I can never for the life of me forget the 12 yr old kid who played to a small group of conservative seniors- mostly retired Brahmins in Bombay in 1981- it was as though the auditorium was being struck my streaks of musical lightning.. witnessing the little boy hold what to us seemed a guitar.. with the light shining off of the frets of his instrument blazing out complex notes of Carnatic classical music...the seniors didn't know where to look.. for me many rock legends who I had been idolizing vaporized into nothingness...and finally after the concert I remember the prodigy withdraw into the arms of his father when there was a surge of people rushing forward to take a closer look at him...it was truly a life experience...from then on I have rarely missed any of his shows..alas alas ..he is gone..and that too so early!

I was blessed to attend his very first concert in besant nagar organized by sri TVG, one half mandolin and the next was kadri gopalnath on the sax. Two masters of carnatic music on western instruments. Little srinivas was about 8 or so. Tiny, skinny little boy, he was touching the feet of shri tvg and other elders. Noone knew about him. Then he started playing. OH MY GOD. everyone was stunned speechless.

The master... So sad that you are gone, but I cherish the memory of listening to you in a school auditorium in NJ a few years before your passing. The music you played with your brother and the two local percussion masters was beautiful beyond words. You were so generous that day and played audience requests for hours and hours. Thank you for your music. You are sorely missed.

This feels like a lost shakti album (not to discredit srini and his genuis but it's in the same vein with many of the same musicians) I cant believe this is the only place I can find it online. Will probably overpay $50 for the cd on Amazon so i can have the high quality files. Seriously one of my favorite albums of all time. Thank you so much for posting

One of U Shrinivas' greatest albums. Rest in Peace. Still waiting for him to be reincarnated into someone who can match his skills.
@dheerajbw5 жыл бұрын
Indeed Utsav, even the maestro himself loved it the most. I don't believe in reincarnations, but if that happens to be true, I doubt that he'll be challenged. Some talents are so great in my opinion that they might never be matched or surpassed, just like Mozart's or Chopin's genius in composition, or Harnoncourt's brilliance in conducting for that matter. Have a nice day Utsav, and stay tuned.

It was the month of July in Mumbai, the weather was beautiful as it might rain any moment, I was on the highway traveling via rickshaw, the cold breeze just hugging me, and you have this song playing in the background as the perfect backdrop and you look out to the beautiful Mumbai. What a moment. What lovely fusion to compliment the city, and you cannot help but smile for being present, for this gem of a song, for Mumbai ❤️

John McLaughlin's solo in From Folktales(47:46) is a study in fusion guitar work. He outlines CHarukesi without compromising on his jazz roots.

How to define the quality of "Wildfires" (34:18 - 41:17)? Certain things can only be experienced; they just can't be described in words. Oh languages, what a shortage of expression/vocabulary you suffer from?
