If you are older than these kids and wish you could've done something like this when you were younger; channel those feelings into materially supporting these kids by providing them with equipment and funds. The only thing that keeps me going, is the knowledge that this nightmare has to end. It's not sustainable, but more than that, it requires the constant worsening of the material conditions of the population. Eventually, that always triggers a response. Not a temporary protest, or a party re-alignment. The 'awakened a sleeping giant' kind of response. admin didn’t show up to this conversation in good faith but tbh the students were all over the place. their yelling at him made sense but it literally has never been shown to be effective w admin. i wish the organizers strategized this convo better. 2-3 speakers w very clear talking points, keeping the main issue of palestine at the forefront, negotiating demands, and getting admin to protect students rights and safety.

This is so fascinating as a UCLA grad and current UCR grad student. The Gene Block mention was funny. This students are brave for all they’ve gone through last night. But they sound a little silly bc he’s right that the regents control the Big Things, not that anyone knows who they specifically are. University of California is essentially the state at this point

They don’t sound silly. He seems silly for turning up to negotiate when he has no authority to respond to their demands

God bless these students. I'm so grateful they're coming together to press the Universities and stand up for the lives of Palestinians - some of whom attend these schools, and who have lost some or many family members.

Its unfortunate this happen so immediately after an attack. It has totally hampered their ability to coherently, collectively, clearly, calmly, and captivate the conversation. If given the time and collective time to discuss and ground it'd be decisive.

22:52 that's the funny part, he literally admits that he was watching from his office or another building or whatever during the discussion. He was there, he just hasn't looked at any of the things that happened that have been being posted online. He's just using the "I hadn't heard that and that's why I didn't attempt to do anything about it" defense.

Might have been bad optics before, but with a population sick of the "I don't have power to do shit managerial BS.", hopefully people don't fall for it. Anyone that has called customer service saw that Vice Principal and understood he was there as a punching bag, He was the Universities customer service representative, that has been explicitly ordered not to actually assist but just take the beating. Dude just clocking in for the paycheck, part of the job description is eat shit for the university.

If Mr Vice Chancellor doesn't have any answers, he should have come prepared to have the people with the answers available. But that was not the point of this "negotiation", to come to an agreement. It was to stall and posture. He is the Vice Chancellor of one of the largest universities in one of the largest states in the richest country in the world, you know that he has the ability to make things happen. If this was an event for rich alumni and donors, he could arrange for anything needed, to be available.

i hate when people like him talk like "were going to have to look into it" or "we want our students to be able to express themselves" like we know you read the professional not actually saying anything book. i wish people like this would just talk like normal and not dance around things.

Why even have a vice chancellor position if you can’t do anything except talk to ANYONE but a single channel? instead of going out of your way to reach EVERY channel and BEYOND for your students. Why don’t you offer yourself to sit with them to keep them safe? If not divestment, protect them instead of being a useless person.
