Episode 99
Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse is final game in the trilogy for the NES, and it's an absolute masterpiece! This game ditches the free exploration of Simon's Quest, and returns to the action focus of the original.
Castlevania 3 takes everything that made the original Castlevania awesome and adds even more - New playable characters, branching paths, and more bosses than ever before!
So how did this game get made, and what happened to the North American version that made it so difficult? In today's episode we'll find out then we'll dive deep into the gameplay where we'll learn:
* The best way to complete EVERY Stage, regardless of which character you choose!
* How to recruit all three characters!
* TONS of secret codes to get more lives, earlier characters, and more!
* Wall Meat - Where to find all of it!
* The SECRET GLITCH that can WARP you all the way TO THE FINAL STAGE!
* DETAILED MAPS for every level!
* Where do all these branching paths go? We'll look at every route!
* Hidden 1-UPs, and other secrets - We'll find them all!
* MULTIPLE strategies for EVERY BOSS - Even COUNT DRACULA himself... AND MORE!
Thanks for watching!

Poor Grant Danasty. First his entire family was killed, then he was turned into a demon and placed as a boss in a skippable stage, then he got turned into a zombie-mummy in Castlevania Judgement and then finally he got next to completely forgotten or/and ignored in the Netflix series. This underappreciated Castlevania hero truly deserves a better fate!

Alucard is able to use holy sub-weapons because his mother is from a "holy bloodline" according to Koji Igarashi and in SotN there was supposed to be an alignment system in which Alucard became either good or evil depending on his use of sub-weapons(good) or evil(dark magic). Also Sypha is a female who disguised herself as a male in order to escape from hunted down and executed as a witch. Nothing was mistranslated in English it was designed to keep the disguise going until the end.
@ARescueToaster
@ARescueToaster 11 ай бұрын
Regarding Sypha, is that the reason in the games? In the crappy Netflix show (well, it was pretty good and then turned crappy) they have her dress as a man to avoid trouble while travelling. Haven't read much of the lore outside of the games, but I know in the games she works for the church rather than being a gnostic mouthpiece for Warren Ellis's anti-religious beliefs in the Netflix show

Shout out to Aunt Lynne who worked at Meijer for 25 years and bought this for me in 1990 for Christmas with her extreme discount. It was always one of the favorites of my small NES collection growing up. Now that I’m older I can see what an amazing achievement this game is - outstanding graphics and possibly the best OST of any NES release, not to mention the replay value with branching paths and party members. Unashamed to admit I’ve never finished it to this day, but that changes now with UCBVG’s episode. Hell yes!

Oh Castlevania III, one of the best games on the NES and my personal favorite. It's also one of the best in the whole series. The feeling of dealing the last blow to Dracula after a long and hard battle is just epic. The weird ways in which they made some of the bosses laughable in the original Famicom version was also interesting though it's soundtrack is still amazing and helped getting you in the right mood of fighting Dracula's dark army, especially using Grant.

This was a massive episode! the way you took the time to show everything within the game left me speechless. I'd like to add that with this game you can see an evolution of the Castlevania formula: Castlevania 1 - linear Castlevania 2 - open world/exploration Castlevania 3 - multiple paths And if you merge all 3 you will have Castlevania Symphony of the night. I really enjoyed this episode, your skills are getting as big as that pup of you. 🤣

I would like to go through the figures in more detail and try to match up their accessories. That would be entertaining for myself and others. But also not excited about the figures being in Taiwan because I don't think the high heat and humidity are good for them long term. The 2nd loop in this game is pretty brutal. Other than additional enemies in areas that didn't have them, it also replaces all the medusa heads with skulls and they fly even more erratic than the medusa heads do. I made a challenge to myself to beat every path on the 2nd loop with every secondary character, since you start the 2nd loop with whichever character you finished the first loop with. Also, you can not get any other secondary characters in the 2nd loop. They just do not appear when you beat the boss of their stage.

Cool vid. I liked the entry codes. One thing you forgot to mention about Grant is that he can throw daggers and axes from the ceiling and walls. I fight Medusa with Grant by throwing axes down on her from the ceiling. Also, at 49:35 there is a Double in the block at the bottom left of the screen. Also, the one watching from the shadows was probably meant to be some villager who witnesses Trevor standing there as the castle crumbles, and that villager tells the tale of Trevor's heroism. However, with the addition of Curse of Darkness, it's possible that the person in the shadows is Issac, one of Dracula's loyal followers who was too late in arriving to help defend the castle.

First time I've ever actually sat and played alongside your video. Just made it to level 6. I always thought this game was insanely hard but it's actually not that bad. So great to finally play through it and experience the gameplay firsthand.

I love how you mention the whole map thing vs picking an exit on a stage. Because I think that very thing happens one or two games in the series from now. Richter also happens to be one of the favorites among the Belmont clan.
