This video is in the originally color, LOL. Color had been around about 25 years by that time. So many amazing U2 songs and live performances to react to. They are the best live rock band still performing today. Some options: "U2 - All I Want Is You / Where the Streets Have No Name" (Live version posted by "Larissa Ononfre" will never get blocked & is best) or you can do the Where the Streets version live from Slane Castle 2001; "U2 -Love is Blindness & I Can't Help Falling in Love" (Zoo TV Live From Syndey)"; and Bullet the Blue Sky live from the Rattle and Hum tour. So many more epic tracks, but that's a good start.

Maybe it's the camera quality then, cause the colors just seemed so off. That's true though, I keep forgetting that Black and White has been out for several decades, thanks for reminding me 😂 I'll definitely be reacting to more U2 in the future, alongside the other Classic Rock bands (+ other genres sometimes). Thanks for tuning in!

Would also include "running to a standstill/streets have no name " from zoo tv live from sydney.

A few things to note: Back then, everything was still wired. There were no in-ear monitors yet. The stage was REALLY high. Look how he had to climb a ladder to get back up. When Bono jumps down from the stage 1) It is a long way down. 2) The band cannot see or hear what is happening. This was spontaneous, so they dont know if they should keep going or not. If you know that you are going to jam, you can be more free to let loose. In this moment the band is internally, in panic

Wow, that's so interesting. So that's why I picked up on the fact that the guitarist was playing the melody on loop until he got back up. Thanks for your insight my friend 😄

Thank you Finally , a reaction to the 2 and best live performance at live Aid, 6 hours before Queen too the stage. 11 am, Wembley Stadium, from a band with a small following in Europe, and a very few people in the States.....after this performance U2 was Worldwide!

That's so fascinating! The first time I ever heard of U2 was when they released their album for free on Apple, and it was loaded onto everyone's devices. It caused controversy, so I never ended up listening to their music much, but I've been missing out!

This is Live Aid, at Wembley Stadium in London, a charity concert for Africa Famine Relief. It was shot in color and broadcast live on MTV and several other channels in the US.

This was in Wembley Stadium, London, UK while simultaneously playing remotely to JFK stadium in Philly, PA, USA. This concert was in both locations on the same day. It was a huge event. You should check out some of the other performences. Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger AND Tina Turner, Bowie, Judas Priest, Madonna, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, and of course, Queen. Oh, and Phil Collins played at Wembley and jumped on a plane to perform again the same day at JFK stadium at a untuned piano. What a concert! That's just off the top of my head.

@@DanCanReact I agree. I grew up in the '80s. I was more a rock fan than pop or dance music. I didn't wear 20 black rubber bracelets like Madonna fans, but I have to admit she was just starting out and her performance was well above par. It's a must see for pop fans and well worth a look for any music fan - FYI. It was the surprise performance. Also, Phil Collins was the only performer to play on both continents. He played in Wembley in the UK, jumped on a plane and played JFK in the US. I'll warn you that he had difficulty finding a piano that was still in tune in Philly, but he was phenomenal anyway. Enjoy!

This was a pivotal moment in U2’s career. They’d released 4 albums up to this point and were gaining in popularity, but this performance helped catapult them into stardom. They followed 2 years later with the 1987 album The Joshua Tree, which catapulted them into super-superstardom. They’ve arguably remained the biggest live act on the planet to this day.

I remember seeing this live on TV. It was my first time seeing U2 and it stunned me. To that point, I didn't have a clue what rock music could be. This blew the doors open. And for context, U2 came on before Queen's incredible performance. U2 charge up the crowd for what came next.

I think your next U2 reaction should be "Love is Blindness" live from Sydney 1993 Ps. Dont get distracted by what Bono is wearing. He had an alter ego for that tour called Mister Macphisto. That is a WHOLE other story. Listen to the Guitar SoloS. Yes there are 2 guitar solos in this song and they are godly! Here is the link m.kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a89gi8R-v9Cdo40.html

If you had fun, you should also listen to the first profound song Sunday, Bloody Sunday, because each group had a 15 minute performance at this Live Aid/Wembley charity concert in 1985. But if you are interested in U2's roots, choose Sunday, Bloody Sunday by Red Rocks 1983, such a legendary concert in a Colorado amphitheater, so energetic, passionate+post-punk. P.S. Bono saw a girl who was almost crushed by the mass, which is why the security guards were called in. Years later, the lady thanked her again in the media. At the end there is a snipset of Rolling Stones songs and Luo Reed (at the beginning of the song Satellite OF Love + at the end of the song Walk On The Wide Side).

Sorry for the late response. I've been sick for a week and a half, so I was taking a little break from KZfaq. I wanted to thank you for the suggestions, and I'll definitely take them into note for future videos! Also, I find that super interesting, what you said about Bono seeing someone almost being crushed, so he called security to help. That's way more than what Travis Scott did when his overcrowded show got rowdy (that's a story for another day...)

Bono jumped off the stage to save that girl. She was being crushed by the crowd. He pretty much saved her life.

Always down for a U2 newbie and I love/hate the velcro cap strap. I mean I get how it's more customizable but it also is prone to be non-symmetric. I would say that this was U2's first big introduction to the world, given the venue and audience. They were however building up their rep on college and independent radio back when radio was a thing before streaming services. Queen won the day of course but this band got people loose and moving and you love to see it when 60k-100k people can be on the same page. The difference in their sound from their first couple of albums, which I would describe as stark and spartan yet still gorgeous, like a rock Gregorian chant, to War ("Surrender" is a standout production-wise), to all of Live at Red Rocks to much of the grandiosity of The Unforgettable Fire to the sea change Americana influence of The Joshua Tree to the live licks of Rattle and Hum (and accompanying film) to the absolute switch-up to Euro dance and techno influences in Achtung Baby and especially Zooropa (which is such a lush soundscape) is to me a surprising growth and development changeup for what would have been considered a beer bar four piece outfit in 1981. And then on to the Vegas Sphere. What I'm trying to say is that like David Bowie, they made the effort to keep changing with the times and I think it's very difficult to do even that, and doing it effectively is really worth people's attention.

That's fine, I mostly just wear the cap as a way to stop my hair from getting in my face (it's extremely long). But yeah, everyone keeps saying THIS SHOW MADE U2 an international hit, and I could see why. Their performance was electric. But yeah, I have yet to see their other work and how they evolved, but I'm looking forward to it. Thanks for your comment!

Hey, great vid and welcome to U2-ville. The "U2- All I Want is You/Where the Streets Have No Name" live from Slane Castle is a great one to check out. This band has dozens of great hits. If you did one U2 per month, it would take you years to cover them all.

I cannot say for sure about why the up-beat tune on a track with a sad back-story. My guess is that Bono is thinking about a conversation with his friend, and wanting to keep it up beat and up-lifting to celebrate his life rather than his death. In the early 90s, Bono has some interviews about intentionally masking the meaning of some songs. Generally, those are more political in nature, and I think that was more to just get out an enjoyable song for everyone, while still speaking to his heart in the song without being so in-your-face with a political message.

First of all, thanks for watching a large portion of the video. The commentary is after my reaction, so I appreciate you sticking around 😁 And I like your interpretation of the upbeat vibes U2 has portrayed in the songs I've listened to. It makes sense that he'd want to celebrate his life rather than sulk in sadness, cause it feels much better to do things in a positive way. I do think the way U2 puts out their messages is very digestible. You can listen to this song and vibe out, but if you go deeper and listen to the lyrics, it's very meaningful. Thanks for your perspective!
