This is an incredible video - thank you! Love the breakdown and criticism from the coach. Was really impressed with the kids too. They had it dialed in.

There is more off ball movement in this video than an NBA game.

So this must be part of the reason why Bill Walton was such a good passer out of the high post. Love how this offense keeps the big men engaged.

I ran this when coaching a high school girls' team. I had a 6 footer who had never played before, so we got her the ball at the high post where she could see the floor and let her pass to whoever was open.

it's pretty much like motion, but the original set up is different...the center come and get the ball then it's pretty much all about reading situations among the other 4 players...

+cariocabassa If you read the Coach's book, you would find that he wasn't a fan of most motion offenses. His offense used vertical passes to quickly put the defense at risk. He forced defenses to defend the high post.

Weakside is reserved for the 2-Guard in 2019. 😀😀 1-3-5 PLAYERS all together on the strong side.

I definitely understand where your coming from with all of your comments, but the UCLA offense is for the lower levels now. As anyone who coaches or has coached at the D-1 levels and lower can attest to the skill sets you're talking about don't usually exist at the positions you're talking about. For example trailing bigs who can hit the 3 are a luxury at every level except the NBA right now. It will change in the coming years since the NBA players are who the kids copy, but for now NBA offenses cannot be effectively run at lower levels unless you have a very skilled roster.

@@davidzahry I disagree with you 100%. 😅😅😅 Last season the Lakers used 6'9 Power Forward Kyle Kuzma as the initial ballhandler in 1-4 High UCLA Offense. The head coach, Luke Walton, son of former UCLA legend Bill Walton.

@@davidzahry I am a former head coach, albeit High School level but at the time I had a Power Forward that liked to shoot 3-pointers, my assistant coach wanted me to force the TALLER PLAYER to stay in the low post. A little ahead of my time. I ran UCLA Double = the cutter used a weakside Double-Staggered Pindown Screen for the 3-pointer.

In 2019 NBA, a TRAILING BIG concept has taken over. The 2-Guard is not up top anymore. Stretch-4 plays mostly outside the 3-point line like an OVERSIZED shooting guard.

Ok, so use this system when you have 3 and 4 interchangeable

@@graztothebone A Stretch-4 is MANDATORY now, so the Center can Rim-Run. The alternative = 4 perimeter players and 1 BIG.

@@deandrepage1048 My team won a pro championship without a stretch 4 in 2014. They didn't tell me it was mandatory to have one. It wasn't the NBA, but I would love to learn from your experience in that league.

@@graztothebone You can use this Offense on any level if you put your mind to it and know how to adapt it to fit the generations. This DVD & book were my BIBLE when I was coaching, so I love talking about it. The recent craze over 6'10 players being tired of always being thrown in the low post has created more BIGS that would rather shoot 3-pointers than perform a Drop Step or Up & Under Move. You can still run "Actions" from the UCLA Offense. I always used 2-3 High, but I see NBA teams use 1-4 High mostly. Some still use "Hawk Offense " where you still get the UCLA Cut off Dribble Entry, so no Guard-to-Wing Pass.

Question, would this type of offense work with how the game is played today?
@wessparkmon2395
@wessparkmon2395 Жыл бұрын
Obviously there's something about the level of talent you have, but Bellarmine University runs something not entirely dissimilar which is easily the most passing based offense in college basketball. The ball comes through a high post and keys from there a lot with a ton of motion. It created a Division II dynasty who immediately won their conference when they moved to DI. Their coach Scott Davenport played and coached under Denny Crum, who played and coached under Wooden at UCLA, so it makes sense how it carried through. There's a great video explaining how they are so different than the ballscreen and drive game of today.
