It was Azzi Fudd 3's that won this game, and she played all throughout the game. I wonder how come Caroline was just on the bench most of the time. She got good games and skills, height, defense, and offense.

Hell yeah. Missed the first 7 minutes because of the OT game. And DVR’d it so I could start the game 35 minutes late to ff through all the commercials. Usually end up catching up to live play right at the end of the game that way. But, I couldn’t switch to ESPNU to catch the start by doing that.

Yes, Nika committed a couple of bad fouls just as time was expiring on UCF, and Caroline missed a couple of point blank layups. I am sure no one felt worse than they did. But sitting them for the rest of the game is not the way to nuture elite players. They would have killed themselves to restore their teams faith. Without these two players work during the regular season UConn might be playing in the NIT right now. They deserved better treatment.
@reesespieces5560
@reesespieces5560 2 жыл бұрын
I understand what you’re saying but to be fair it was a pretty close game and since Ducharme and Nika weren’t being consistent Geno made the decision to sub in players who were. In any other non conference game he would let them play, but this is the NCAA tournament, it’s a one and done😳 anyways no hate I’m just passionate about the game lol

@@TheDisruptiveOne Geno said in the post game presser that Nika sat because be needed dependable offense MORE than he needed a defensive stopper. Any decision can be second guessed for sure. But Geno's resulted in a W. I'm ALWAYS gonna give the guy w 28 straight Sweet 16s, 13 straight Final Fours and 11 championships the benefit of the doubt. He's proven his feel for what's needed when is pretty good.

Been a UConn fan for 30+ yrs..that was one of the toughest ones for me to watch. I see what Geno has been saying all season...this is a different crew to coach. Yes, they played a tough, physical, chippy team...but there's no excuse for being so disoriented/at times looking lost...and missing easy layups. Also 29% shooting isn't a good look. Caroline should have played. I love Dorka, but she was absent last night. Amari should have been subbed. (when Liv and Aaliyah were in foul trouble) Evina was invisible for the most part. It was ugly. And I agree with the shitty refs...awful. Can only hope they get it together for the Indiana game or it's over.
@emmra2218
@emmra2218 2 жыл бұрын
Those refs were atrocious. It was like they were officiating a flopping contest by UCF but I'm not sure if Amari could have given them anything solid. She's not playing with any "I deserve to be here" swagger. She and Gabriel seems scared and confused when they get in the game, it's cringy when they get on the court and against a scrappy team 🤔 probably would have been more giveaways than anything. Physicality has been this team's Achilles heel but by the same token you can't say you don't like your team without Paige and expect them to really produce anything remotely close to confidence in her absence and when she returns expect to be instantly healed. Nika should have gotten the start and more playing time and continue to work Paige in. Now that she's back they seem to not know who the offense should flow through. Add that to the lack of Physicality and we got a mess. Aliyah had numerous post ups where they didn't even look at her because they were trying to find Paige or Azzi. The way my anxiety setup 😫 I don't know if I can take it 🙏🏼

Paige is definitely not as hot as she was last year because of obvious reasons, but she really did give us some buckets most times when our offense has either become stagnat or lost which reminds us that we are still playing basketball. I understand that nika should have started or infact play more minutes but I don't think the decision geno made is totally unreasonable. Nika is known for her defensive prowess she isn't an offensive player and our defense was working well without her . We just couldn't do anything on offense . So playing paige more and evina who can make plays and also get buckets. Its very reasonable to play less nika. Our higs were awful on offense but they play good defense. For AZZI , 🙂 GOD BLESS HER !!

That was final-4 stuff the ncaa gave UConn early. The refs hurt us down low. It could be said that Dorka's decision to transfer won the game. Their star from the Miami game was stopped in this game. Husky 3pt shooting was stifled by their defense at the 3pt line and UConn had difficulty making paint shots. So, scoring was at the free-throw line. That was a very tough game. AZ was amazing as a freshman! I think that constantly ramping up pressure on the kids is too much. Each game is usually tougher, but the obviously strange seeding of UCF as a 7 was wrong. Let the next game define itself. Don't decide beforehand how it MUST be won. More opportunism please. Great coaching for this game. I was pacing the floor and very worried. I can't imagine how Geno felt. Experience helps and the players have to keep learning.

I have a thought about missed lay-ups, and there were a lot of them in this game. Here's my thought: when a player goes up toward the basket with the ball, and anticipates contact (because the game is pretty physical) most often they will instinctively give more energy to the shot thinking they have to get through the contact. That thought in the mind can lead to a missed shot. UCF missed lay-ups as well as UConn. This was a tough, physical game. Were all the missed lay-ups contested, no, not all. But enough lay-ups had one, sometimes two defenders, putting pressure on the shot. I don't know how many of us would be able to keep our composure when one or more defenders are coming at us.

I don’t get ppl saying UConn played bad. It was a scrappy game but we had so many open looks they just weren’t falling. If any part of the game was bad it’s probably the 4th quarter when they lost the 12pt lead but if they make all those layups it wouldn’t be a problem. They just can’t miss layups like that in the future. I don’t think they will….I hope

It was definitely scrappy but they made bad decisions. The reinsertion of Paige over Nika has the girls at an empasse. Who gets more touches? Nika is a distributor and so is Evina. Paige is a shot taker and they were passing up open looks trying to force it to Paige. Aliyah was posted and had the seal on several occasions but she didn't get any touches inside. There was no inside outside action. UCF's defense was really good but UCONN's ball movement was bad. So now they seem to be forcing perimeter shots when Caroline has been big for them inside and outside and Dorka 😳, ...not one layup. That was not good but they just have to fix it in the mix. Let's go UCONN!!!
@grobble8954
@grobble8954 2 жыл бұрын
They did play bad, past UConn teams blew UCF out. They did it by making shots, especially layups. UCF is offensively challenged if UConn makes their shots early, the UCF style of taking the air out of the ball puts their offense under even more pressure. Also, part of the issue is Paige is about 60-70% IMO, Normal Uconn would push on every miss by UCF to speed things up & not let their defense get set, another way they used to blow out UCF, make them defend in transition & not half court

It may not sound like it but I'm a huge UCONN fan but making it to the EE is going to be hard with this roster. They have prized ponies on this squad and not thoroughbreds. This game against UCF showed that. They're not poised under pressure and they lack mental and physical grit against tough teams. Tough teams causes them to foul alot. They're finese players not tough players which is why they missed so many chippies under duress.

What a scrapy game! The speed and intensity that this game exhibits caused the low shooting percentages. Next year, I expect Yukon to start Bueckers, Fudd, Ducharme, & Edwards. Niki Muehl & Lou, the transfer, will see a lot of action. If a girl can shoot the short & midrange jumper & if she can get free underneath, Geno will give her floor time. Dorka will see time at center & so will Dewberry. I don't expect anyone else to get much floor time, and injuries will be a factor in who gets how much.

What does this game have to do with them being “hood” just because they’re scrappy?????? Most of y’all sound really ignorant. You can commentate on the game but you don’t have to be rude and stereotypical. But it was a good game to watch.

Do refs make bad calls? Of course. They always have, always will. Their calls are part of the game. The most difficult calls are the "judgment" calls; who initiated the contact, which player did not give the other player their allotted space on the floor, was the action intentional or not, did that player carry the ball or was that the natural motion of dribbling the ball. Very tough to tell in these situations, and more, sometimes. Each side wants the calls to go their way. A referee does a bad or good job depending on which team "got their way." Leave the refs alone? No, not at all. Simply exercise a bit more feeling for how hard the job is.

@lastonestanding3417 2 жыл бұрын
@@onestgermain I understand your sentiment One. You did hear me though, right? Not asking for sympathy for refs, just a bit more understanding of the dynamics at play during a game, that's all. I understand that fans (fan-atics) do not entertain seeing the forest for the trees. But I've seen some of your other comments, and you appear to be a person who is more than a fanatic. You better believe I know bad calls were made, but refs calls are just 1/3 of the game. The next game will more than likely be completely different as neither team is a "smash-mouth" type of team. Gonna be interesting.
@onestgermain

@@lastonestanding3417 Regardless of being a “fan-atic”or not, if we can see a “bad call” and they don’t , there is a problem! No matter how pro one team we are, deep down we know if our player was wrong. Like I said, if you cannot make the right call, at this level, find another job! I am reasonable here, they are not robots, people make mistakes. But when a game is marred by bad mistakes… any game, the proof is in the pudding! No sympathy!

Lord that Mexican guy ref was TERRIBLEEEEEE. Gosh. They couldn’t even play basketball cause every single call was a moving screen or a soft ass call. Refs makes the whole game about them like “oh it’s cool that these are D1 women basketball players but let’s not forget I’ll determine if they are gonna have a good game or not” 🙄

So by UConn standards....no it wasnt that pretty of a game. They literally left around 20 points underneath on bunnys. but every game is not a perfect ballet. Sometimes ya just gotta win ugly. We will see if the offense clicks next game..i mean..it kinda has to.

UCF didn't deserve to win. They disrupted UCONN with fouling and pushing, not discipline. UCONN played better, disciplined defense. UCF shot less than 29%. Bully defense is overrated.

Our 3pt% was higher than our layup %. 9 out of 10 games those layups go in. If half of those layups went in we’d be up 20. Some of those were wide open too lol. I hope they learn from this cuz I later rounds they lose
