You're completely fine! Most applicants do not have any post-secondary education prior to applying! (In fact, I actually don't know anyone who had prior post-secondary education, so you're in good company!) That section is just for people who are looking to get a second degree or are transferring from another university.

Thank you! This is so informative. Do you know if we need to have chemistry and physics in high school to be accepted into the BUCS program. I’m in the 12th grade and applying this year :)

omg super excited to know someone is applying to BUCS :) To apply to BUCS, there are no additional requirements in addition to the Sauder admission requirements. After being admitted to Sauder, you just need to write an essay explaining why you want to be in the BUCS program. They do say that they only admit "Qualified Candidates", whatever that means. If you think you can do well in chem and physics, taking it could be a good demonstration of your logic skills. A more relevant course like computer programming might also help. However, it should be noted that a good amount of new BUCS students actually have no coding experience, and they can still do well in the program. lmk if you have any other questions, you can dm me on Insta: instagram.com/polyspective?igshid=OGQ5ZDc2ODk2ZA==

can you please let me know what are the credible posting of admission averages. seen anywhere from high eighties to mid nineties for same program
@PolySpective
@PolySpective 9 ай бұрын
Honestly, i don't think there are any official posting of admission averages. According to my orientation last year, a Sauder advisor said that the admission average for my year was 95%. While he is a credible source, I'm also kinda skeptical since most of my friends are below that (and they are doing well in Sauder rn) That's why in my video, i gave a general "low 90s should be fine" , since actual stats like these don't actually exists publicly.

Hey, thanks for this. I would like to know whether early application is worth it. I read online that early application is where they take grade 11 grades into account (i havent completed sem1 of grade 12), i have a 96% average in grade 11 (if we discount some of the non required corses, more like 97%), should i do early application?
@PolySpective
@PolySpective 8 ай бұрын
I don’t see why not, 96% is good enough in most cases. If you still don’t get in, grades won’t be the reason lol

Hey Hayden! Great video :) I’m interested in applying into UBC’s philosophy program. Regrettably, I was never really aware of the value in taking AP classes. As a result, I don’t have any AP or IB classes under my belt. Although, I am currently completing 2 dual credits. (My overall high school average is a 95). From what I understand, the arts program has an average of between 86 to 88. Will no APs come back to haunt me, or will my solid average come in clutch? (My extracurriculars are extremely solid, and I’m pretty confident my passion for philosophy will help with the personal essay questions. ((Ik that sounds kinda cliche.)))
@PolySpective

No need to worry! I didn’t have any AP/IB, still got early admitted! 95 is a solid mark, definitely enough for Arts, you’ll be fine dw👍🏼

do you need to fill out the additional information for your academics (ie. how did you choose your courses in secondary school, how did you prepare yourself for your intended area of study)? or is it recommended that you do? 🤔
@PolySpective
@PolySpective 6 ай бұрын
I filled it out just cause I had something to say about it. If you don't know what to write I think it's fine if you leave it empty, but definitely write something if you have things to talk about. TLDR: Writing something meaningful > Writing nothing > Writing bullshit

Hi Hayden, thank you so much for your video! I am currently in grade 10 hoping to study bio in the future. I took a few grade 11 courses like anthro in grade 10, and I'm not very proud of the mark I got. Will these be included in my transcript when I apply? Also, is it ok to take grade 11 math or english for summer school? Tysm!!
@PolySpective
@PolySpective 4 ай бұрын
UBC looks at all grade 11 & 12 relevant courses, but for bio, I don't think anthropology would be a relevant course so you’re safe there. Summer courses are totally fine, but do keep in mind that those marks do count, so take those courses seriously!

Hey! If I want to go into arts, should I take 2 sciences in high school (physics and chemistry), or is one enough? They said that they don’t require science 12 for arts, but I know that UBC is competitive. I’m scared about dropping my average, and I’m not sure if it’s worth the extra effort since they don't require it. I have already completed physics 12 and I’m also taking math 12. Should I take chemistry 12?
@PolySpective
@PolySpective 5 ай бұрын
If you're not confident about getting a good mark in Chem 12, I don't think it's worth risking. Taking safer courses, and ensuring the "relevant courses" stay at a good mark is more important. Besides, personal profile is also highly important, so I would also prioritize making that look good over taking Chem 12

Would a low-mid 90s average with no AP classes still be considered competitive for Sauder application?
@PolySpective
@PolySpective 6 ай бұрын
Grades wise that’ll be around admission average(which is fine lol you don’t need to be the best to get in) Your main concern at this point should be your personal profile, as that’s half your application. If that part is solid, your application will be competitive 👍🏼

For all science specialization, you need to finish first year before declaring a specialization like cs. For that, your high school grades don't matter anymore, it's just your first year GPA, which needs to be in the mid-80s. To get into science faculty, around low 90s in high school should be fine as long as you also have a decent personal profile!

Oh sorry, I thought you were just referring to grades For extra curriculars, definitely start early, as it's more ideal to write about a long-lasting activities rather than writing about something that you just joined a couple months ago. For grades, they really only look at your grade 11 and 12 marks, so you're fine there (Although I do believe that doing well in earlier grades does make it easier to get high marks in grade 11 and 12)
