A U.S. Supreme Court decision has the potential to change how local and state governments address the homelessness crisis.
Currently, a federal court decision bans western states from fining or arresting people for sleeping or camping on public property.
A case before the Supreme Court challenges that ban, and the decision could come as soon as Thursday.

Fining people for being homeless is absurd, but I would not be surprised if this Supreme Court rules this way. I know many people are concerned about homelessness - or more specifically with the problems caused by the homeless. But the solution is not to force the homeless out. A better solution would be to find a place where housing can be provided while also providing needed services. Something like a closed shopping mall would be a great idea. It would be easy to set up medical offices, as well as offices to provide other services. The food courts could easily be repurposed to serve meals. And the empty stores could easily have walls added to create private 'apartments'. As far as it goes, they could expand the existing restrooms to provide common restrooms and showers rather than having to add pluming to individual quarters. This tackles numerous problems all at one time.

If people would follow the money they would see that 1. The affordable housing contractors, 2.The Wall Street trend of buying up residential homes for investor landlords, and 3. The non-for-profit contractors that act as hubs for profitable vendors that are paid for by taxpayer dollars are creating the homeless crisis. Once they criminalize homelessness, Wall Street landlords can charge whatever they want! After Occupy Wall street, the news media blamed it on the homeless and started the hate mongering by the public. The homeless crisis started when municipalities enacted the urban camping ban and removed all resources for homeless people to get off the street and become self-sufficient such as job programs, medical care, bathrooms and showers, and storage which is necessary for people to work and go to medical appointments. Now the plan is just to have the taxpayers pay for apartments for everyone and keep them in the system year after year. Affordable housing contractors get paid 3 to 4 times the amount of building the same building if it wasn't affordable housing. Huge non for profits are buying up apartment complexes and assisted living facilities to convert into homeless housing units. It's big money but the news doesn't talk about the $3,000 a month religions and non-for-profits get paid to house a person. The news reinforces The public's false conjecture that they see when they're driving down the street and that has kept the homeless crisis perpetuated.

Once being unable to afford rent is criminalized then the Wall Street landlords will be able to charge whatever they want.

The Court needs to start fining people for supporting their children that are adults and out of school living at home. Hypocrisy at it's worst!

This is the dumbest thing I've heard. Ok... maybe not the dumbest. But this amounts to so many civil rights violations. It's basically taking away the rights of Americans to be in public. And to impose fines and create criminal records does the exact opposite of helping people off the streets.

Homeless citizens should be able to go where they want and do what they want to do -- so long as they obey all LAWS and ORDINANCES -- period! There should not even be a Federal Government involvement, which is why we have a 10th Amendment to the Constitution.

Rebuild the internment caps they built in WW2 and send them there. If it was good enough to house the Japanese, it's good enough to house the homeless.

Apparently you never experienced being homeless but in short, that would lead to a huge disaster💯...think prison but without officers. They need to stop handing out methadone and suboxone for starts, look up what that costs alone. The whole shelter system is rigged to only help those on SSI and Veterans, the rest have to jump through rings every single day just to keep a bunk for the next night... Let the addicts dry up, fix the shelter policies and a lot more homeless would be off the street AND be able to seek employment. Kinda hard to show up to an interview when you have to bring everything you have with you or risk losing it, which is more often the case....but it's all smoke and mirrors anyway and the smokes gone, mirrors are cracked and by the end of the year this place is gonna be worse than the Great Depression so who cares💯

Most homeless people choose to be homeless. I've talked to over 50 homeless. People that have chosen to be homeless. Most just don't wanna get off drugs or stop drinking alcohol to get help

That's a crock of BS to say that you talked to 50 people and therefore all homeless people choose to be homeless! What a hateful and disgusting and deplorable thing to say about people who are out here barely surviving begging to get off the street!! Unfortunately people in this country don't want to look at facts and data which show that what you just said is completely untrue!! I don't know what happened in your life to be such a cold-hearted propaganda spreader, but why don't you work on yourself and leave the people who are being used to create a profit for huge corporations alone?
