This song, and The FLy...I would listen to those two songs often back to back, dozens and dozens of times. The whole album, I'd listen to over and over when it first came out. For years, I had no idea what the Fly was about really, but I was sure UTEOTW, was about staying together, making promises as a couple, and things going wrong...whatever....then I went on a website about U2 lyrics, and was astonished at its true source of inspiration and meaning. Same thing happened again with Moment of Surrender. As it is with some others here I'm sure, at the lowest points of my life, this group has been there to keep me going through the worse of what we call life. Happy New Year to all my fellow Fans!!

This video is fantastic, you nailed it, especially the end, bringing ol bozo right to the front, and he brings it home alright. One of those singers who has always been every bit as good live, and quite often better. And its rare to get so much quality vedge time as well, he is crushing it

Edge at the top of his game. 😮
@marshallross33738 ай бұрын
Ya, The Edge is the real genius of U2. They're all talented, but The Edge's guitar playing is the orchestra/wall of sound. Larry and Adam lay down the groove in a solid and tasteful manner. Bono brings that unique voice and stage presence which are undeniable, but The Edge is the mastermind of sound with his clever use of delay and wide range of guitar tones. I know there's a second guitarist under the stage and someone's operating the synth/sequencer at times, too. But, the one guy who's essential to the success of U2 musically, imho, is The Edge.

Top of his game??! I guess the 80's and early 90's were just a build up to this?

The Edge is the heart of U2, and U2's temporary drummer Bram van den Berg is very great.

They were off on their timing on this night. The burning flag is supposed to start later in the song.
@curadhanpowell50078 ай бұрын
The performance was slowed down a lot more here for the Paint It Black snippet so that the awesome flaming flag came in way before The Edge's epic outro. hahahaha Still cool but it loses a lot of the impact of how it was at my 10/25 show.

Wow, they pretty much lost it after Achtung Baby, but the past few years they've taken down quite a few more notches. They always said they'd quit before they'd be a crap band but that should have happened near 3 decades ago. This is just sad to see them like this.

With regard to self-preservation, they should have ended regular touring after 360 and never taken Guy Oseary as their new manager (the Live Nation contract was also questionable at best). They still had great, unique performances in them until then. The albums, even the more conceptual NLOTH, had something to offer artistically. Now they fully cash in on the nostalgia. Not just some looks back, but living in their own shadow (perhaps lost in it as well).
