9th song from the flawless album "Águas da Amazônia" composed by Philip Glass and performed by Uakti. I do not own the copyright of this music.

Philip Glass is the master of minimalism. No other minimalist composer has moved me like Philip Glass has. Thanks for posting!

My wife & I also heard this for the first time at a Grupo Corpo concert--wonderful music plus wonderful dance. Makes other modern dance companies seem joyless by comparison. I'll add that Uakti's Aguas Amazonas is my favorite way to introduce people to minimalist music. Even folks who don't cotton to Glass et al normally (such as my wife) absolutely love this CD and play it over & over without ever getting tired of it. Great for both foreground music AND ambient listening.

Technically, the gradual addition of new textures over repetition of the previous material is what makes it minimalism.

I continue to enjoy Philip Glass compositions whatever his style is called. To me it's Cosmic.

The grouping is 4+3+4+2+2 or 1234-123-1234-12-12. We play it as a warm up in my percussion class.

One of my favorites. I saw Grupo Corpo do an incredible dance piece to this music. It just inspires movement, doesn't it?

I believe that Philip Glass has more or less given up on the "minimalist" label as no longer characterizing his work these days. But I still hear some echoes of the minimalist idiom ..."Minimalism ... in which the simplest and fewest elements are used to create the maximum effect."
@SnazzyMax7 жыл бұрын
this sounds like the same composition as the one he used in echorus with allen ginsberg.

Would this be considered 15/16?
@dadai81377 жыл бұрын
No, it would be 15/8 because it's basically 7/8 and 4/4 (or 8/8) bars. Therefore 7+8/8.
@jacksondavisTV7 жыл бұрын
dada i Yeah, I knew it was some type of 15 with the subdivision. I just figured at the end with how fast the pulse gets that it might've been 16ths and not 8ths.
@RomanchaPralapa11 жыл бұрын
It might be best interpreted more or less literally, so long as the reason for doing so is understood ... "Minimalism ... in which the simplest and fewest elements are used to create the maximum effect."

what. is this 15/8? 1234-123-1234-1234. I just can't figure out if i'm counting that right.

I think you misunderstand the definition of minimalism. It is not a literal definition. For example, Steve Reich is considered a minimalist composer as well, but his works can be incredibly complex. It's just a label. Just like all pop music isn't popular, and all that.
@HotSoupYum12 жыл бұрын
We are both moved by this; however, I hardly think this is a minimalist composition. The mathematical intricacy and complexity of his compositions don't match that definition. This is only my opinion, I am not correcting yours.

Glass is phenomenal, but I wouldn't call this particular piece 'minimalist'.
