Technically the concept has already been done at different levels (Ex. Nemesis System creation of unique NPCs) except every NPC is playable. The question I have is the fact that considering every character can die (Thus failing the mission) and that there is lasting consequences for failing, it creates a web of missions from the one failed mission, which is harder and a lot more work then the NPC situation. The other question is if the game has a game over state when every character you have recruited dies.

A character dying also fails the mission, and as seen in the supposed game play, more missions are created out of the first missions failure.

SquidlyTV Even so, there's nothing suggesting that those missions cannot be redone with another character. At most, that would suggest that there's missions that are locked away, and unlock only when you 'die'. But the path you're on is still pretty much the same.

The question is how many times will you die, which comes form how hard the game is, you clearly get to choose who you want to play as and can recruit people who you do like. The permadeath is key in making the game challenging without there is no stakes. The permadeath introduces the MOST interesting concept. The permanent consequence of failing a mission and the result of failing said mission. That will be what makes or breaks Legion.

SquidlyTV That kind of difficulty feels more of an illusion. At it's core, when people die, you'll just keep playing, but as someone else. The game can't have infinite stories and missions, so I imagine you'll end up doing those missions, just as someone else. And in the end, you're gone to see characters who function the same, so it won't even be that big of a change. Really, the investment of keeping a character you like alive will make it more tense, but at the end of the day, you're still 'immortal', you're just changing some elements each time you come back. Well, guess we'll have to wait and see.

@@SakuraAvalon What I meant was that stories are all illusions, meant to manipulate your emotions. They can make you feel happy, sad, satisfied but only when the creators want you too. Stories are illusions that once you learn how they are crafted breaks.
