Gamecocks are actually quicker without Cardoso in the game. Watkins gets better with each game. Their depth takes a little hit without Cardoso (and Jah - who only plays 3 min a game) but they had a warmup game on Thursday to test this temporary system. Will be interesting to see if UConn struggles with Fulwiley on defense. Steals, many players can block shots. UConn needs to shoot lights out from 3.

Well this aged like fine wine…. Sheeesh And I thought comparing the SC-ND game against ND-UConn was a bad idea. SC is overwhelming. Too much athleticism, Ashlyn Watkins & Chloe Kitts are huge problems for opposing teams. And if you happen to get things going well against their starting 5, here comes Fulwiley off the bench causing turnovers and slashing thru defenses.

I'm a devoted UConn fan, and I've been impressed by your astute analyses all season. I can't quarrel with your commentary on this one because I simply don't think UConn has the bench to compete. In view of the fact that 5 key players are out, we UConn fans should be happy with the current 20-4 record. The only things I believe will keep UConn in the game are (1) they must avoid foul trouble and (2) they have to hit more of their 3s. I think a 20-point loss may be a bit of a stretch, but you never know. With a bench of Samuels, Brady, DeBerry and Bettencourt, that's not a group designed to compete with the Gamecocks' bench. Even if UConn were to pull one of the great upsets of the season, doing it in the absence of Cardoso would deserve an asterisk.

UConn fan here, I remember it used to be UConn and then the rest. As a UConn fan sure I want to win, now it is an opportunity to watch a good game regardless of the outcome. No excuses, just a good game. SC has a superstar player out, UConn has 3 out of 4 stars out, but you play and do the best you can. Blowout, tight win, does it really matter ? Refs are good or bad, but be equal on both sides. Lets all cheer on a good game.

I think player by player matchups make this sound like it’ll be closer than it’ll end up actually being, because like you said, Bueckers and Edwards are the two best overall players on either of these teams But SC is always better than a sum of their parts. UConn teams are usually like that too, but being so shorthanded and reliant on getting quality minutes from freshmen, they just do not have the depth to hang with SC

But honestly, based on your player vs player analysis you made it sound like a close game unless Fulwiley pops off. Which is very possible but uncertain as she is just still a freshman.

South Carolina is 93-3 in these last 3 seasons including this one. They lost those games by a combined total of 7 points. You got to go back even farther to the last time they lost on their home floor, all the way to Dec 3 2020 when they lost to NC State. 54-46. I am not making a prediction just trying to set the stage for what kind of task Uconn has before it.

When a team is thought to be a professed underdog BY THE EXPERTS, what has to be considered is the team which is 20-4 is much different then what they were at the start of the season. However, the Notre Dame loss was an eye opener. They clearly weren't ready to face them and their defense was atrocious by UCONN standards! Don't expect that to happen again. Unfortunately, the outcome of the game will probably be largely influenced by how the game is refereed. If they are quick with the whistle it will hurt UCONN more than SC because SC clearly has superior bench strength. One thought you raised was very significant and there is no logical explanation about why it exists. Bueckers and Edwards have a lot to prove in this game. If each of them perform up to their capabilities (against an elite opponent) it opens up the gate, 'wide open', and we have ourselves a game!

I am a UConn fan, regardless of the outcome. Ironically, people will soon get tired of the S.C. dominance unless you're a fan. Non-fans will start the same old song and dance about a "lack of parity". I don't listen to that old ass song. I think, like last years game, depth will play role, and SC will win, but it's UConn. They will always stand a chance, because they always have quality players. Unlike last year, this game will be in South Carolina, so the advantage goes to SC.

As I always say, anything is possible. Iowa did beat them in the final 4 game. Reason being: Iowa’s perimeter shooting. South Carolina did not take many outside shots during that game. If you do the math, multiple 3 points scores higher than multiple 2 points. Let’s not forget, Iowa didn’t have many bigs at the time either. Coach Staley smarten up & transferred Tahina Pao-Pao for that. Plus, South Carolina is shooting better three’s this year. Also, UCONN freshman have been playing better, as of late. If Coach Geno goes with a faster, smaller line up, able to knock down three’s, whereas South Carolina guards having an off night, they might have a “small” chance. As usual, it will be the bigs, rebounding, and 2nd chance shots that will defeat UCONN. As an LSU fan, there are a few teams that might be able to knock South Carolina out come tournament time, and the Tigers are one of them. I’m sure you saw the game. I gather South Carolina will win between 15-20 points. ❤

Shade will probably guard Pao Pao, Nika will get Kitts. SC has the advantage and and should win, but if Paige and Aaliyah are the players we think they are, they will show up. UCONN will have the 2 best players on the court and shouldn't get beat by 20, if at all!

South Carolina is going to have its typical slow start and go down by more than usual -- but they will stay in their game, mix it up, turn the bench loose, and pull it out in the end. It won't be a blow out - especially if UConn gets hot on the perimeter.

Wow. I thought you were going the other way with this one. I expect UConn to win handly, because what they do is more dependable. Star power usually overcomes depth because there is only one ball. I think the UConn's Bueckers and Edwards combo will be too much for South Carolina. A Fulwiley 35 and 12 game could be an X factor, but UConn goes 8 deep (Despite a hospital ward of injuries). I'll say 79-64 score will be about right. I expect South Carolina to struggle from 3 because UConn's speedy lineup can close out faster than most teams. Bueckers was grilled for not matching Hildago's energy, so she'll have extra motivation. Kitts and Watkins are excellent shot blockers but not necessarily stellar rim protectors. They don't have the size and girth. Watkins does damage on the weak side, but head to head vs. a talent like Edwards, she'll be prone to foul trouble. Pili (Who's admittedly 5'10" skinned her alive down low). Chloe Kitts will be even more vulnerable. Would be helpful if South Carolina could develop a sure-fire go to scorer at around 18ppg, but they haven't. No one on that team is used to taking a high volume of shots and I think it will take a 30 point performance by one of them, to offset Paige and Edwards exploding for 50. It's difficult for any player, even Fulwiley, to just turn that meter on.

Lol if Caitlyn didn't beat Iowa last year, we probably don't have a champioship. Dawn fixed that and no one will let their guards shoot anymore. Kim flat out said we will shoot from outside before the game.

if KK can avoid her uncontrolled drives requiring running over defenders - if Ash is utilized to the max and she relaxes and zeros in on her shooting - if PB can start out with feeds to 3-pt. shooters ------------- would love to see Ash go nuts on scoring --- her defense is real good hope she goes to A+ level on defense ------------- the PB--> Allyha connection will not be as open as in prior games ------- would like to see Q-ball start instead of KK !!! ?? maybe Amari jazzed up and put in to play foul line area on offense and on defense to stop ALL shots in the inside circle and I mean blocks /physical manhandling/ and REBOUND like no other game -------- if she plas hard early and fouls out - its okay if she goes big in other areas !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
