I had Barretts for 15 years. Endoscopy surveillance every year. 40mg. Nexium every day. It went away. Two years of negative scopes and gastro Dr. very surprised. Still have Reflux so I take over-the-counter Nex 20mg plus in AM and 150 Zantac at bed. Gave up coffee, alcohol, chocolate, citrus, tomatoes and spices. (Never smoked but you must give that up too.) Intermittent fasting (18-6) has help with reflux and weight loss.

Gerald Brienza hello I was just diagnosed with Barrett’s. Any recommendation for swallowing. It’s so uncomfortable and painful just to swallow my saliva. It’s awful. I already started myself on a alkaline diet. You just got rid of it with the above information u just shared? Thanks

Genien Galiano : glad to help. Try a heaping table spoon of baking soda in high PH water (I use 10 by alkalife.) also, I’ve had great success with intermittent fasting. Start with 16 fast, 8 eating. Then work up to 20 and 4. Take your PPI at least 1 hour before eating anything and get a micronutrient blood test (not covered) to assess your vitamin and mineral levels and Deficiencies. Never be “full” don’t eat 3 hours before bed and use “bed risers” to elevate the head of your bed at least 4” . Good luck to you.

Lisa Huhn : hi Lisa. Intermittent fasting is eating all of your food in a small widow if time with only water in the fasting period. Normally, one starts with 16 hours fasting with 2 meals in the remaining 8 hours. Gradually narrowing that eating window to just 4 hours. Many videos on u tube you should check out. Any other questions, I’ll be happy to answer for you.

Learned quite a bit about my condition. Glad to hear medical world is continuing to learn more about how to recognize and help patients with this condition. I think mine is heredity from both sides. Hopefully next procedure will help me to be able to eat and swallow normally.

I developed mine from sleeping on stomach. Only if I had known how fragile the human body is on the inside especially, the Gastroesophageal junction , I would've slept on my back in a incline position since day one. Unfortunately , its too late for me and I'm only 27.

Very useful information. I am 71 YO Asian female. I was diagnosed Achalasia in 1994. I had Myotomy around sphincter. in Sept. 1996 by Dr DeMeester. I had an EGD recently and the biopsy shows Barrett's esophagus. I am not sure what I should do next, but the information provided by V. Raman Muthusamy, MD gave me a better understanding of what I have. It is most helpful. Thank you for putting it on youtube.

I HAD Barrets but on my last Edg, they said it was not showing up. What I did was try to eat an alkaline diet the best way that I could. I would eat a little meat here and there but not every day. I make sure I drink a spinach , Kale, Chard smoothie for breakfast in the mornings, add a little piece of lemon for taste. Some mornings I would eat some oatmeal no sugar but add fruit or a little honey for taste. For lunch I will maybe eat some fruit: watermelon, cantaloupe , or just a bag of grapes. For dinner, I would eat maybe a piece of salmon, broccoli , steamed zucchini, squash and for my drink, a spinach and kale smoothie with a pinch of lemon in it. When I make the smoothies , I usually do not add ice, remember I am not eating for taste but for health! I do not drink nothing but water, when I can I drink alkaline water. NO Coffee, Teas, Sodas, or any other beverage. Water only. I try my best to snack on pecans, walnuts, and some seeds. I cant lie people, sometimes I also snack on a small bag of chips maybe twice a month, I HUMAN okay! The chips are NOT recommended. Try your best to stay away from the sugars , pies, cakes, honey buns, cookies, candy ect.. it is enough sugar in your fruits. NO pork, No processed meats, and try to stay away from bread if possible. Note: You will drop off the pounds, maybe look like you did when you were in high school. Your blood pressure will be lower, and usually your energy will be high depending on what other medications you take.

@@luckylo I hope you are still with us. I guess most of the people who commented on this video are no longer with us. Since they no longer respond back when you reach out to them. Very sad. For me I'm trying my best to survive. I limited my food consumption and changed my diet and also sleep at a 35 degree incline position. It has been 1 year 6 months since my diagnosis. How are you doing ?

I have Barretts Esophagus and get an endoscopy at Mayo every two years. I usually take about 15 mg omeprazole every day and it works pretty well. Eat only when the stomach is empty and avoid red meat.

The statistics on how many people have this is absurdly not true. It's far more prevalent than that. Three million people just in the state I live in alone would be more accurate not nationwide.
