Thanx to this song (and a HUGE crush on Bono) when I was 13 I learned about Martin Luther King. Nobody at school ever taught me about him. I'll always love U2

Cir Cir I think it’s a shame you weren’t taught about Brother King. I think his teachings and life shouldnb taught in history class or social studies.

@@garywilson3042 True! Anyway when I was at school (80/90) history classes reached WWII and focused on that, given how my country (Italy) was very deeply involved. It's still good that we have many forms of art to learn about a lot of other things.

Let this sink in.....at time of recording this song they were 24 Larry was 23....yet this album "unforgettable fire" a masterpiece was already their 4th studio album......they were just kids....... incredible! U2 are the most accomplished band in history and were consistently the biggest band in the world for 2 decades!

3 from Dublin,Adam (bass player) was actually born in England but moved to Ireland at a young age.Larry Mullen Jr (drummer) put a notice up on the notice board at school looking for band members.The Edge was named after a key cutting shop and Bono was named after a hearing aid shop which was called Bono Vox

hi sassy: love U2...bono...have their c d. still live in ireland. trump could not get any one for his presidential party but U 2 was at obamas love obama...i was thinking about bono dancing with the girl at live aid & your bro in law started talking about it. i wonder if that is the first time he did it because he goes down several steps & they end & 2 men helped him down & the men did not know what to do & he danced with a girl, rest of the band acted as if they did not know what to do & by the time he got back on stage the song was about over. in name of love? U 2? did not register with me but as soon as i heard the first few notes i knew. thanks sassy, betty

Regarding the Pretenders, they were formed in England but Chrissie was born in Akron, Ohio in 1951 and moved to London in 1973.

Ireland is not part of the UK; it is a Free State except for 6 counties in the North, which are part of the UK. So he was correct. Ireland is its own Free country.

Actually only Bono and Larry were born in Ireland, Adam was born in England and The Edge in Wales, but both moved to Dublin when they were very young

Y’all I do know that this song is about Dr. Martin Luther King, and the song “ bloody Sunday “is about the Montgomery march across the bridge in Macgomery Alabama

Lance Brassette "Pride" is indeed about Dr. King but "Sunday Bloody Sunday" is about the events in Derry Northern Ireland on January 30th 1972 when British soldiers killed 26 civilians who were protesting the new law of internment without trial. I was 10 I remember that day very clearly.

Yeah Isabel, That's my understanding of Sunday Bloody Sunday also. Although the events at Edmund Pettis brridge are also known as Bloody Sunday.

Yup, MLK is verbally noted but from many of thier songs "Love" is a metaphor for Jesus or God. Note the different incidents pointed out in the name of "Love." One man caught on a Barbed Wire Fence, One Man he Resist in lieu of Slavery. Washed on an empty beach: Soldiers who died before reaching shore. Betrayed with a kiss. "Jesus" Being betrayed by Judah. He keeps pointing out that these incidents happening in Gods name & questions why it continues.

Oh, U2. Yes, they were big back then, and they had much airplay. And yes, the guitar sounded good, and his voice is also not bad. I always thought, they were a bit... cheesy? overdone? I don't know. Strange, I never thought about to reassess that judgement. Bono was also a political activist for many topics. And yes the Pretenders were great! I really loved them, especially Chrissie Hynde. She was so cool. Songs: Brass in Pocket, Stop your Sobbing, Don't get me Wrong
