Typically pharmacists will give out the lower cost generic version adderall-Amphetamine salts/levo-Amphetamine/Dextroamphetamine which are supposedly exactly the same as Adderall. Is this not what your experience was?? Im curious. The Pharmaceutical name brand medications are typically prohibitively expensive. How did you afford the prescription??

Yes. Dexedrine is a very mild medication WRT onset/wearoff and minimal side effects. Adderall and Ritalin are powerful and side effect ridden, ime.

You can’t diagnose psychiatric conditions with blood tests due to the complexity of neurochemistry - this would be the equivalent of attempting to read someone’s thoughts using blood screens. Brain scans are used to find out if there are physical abnormalities in the brain such as tumours but can’t accurately detect the levels of different specific neurotransmitters in regions of the brain and certainly not at the level to be able to accurately diagnose conditions like adhd, depression, Aspergers syndrome ect - again you can’t read someone’s thoughts using a brain scan. Someone with a psychiatric illness like adhd won’t have a physically misshapen brain that would be detectable on a MRI scan. Amphetamines are not prescribed at doses that recreational drug users would take so this is a false comparison - most of the physical health problems associated with street amphetamine usage are actually mainly down to the fact these are very low quality and contain a variety of toxic impurities. The amphetamine is the addictive molecule but it’s all of the other stuff in combination that tends to kill people/cause health issues - a bit like smoking, with nicotine alone not being that dangerous (although addictive), however all of the other toxic chemicals in cigarette smoke being the real killer. Medical amphetamines at prescription doses have less side effects than caffeine when used correctly.

@Futures so you are basically discounting the whole field of psychiatry? I agree that many drugs are often over prescribed especially in the US due to the for profit healthcare system and avenues of research that may be more effective are likely often ignored by pharmaceutical companies as they wouldn’t be profitable. The conditions themselves are certainly real though and have been well studied. I definitely agree that the US healthcare system is mad and this is mainly down to the absurd power of the pharma lobby. I’m from the uk and we have a nationalised healthcare system here everything is free so there is little incentive for profit. Adhd is still a thing here although it’s much less commonly diagnosed.

I have read that on RxList. It's not extremely significant but it can cause them, especially because it seems that it can make some seizure meds not work as well

I've heard some people with ocd and adhd that use stimulants can help them focus on things like CBT which can overall help with OCD. I'm not a doctor though, just been doing lots of research on this topic for myself.

@@Nethezbet I took them as the doctors prescribed, I got resistance after a few months and kept going up 10mgs for about 5 - 6 months span.

@@FreshBiscuit-n6z I got resistant to the highest dose of concerta within a couple of months, they worked for about a week then within a couple of months I was more hyper than ever so I switched to vyvanse and they work really well but I came off them too quick so this time I think I will stay on them for a few months then I’ll start having regular breaks of a few days but I’ll always be working to get off them altogether but they make too big of a difference not to take them just now but I learned a lot from stopping them - I don’t really know I’m taking anything other than the many huge benefits but I still don’t like taking them 😢 but I have way more acceptance following my recent down turn

Ask to try the other family of stimulant medications. Concerta is in the Ritalin family. You could try Vyvanse or Dexedrine.

Highly recommend exercising frequently like 4 times a week at least, I ran cross country competitive while growing up and I’m pretty sure that is why I was never diagnosed. Also meditation every day helps you learn how to control your mind better

I heard that SSRIs can make symptoms of untreated ADHD (depression, insomnia...) even worse. I'd get a second opinion and then decide if you'd want to take it or not.

Try guafacine, and those medication used to boast productivity and energy. That’s not the problem with adults with adhd it’s the lack of attentiveness and motivation to do something and completing it, organization, and lack of time management.

Daily exercise will help with anxiety and depression even your diet plays a big role. As far as meds go everyone's different. Hopefully they didn't misdiagnose you.

Do you know if you snore? Not feeling refreshed from sleep could be a sign of sleep apnea. You can ask your doctor about a sleep study & try sleeping on your side.

Yes most stimulants are addictive, and they will put you on certain type of meds , depending on your age!

Normally a doctor should know. ADHD/ADD is something that already show signs before you are 6 years old. If you have, its not necessary to use medication if the symptoms is manageable. The right job or a helping family can make ADHD non existing. If they don't have any daily disturbing that could come from ADHD/ADD, they might not need to treat them self as having ADHD/ADD.

You should get official testing and diagnosis from a psychologist.

@@blorrancurry303 it works out ok, it really takes the edge off and helps me focus, but sometimes I wish I had something stronger because I feel like it wears off after 2 or 3 hours. But overall I like it. It also prevents me from having panic attacks.

@@corymodzeleski7191 I’ve been on 2mg Guanfacine for a couple years now and I don’t feel it works at all. However, I’m only taking it once a day in the AM. If you’re taking it multiple times a day I may speak to my doctor about trying something like that and see if there’s any changes.

You've built a tolerance. Try switching to IRs instead and take as needed. Or try switching stimulant medication. Like the video said, if it doesn't seem to be working, try switching classes, like concerta or ritalin.

Same thing is happening right now with me and concerta, but concerta has been a real pain in the ass

The closes to a "natural" ADHD drug is probably caffeine. Many people live there whole life with just self medicate with loads of coffee and never discovered they had ADHD. Because caffeine is a stimulant. But not very effective for all. Psychical activity can be a natural way to increase your dopamine levels and is very natural :)

everyone gets different side effects for different drugs at different doses. they are no guarantee, just as the efficacy of the treatment is not guaranteed for any one drug. There is variance between patients as how they respond to the drugs.

One time I took 80mg in one day and I thought I took 4 5mg but it took my 20mgs

@Andrew K Maybe its a daily dosage? i was on 10mgs 5x daily and it wasnt lasting long enough. Adderall was better for me. i dont know for sure but maybe that's what the OP meant?

Wellbutrin is not an ADHD medication and most of the nonstimulants will not work for people with ADHD.

You don’t understand ADHD if you think like this. The stigma around it being “like crack” is propaganda and very harmful. It only affects people who don’t have ADHD like that, stimulants saved my life and continue to do so to this day. Please take the time to read about ADHD and it’s effects on the brain instead of spreading scare tactics. Medications are closely monitored by doctors, and are very likely to cause an individual with ADHD to take more than needed to function normally.

leave the medical opinions to the doctors. they are professionals and you are not. they went through the years of medical school and residencies which makes them know better than you. imagine a taxi driver trying to tell an airline pilot how he should operate and fly his plane. its absurd

It can really help though and of course that’s not always the case. They are really effective but you can try non stimulates first. If you need it young you just need it young, you shouldn’t always wait.

Be more scared about not medicating your kid. eg watch Dr. Russell Barkley’s teaching videos. 4x the car accidents, increased drug/alcohol issues, smoking, school failure, underachievement, underemployment, depression, anxiety, low self esteem, teen pregnancy, need I go on?

@@kayladacosta9295 A zombie medicated kid is a kid who is having issues that need to be solved with the medication not the medication, it shouldn’t be the end goal. It’s a problem that needs to be fixed, some parents stop there because that’s what they think is right and external problems seem fixed to them. Too high a dose, wrong medication for their brain but not others. A kid is met with daily frustrations where they aren’t doing well as they know they can tanking self esteem and leading them to find success in other things even if they liked it. If it’s not your area you exceeded the limits. A student who is an +A student is a C but a C student is failing. Not saying you can’t be smart and have ADHD it is an example. I wish I would have had it earlier because I finally feel capable to do simple everyday things that I saw everyone else could do with ease. A kid without could end up with problems like above. People need a sense of accomplishment, it’s a kid without a sense of time. Their parents yell because they were hyper focused on drawing and nothing is done. No kid wants blame the can’t control they blame themselves.

These are drugs. The only difference is the way you intend to use them. You can snort Ritalin if you want or you can take it as you are meant to. Instead of judging people about drugs and being strongly against all use of them try to understand circumstances in which they are useful and benefits for there use
