This video is about sharing our experience and complete details of Dubai to Qatar Road Trip including timelines, costs, border crossing and visa requirements.
Doha is the capital city of Qatar located at Persian Gulf with a population of 1.2M people, overall Qatar population is 2.7M. Its a small sized country with total area of 4500 square miles.
Qatar came into limelight after they were awarded the hosting rights of FIFA world cup in December 2010 after which there was massive infrastructure development with in span of 12 years until FIFA World Cup in 2022.
Coming back to our trip, it will be a 7 hours drive covering 700km distance. Roads a well maintained throughout, gas stations are available at regular intervals, however there are not many good breakfast and fast food options after Abu Dhabi City.
In terms of speed limit, Dubai high ways are capped at maximum speed limit of 130 km/h which increases to 140 km/h in Abu Dhabi and increases further to 160 km/h on Abu Dhabi to Saudi highway.
There is no direct border of Qatar with UAE, therefore we have to pass through Saudi Arabia.
First Border is Al Ghuwaifat for entry to / exit from UAE. There is an exit fee charged by UAE border immigration of 30 AED per person. After exit there is 5km of transit area until Saudi Al Batha Border where you need to Saudi Visa for entry.
Saudi 1 year multiple entry tourist visa can be easily obtained online after creating profile and filling up required forms.

Biometrics are required for first time entry else you can easily pass through Saudi border immigration without getting out of the vehicle.
Vehicle insurance is required to be purchased at the border.
Saudi Border is approximately 470km from Dubai which means more than 60% distance is covered within UAE.
There is further 150km drive until Abu Samra border of Saudi which is roughly 1.5 hours drive from Al Batha border via Saudi to Qatar transit road. Its a two lanes road mostly used by Trucks, speed limit is 120km/h and not many good quality gas station stop overs on this road.
After reaching Abu Samra we have to go through the exit procedures of immigration as we leave Saudi Arabi followed by few Km drive until Salwa border of Qatar.
Qatar Visa is easily available on arrival, pre-registration on Hayya portal is advised to save time at the border. Also visa is free of cost of hotel is booked through Discover Qatar website

otherwise there is a visa fee of 100 Qatari Riyal per person.
Doha is only 95km from Salwa border and takes less than an hour to reach with roads speed limit of 120 km/h
