Lol, the only time I was issued 782 gear was my year on Okinawa. At Camp Lejeune the only time we got 782 gear from battalion supply was during rifle qualification which coincided with our field training month. Then again we worked for the base general and our orders were non-deployable. MP Co, HqSpt BN, MCB Camp Lejeune. USMC 1994-1998

Daniel Sayers Jesus. 782 gear in the 90s?! I'm so sorry 😂 thank you for your service.
@tbob82126 жыл бұрын
Wartime Productions Thanks, my service was peacetime though ☺ The USMC doesn't use NAVMC 782 Form anymore? We were still issued canvas shelter halves, those down sleeping bags, Gumby Suits for wet weather (some guys bought their own Goretex). Like I said we were non-deployable working for the base commander, usually a general. So we didn't rate the latest gear back then 😃
@chuckr99386 жыл бұрын
I was in 95-99 and did deploy (west pac) and for the most part all of the crap you were issued was the latest gear. When I checked into my unit the one piece of gear I was issued that was new and modern was the sleeping system, two mummy bags and a gortex bivey sack. Then when I was on MEU we were issued vector packs (a bit bigger and an internal frame) instead of Alice packs and a North Face tent. Other than that Vietnam cold war era junk is what we took. Its nice to see they issue decent serviceable equipment these days. I guess that's what fighting two wars for over a decade will get you.

@marinedog19874 жыл бұрын
Been 8 years since I’ve got out, you have the same gear I was issued at CIF (except now you get the FILBE main pack). During my 5 years I saw a huge transition in gear from 2006 to 2011. Went from OIF tri color woodland vest, LBV, and alligator clip equipment/alice packs to what you have now. Much better equipment. One piece of advice I’d tell all Marines is to NOT machine wash your gortex top and bottoms, they lose their waterproof ability, a scuz brush with water and soap is best. The most worthless piece of gear we got issued that people lost was those stupid k-bar adapters.
@richardbarrett63676 жыл бұрын
The only thing I recognised in all this gear was the 782 canteen....ex WW2, Korean War S/Sgt.

I wish surplus gear was easier to find. The gear is well priced and the gear is rugged. Buying the equivalent of an Alice pack and frame is 2 -3x the cost commercially.

lets be honest US marines look their best in MARPAT-D and I'm not even American shame they got rid of wearing them in the summer
@dylanrutan1005 жыл бұрын
Tom Brigden in 29 palms the marines (because they’re training the Mohave desert) still wear the desert marpats. No where else does it make sense to wear deserts in the summer time (because none of the other major installations are in the middle of the desert). However, the desert uniform is thinner and breaths more easily than the woodlands. The marine corps is also testing woodland jungle uniforms that dry faster and breath easier than the standard woodlands.

May I ask a question, I actually don't know much about the military, so, out of kit interest, does the USMC or other Branches, get issued watches? Thank you. Warm regards, DP
@pogmarinefps6 жыл бұрын
Not that I know of... I am sure if it is needed they will get it for the troops. Got issued a Gerber once cause we needed them when working on the range. If you are looking for all around good watch a lot of Marines and other service members wear the GShock watches. I still got a pocket watch cause I don't like big things on my wrists. Hope this helps.

Speaking of KABARs, do marines usually carry them , is it allowed or required, are they issued or does a marine buy his own ? I was Navy surface fleet , and we were allowed to carry folding knives the we purchased ourselves. Fixed blades weren't allowed , but the command usually overlooked small fixed blades of about three inches or under . The issue fixed blade dive knives were for divers and rescue swimmers. SEMPER FI !
@dylanrutan1005 жыл бұрын
Victor Waddell No we are not issued fixed blades during field training events. The problem is that any type of weapons or related accessory is considered SL3 (stock list 3) and is issued by the armory. As an infantry marine in a rifle company, the armory keeps M9 bayonets that can be affixed to an M4 service carbine. However, we so rarely do bayonet training that there’s little value in forcing them to issue it to us (as that would cause the armory more time to associate the rack number of the bayonet to the rifle) and making us grunts carry more weight. Down range infantry marines are issued bayonets though. I also keep a gerber coyote brown partially serrated strong arm fixed blade molled to my plate carrier, which I only carry in the field. I also keep a gerber multitool w/ c4 spike on my patrol belt at all times, and SOG trident which my father acquired me when I was 12 that stays on my person.

Thanks for the reply. I will say two things have improved since my time, First Aid kits and 782 gear. I was in during the transition to ALICE packs and I thought they were almost no improvement over the old 1941 pack system. You could carry more stuff but the ALICE gear seemed cheap to me. Also the newer ponchos weren't as good as the old rubberized cloth ones, however they would both keep you wet. Your Gas Mask seems to be a real improvement. The M17 masks sucked.

What can marines wear off base?
@pogmarinefps6 жыл бұрын
In MCO 1020.34G summarized .Marine Corps Orders can be changed by unit as well. But.. This is pretty much what an ordinary Marines are authorized to wear. Civilian attire similar to Charlie uniform. Which summed up is belt, when there are belt loops present, no plan white shirts no od green shirts (in civilian attire), no uniform items unless it is USMC sweat top, boots, and running top. When in Cammies (Utility uniform/ Marpat Camo). Can not be worn off base. Only going to and from work. NO stopping for gas, no getting out of the car for any reason other than an emergency. For uniforms can not wear dress blue alphas, can not wear desert utilities, woodland utilities. All other uniforms are authorized but it goes on and on... Left out a lot more but that sums up the majority of it.
