FORMAT:
The final is decided via twelve 7-point matches, where the players get 1 point for a win and 1 point for a "PR Win" (the player with the lowest error rate according to eXtreme Gammon XG++ analysis). The first player to achieve 13 points wins the championship title.

Hey Marc, thanks as always for all you do for BG. Just some observations; mostly that the atmosphere is very flat, it’s huge loss not to have dual commentary with all the banter and discussion that brings especially not having Nick with you. I wish you’d reconsider this. Also the clarity of the board and XG is not great. Everything is very dark. Just the whole presentation seems a bit lo-res, IMHO last years format (and all the other recent tournaments) was much, much more enjoyable and professional. Just have a look at a screenshot of the 22 UBC with the orange/cream board and XG in black on white and it’s super clear. And seems no audio feed of the players chat or extra camera angles etc. Sorry!

I disagree 100%, the commentary is of a very high level and is a great way to learn and improve. Dual commrntary almost always keads to irrelevant banter and many moves go by without comment.

This year it’s live broadcasted, past years the UBC Final was pre-recorded and went through post-production. It’s has its pros and cons.

Thanks for reading Marc. For sure - maybe with your last tournaments being so super slick this does seem like going back in time but I hope you see it as feedback rather than moaning! 🙂 IMHO the pre-recorded added so much more. All the intros, discussions, links, presentation, graphics, build up etc in the earlier UBCs and WCs. Missing Michy at the end too! @@Marcolino10DK

great coverage. can you ask the input guy to load up the recommended plays for each move. so many missed that weren't put up, that i was keen to know XG's analysis on ! good job tho, very exciting and fun to watch 2 grandmasters

I think that using the overhead camera as a fixed focus prevents sharpness drift during broadcasting. Just a suggestion.

Thanks for recording and sharing this, I would like to know, not only in this situation, but overall, why hitting Mochizuki's checker at 31:18 was considered a good choice. It is no big pushback for Mochizuki, but for Lylloff's one checker, that will most likely get hit. Can anyone explain this to a noob please?

That is a very fundamental question and cannot be answered without a wholesale explanation of the game. I suggest you look at one of the many "how to play" videos.

While both players gave their best effort, I have one concern. I think Sander should show respect for his opponent and the venue by refraining from wearing headphones or listening to music. This is just my opinion, of course. ❤
