brave men and women are putting their lives on the line on a daily basis and save hundreds of lives every year. Thank you to all of the members of the Coast Guard and thank your Steveo and Flight Chops for your outstanding videos.

Back in the 80"s, I was in the Explorer Scouts. One summer we had a jamboree near Hood Canal, WA. There was an announcement during the jamboree that the Coast Guard was sending a helicopter to allow us to experience being hoisted out of the water in a simulated rescue! Those of us who "signed up" had to demonstrate a 100 yard (each way) swim in the cold Hood Canal salt water before the chopper arrived, which we did with very little hesitation. We were 15-17 year olds, very excited but a bit apprehensive about what to expect. Unfortunately, at the last minute, we were informed that the helicopter had been diverted to an actual emergency and our simulated rescue had to be cancelled! 😖

During my 2 weeks of Active duty training with the Navy Reserve, I was assigned to the Coast Guard in St. Louis back in the 80s. Best group of guys to work with! Caught some kind of sinus cold but still went in to the office. The LCDR OIC came in to work, saw me dieing on station at my desk, and said (ordered me) go back to your hotel room and don't come back til your better! What a great CO! We tease the Coasties, but I would be proud to step up for them anyday! Loved the crewman's "Get to the Choppa" patch! Gotta get one for a friend.

I used to watch that show on the Weather Channel about the Coast Guard, and I also spent a significant portion of my life outside of New London, CT. where we taught PPL Ground School for the Cadets there (optional course). I have the highest respect for those men and women Coasties. Watching both this and Flight Chop's two videos on it, my commendations to both of you. Steveo, you faked the 15 yard underwater, didn't you? :p I am amazed at the CRM, it's far better than anything I've seen elsewhere. I was in the Air Force, but we were flying single seat fighters, so no CRM there, at least with other aircrew members. The Flight Engineer does an amazing job telling the pilot how to fly the helicopter. Anyway, thanks to you and Flight Chops for such an amazing set of videos, and to Brock, as well, for his spectacular in-water footage.
