Subtle but huge difference! Just slightly opens up a bit more. Has more of a polished sound IMO.

I thought the same when I was messing with it. Also was trying it out in luna and I was thinking about how I wish other DAWs loaded it up as a channel strip in the mixer, lol.

Nice Video!!! thanks for the comparison :D for future comparisons you can put one plugin on Insert A and the other in insert F in pro tools, you can then switch between them using Shift+2 (bypasses plugins in inserts A-E) and Shift+3 (bypasses plugins in inserts F-J)! By using the commands at the same time you can compare them instantly without using the mouse

I for one REALLY wanna see what you do with LUNA and the full Vision Console. I'm still waiting for your take on LUNA period with all the other stuff, though as I see you as a Mix Engineer Master, and that as a Recording System or whatever they call it as opposed to a DAW, still your sense of how it gets you're trying to go will be invaluable. Thanks Mike!

You should watch the video with Jaquire King, where he's doing a live Recording session using Luna and this API strip in the build in console section.

@@bo3751 Thanks. Yup, its cued up. Tried to watch live but had stuff to do. Let me just say that, Jacquire is UA's Guy though, he's deeply invested (biased). Mike is A UA Guy (and possibly a bit biased), but I trust Mike's ears and advice almost completely. Everything he's taught me over the years, pans out when I try it myself. Not to sound too much like a groupie, but I follow a Lot of different people and sources, Jacquire King included he's great. But Michael White is by far the most invaluable source of anything out there I know of. And I'm subscribed to a lot. FWIW, I've been doing this on some level for over thirty years. Mike is generating a body of knowledge, methods and practices, structure, "how-to" as well as "why-to", a methodical approach devoid of "magic" and "tricks" and "secrets" that you find everywhere else. Kids will be watching his stuff after we're all long gone and laptops can process Algorithms and Convolutions of every piece of equipment ever soldered into circuits. The tools will be virtually free, but the skills will always require training, practice, and experience. Sorry for rambling on, but there's a difference to me at least, between Universal Audio getting Jacquire King an absolutely legit mix engineer, to "present" thier latest tool (/product) to the world, and Michael White, another absolutely legit mix engineer, but not being employed UA (AFAIK) giving us his take on this new system, how it sounds, how it works, what he likes dislikes about it, etc. Anyhow, thank you. I absolutely will be watching JK as soon as I can.

Thank you for the videos (feature & audio), it's much appreciated. I've been wondering if I should upgrade (I already owned the "legacy"). I did a lot of reading and was leaning toward not buying. You sold me... I'm not buying. I don't use the API stuff for mixing, only for recording via unison recording (I have some tube and Neve style pres, but don't own an API style and think they are awesome on electric guitar, especially high gain). I do like mixing with API style channel strips, but I already have the PA/Lindell 50 stuff and I would rather use that. If I was buying now, I might consider just the pre plugin, but it's too late for that and it doesn't seem worth paying money for it, especially if I could save that money and eventually support a hardware company and by a Revive or WA API style pre.

As tempting as it is to add to my already unreasonable plugin collection, I'm happy with the Lindell 50 when I'm in Pro Tools. It's really more about recording and, given I'm already on an x8p, it's a unison plugin or hardware for me at this point.

The difference was huge. I’m not sure why, but the legacy mix was brilliantly balanced, quite a knockout in fact. The new plug-in version sounds ragged and unbalanced by comparison. Excellent demo!

There is a test done where the two units null, so they are supposed to sound exactly the same, granted the settings are not identical here, more as close as they can be, the new api desk sounds amazing, just seems a bit clearer and puncher, yet smoother and more open at the same time. Both sound v good, vs other companies that model API, that compared to these, don't come close.

Can someone share their experience with this Strip? I want to buy a channel strip but have no idea which one: SSL 4000 or the API. Both are the same price. But what would be the best fit for multiple music genres?

Ssl sound is little bit more subtle by it’s colouring, api gives you modern focused mid range little more) have you bought some of that finally? Your thoughts?)

What's everyone's opinion on this vs Lindell 50, and Softube American Class A?

Good question. I love the Lindell 50. But I can't compare it.

I'm in the same boat. I don't have a Console 1, so the American Class A isn't an option for me. I am really happy mixing with the Lindell 50 though. Mike's got videos on the Lindell stuff too if you want a similar overview for that before making up your mind.
@nichttuntun3364

@@acmeyakko the American class A can be used native without the console 1. It's a great sounding channel strip. I own it and it works great and sounds very good. But I didn't compare it side by side to the Lindell 50. I just use the Lindell as there isn't anything to desire from it in my case and it has a few more cool features and it got the TMT and that's a huge feature I never want to miss in a channel strip (I use them on each channel) again. That's a winner. Beside that the Lindell comes along with a superb group (stem) channel summoning tool, which makes a great difference also :)

@@nichttuntun3364 I prefer the UA over the Lindell. Plus if you have ua preamps you can use this on the unison for recording. Have only briefly demoed the Softube so can't comment to much on that. The console 1 workflow though is awesome so on that front its more handy. But as someone mentioned the American class A is also standalone. Little I heard of the Softube I would say initial thoughts I would pick Lindell over that but as said number 1 for me is UA.
