I committed a crime and got a boo boo while handcuffed.... 🎻 is so small I lost it.

The park was awesome back in 86 and up to 2001. After that it changed especially after 2018. Most of the hippies that positivity inhabitant the park are gone dude it's not like been peoples park for years.

They've had fifty years and inflicted endless drug and crime abuse on the community. That's their legacy.

Look at all these scuzzy hobos and hobo advocates wanting to take the park and make it unusable to everyone but themselves. It never belonged to them.

It was great when I was there in the early 2000s but over the years when I come back to visit, it's just mostly for homeless folks. UC Berkeley can't fix the homeless problem. Students need more housing. The community could use some low income housign. Berkeley is very small compared to Oakland and that park is 2 blocks from south campus so it's super valuable space.

Anyone know how much it costs to rent a shipping container? Looks expensive, but effective

I have seen reporters being annoyed with panhandlers on Shattuck skittishly skipping aside then saying something like "people are sick of panhandlers in this town." That was 15 years ago. No doubt archived on You Tube.

People's Park has always been a crime vector. An Acquaintance of mine who was UC Senior Staff proposed that a possible solution was Student Housing, UCPD substation, and bike parking. People's Park is revered by 70 + year Olds who view it as Gettysburg for Rads. The tug of war over what was originally a parking lot went through many stages. UC built the restroom structure that garnered a comparison to a WW2 Camp in terms of smell. An original activist countered with Porta potties and trees. The stage bore the name Rosebud. Well she met a stony end. The Volleyball Court with Students paid to play same. Anna Head now renamed was always featured on the police scanner. The Ave at its best was in the 80s. The Med long gone was clean and well lighted. Cody's Bookstore was an anchor for weekend visitors. Crime? You bet. Drugs? Yes. So much so that undercover officers would post themselves outside the notorious restroom. Universities are land hungry. So UC has made its move. If one is a Berkeley native then as a kid you were told: "Stay off the Ave!" The Gown always wins eventually. Well the Cali Supreme Court's decision is pending.
