www.gobeyondthebrochure.com/5-... - You must stay on track to graduate in eight semesters. It’s somewhere between a good idea and a rapidly fading dream at most schools, but you must graduate from the Naval Academy in eight semesters unless you are a very exceptional case. If you fail or incomplete a class that is a prerequisite for another series of classes that you can’t complete within four years, you’re either going to mandatory summer school or in danger of being summarily booted.

Time flies. Some of these pictures are of my class. The Academy is only a stepping stone to a career that will involve so many different experiences when you hit the fleet. So many things happen after you hit the fleet that make it seem so long ago, yet, at the same time many vivid memories of it make it seem like it was yesterday.

Professor Emeritus, here. You think we don't do research--but let me assure you that USNA has generously supported faculty research for decades. You see the result via the classroom because USNA teachers as a rule make it work that way: the Mids come first. What we learn, we share. Often mids collaborate with us in our research. There's a reason USNA is ranked with the very best four-year colleges.

One thing I can tell every one who has been appointed to USNA -- no matter how ready you believe you are for what lies ahead -- YOU AREN'T!! Don't let that discourage you. Plebe Summer will challenge you in ways you cannot currently imagine. The Brigade's return will will challenge you in different ways -- and for much longer. When Plebe Year is over -- then you'll (probably) be ready.

@Jcream101 It's a good idea to have a Plan B. A good way to make Plan B work for you -- if it's needed -- is to also apply for an NROTC scholarship so your year at your Plan B College will expose you to some of -- albeit not a great deal of -- what you'll experience during Plebe Year. Take an academic load that approximates a Plebe's. Tell your PNS that you're going to re-apply to USNA. And be the best NROTC Mid you can be.

Would be interesting to know what kind of failure rate the Academy would have considering that those who go there are some of the country's best and brightest and that it wouldn't be easy to get accepted into.

It depends. You start out with 1500 plebes and usually between 850-1000 graduate. The most I ever heard of was 1300 and that was during WWII.

@@SaltiDawg2008 I'm a proud member of the Class of 1957, Some of my I-Day classmates bilged because there was a particular Plebe course (or two) "they just didn't get." Others left because it wasn't what they expected it to be. Some bilged because they couldn't handle the 24/7/365 discipline. Threre are lots of reasons why dropouts occur ... but I believe the vast majority of them occurred -- and still do -- during Plebe Year -- which is as it should be.

If YOU want to be there and want to serve, you will graduate. If you're doing it for someone else or for something you don't believe in . . . you're done.

Luke Boone hey man congrats on getting in! I was wondering what kind of sports you did in HS. I’m currently a junior but I’m afraid it’s too late for me :/ I make great grades and I do extra curricular things including stuff with JROTC, interact club, church etc. but I’m not sure if I should do sports next year. My school doesn’t have all the sports of other HS so I never really thought about it. I REALLY want to go after being exposed to the different academies but I’m afraid that I didn’t know early enough to do sports all throughout high school. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I was watching 2015 ship selection ceremony, and I realized most of the graduates are female. Like 60-70%. Is there a particular reason why? . Are males not physically or mentally tough enough? Or is this course more about leadership, management and technical training?

The Company Officer worked 8 to 5, daily, and seldom interfaced with you - that was the job of the 1st Classmen. The Company Officer handled administrative responsibilities within the company and battalion. My Company Officer left us alone. Had a classmate for four years who thought his shit didn't stink and let us all know it. He graduated low in our class but not the anchorman and somehow got to flight school and was killed two years later while showboating. None of us went to his funeral - on purpose. legacy classmates were dangerous because their relatives who attended Annapolis tipped them off to everything they needed to know to get by and keep the upperclassmen off their backs. These jokers eventually made bad officers because you can't teach deportment, you learn it.
