First volcano I thought of was Mount St Helens. Puyallup immediately brought Washington State to mind, though.

First thought of Mount St. Helens, but after it’s top blew off I knew it wasn’t tall enough to fit the clue and (literally) guessed correctly.

Mt st helens was never tall enough. Wish he'd said the puyallup name though. I only know the more general term, tahoba, which means mountain. I believe it's what the city of tacoma got is name from, since the have such a great view of the mountain

I didn't think about Mt. St Helen's at all. I thought it was shorter than 14,000 feet. I went too far south on my guess. I went with Mt. Shasta. I knew that the volcano was over 14,000 feet at the summit. I thought it was closer to 14,400 feet, but I was wrong. The water part of the clue got me thinking of a beverage company. That is why I guess the way I did on the clue.

The word təqʷubəʔ means "snow-covered mountain".[12][13] təqʷubəʔ has been anglicized in many ways, including 'Tacoma', 'Tahoma', and 'Tacobet'.[14]@@Lalupin464
@seikibrian8641
@seikibrian8641 13 күн бұрын
@Lalupin464 No, like the clue says, there is a Puyallup name that means "bringer of water." But Tahoma is not a Puyallup name; it is an anglization of the Lushootseed təqʷubəʔ -- which means "the mountain" or "snow-covered mountain."
@Lalupin464
@Lalupin464 10 күн бұрын
@@seikibrian8641 Puyallup is a dialect of Lushootseed. The origin of “snow covered mountain” is a theory by William Bright, a white linguist. According to actual Lushootseed speakers, təqʷubəʔ and other variations either means “mother of waters” or “don’t forget the water.” I speak a related Coast Salish language, and “qʷúʔ” by itself means water.

Fun fact: The last time the name Rainier came up was in the first semifinal game of the first Wildcard Tournament. The question was: Before his death in 2005, he said he was "probably the last head of state to be able to recognize all his compatriots in the street".
