Truth be told folks, I've known about this car for about a year. Yes, it's currently residing at the SAME shop (Cyclone Auto, Old Klang Road) where I found the Nissan Bluebird 1.8L! He'd gotten this car soon after selling me the BB, and it's been there ever since.
I'm actually amazed nobody has snapped it up really, because as can be seen in the video, it's in running condition and needs some TLC for it to turn from an ugly duckling to a swan. They're so rare now these Colts, and really from a bygone era. Yes, needless to say I'm very tempted!

I am nearly 17 now I had a 1986 Mitsubishi Colt GL Hatch 1.6 litre it is a light brown colour I got it in 2018 for $50 it only went threw 3 owners the first was a old lady back in 86 in Queensland and the last owners where travellers that had dumped it. I made a good deal with my grandfather which he only bought it for the wheels. Me and my Dad tuned it up because it was running like a dog it had everything intact and didn’t have anything missing in it it has the original radio and it had everything still intact. it only had 82000KM on the clock and I put a extra 2000km on it flogging it around the farm I ended up straight piping it and that made it sound beautiful I sold it about a month ago at my grandparents farm auction I ended up getting $440 for it to put towards my car for when I get my license. I loved my good old colt it was a awesome car and it served me some fun memories.👌🏻😄

My Mitsubishi life started with these and yes i put in a 4G63 in it in my last one ! Beating a mercedes 500 sel v8 on the German autobahn the mercedes had a speedlimiter so his speed was 250 km/h my colt runn 260 km an hour never to be forgotten those moments

@@ChrisWeevilGarage no worries bro. Theres another models with the same engine and gearbox. Mitsubishi Tredia. Very popular during early 80s. The Orion engine was what Mitsubishi gave Proton, to finished up their inventory. Hehe. Anyway great videos. Feel free to contact me for any info and maybe we can do a video together. Diesel Kiki... omg that brings back memories..!! Owners manual & service booklet in 28 yrs old car? That seals the deal for me... it's a done deal! This car looks like has been well maintained in its whole life. Super rare nowadays.. together with it's sedan version - the Lancer F. I'd repaint it silver, and keep the rest of the car as it is. The side mirror looks like period correct accessories - or might be the original fitment! Soooo excited to see this!!

Get it, Chris! My dad had the pre-facelift model (with a WAC plate) in a really nice condition up until 2001 when he sold it off to a young neighbor of ours, to make space for my mom's then-new Wira. Long story short, he regretted selling it to that neighbor... Would be nice to see this car done up back to its former glory.

Wow, the car starts on a dime after years (presumably) of sitting with only little taps on the gas and no choke at all. Was contemplating to get this exact car late 2019 or early 2020, but I had my hands full with a 1982 Civic, which sadly doesn't drive anymore. From what I can see, this Colt is def upgrade from that Civic, a tach, working air con, and not to mention the primitive VTEC, which Civics didn't even have at 1983. Cheers Chris, thanks for the vid making me fantasize a what if world if I got the Colt back in 2019. If I did, then this video wouldn't be here ;)

the body was amazing, it saved my life. it was rolled twice on the side and stopped by the roadside longkang..the price to pay when you touge in wet roads..haihss. missed those 2nd gear lever. Power and Economy. when you drive in 4th gear + Eco, as if you are on 5th gear. just shift the lever from Eco to Power, it gives you some kick as if you are on 4th gear. i think this lever sort of that it enables you to change the final drive gear of the transmission.

My dad used to have a mitsubishi Tredia 1.4 which got an awesome bumper. The bumper got stolen just a few months he got the car. Anyway, i love the 1.4 engine which is super reliable

Amazing car! I have a grey 1982 Mitsubishi Colt GLX. Very reliable and easy to work on. Unfortunately parts are very hard to find.

What a classic....its damn hard to see one on the roads in the klang valley. Restoring it will be a massive massive problem esp with sourcing trim parts. nevertheless...the fun is in the hunt, aye ? :) btw, does it share any engine parts with the Saga Orion ?

I've not seen one on the road in years! Thankfully the trim bits all seem to be intact, except for that broken area on the dash, but I can sort that with a Single DIN player easily. But you're definitely right, this one would be a big challenge 😀

Chris bro, I think in order to select the “power shift” you need to depress the clutch .I’m guessing it as it should be mechanically engaging another lower gear ratio for 1 - 4.

This car was amazing for the average consumer in the 80s. These cars are the reason why Japanese manufacturers understand what consumer wants. Just imagine this car had so many toys to play with . Even came with radio as standard! I remember those british leyland cars like Marinas and Vauxhall Vivas everything extra must be paid for 💀. And Leyland were still using engines from the 50s and 60s disguise with pretentious gizmos.

You should definitely buy it as a complement to the Galant. So you'll have a Galant, a "Lancer", and a Colt.

The two gear levers amused me when I was a kid, and pestered my dad to get it. Never really knew what it really was for back then. Chris, how much more power are you able to derive from the engine back in the 80s with the options for power and eco modes?

Such an awesome bit of tech from 40yrs ago!! I don't think it would feel like a turbo just kicked in though, but from what I recall from the Mitsu Cordia, there was definitely a discernible difference between the 2 modes 😀

Ah yes Mitsubishi were the most innovative among the Japanese manufacturers. Power mode may seem pointless now but back then people try to get more power from the 4 speed box. I remember Volvo Amazon my uncle had came with an overdrive function. And same goes with this Power Mode for the Colt. I remember a friend told me it gives you a power of 8 gears or something ridicolous hahahahha. But yeah this all went away when 5 speed boxes became common place. This era Colt is probably my favourite Mitsubishi🙂🙂🙂🙂

Nah, the powershift in this car is not the same as a 4x4's 4WD High & Low shifter, if that's what you're referring to bro 🙏🏽😊

Actual road tax is rm80 a year, on the old photostat reg card it was before the revision some years ago 😊

I thought that only Mitsubishi Tredia has that power-economy shifter on the side of 4-speed manual... some old timers claimed that this type of manual transmission have at least "8 speed ratio" before everyone else.. Is that just hot air or it has some truth?

Chris, to engage the power and economy stick, you still need to press the clutch to move it to the either position just like the gears but without need of moving speed.

I would never do that, u shld know me better, I'd be keeping everything OEM that comes with the car bud 😊 My friend who bought my KE30 found a replacement OEM gearknob for the car online, u can try there. Do some of ur own hunting, it's fun 😉

Bro that mileage is oddly low... Looks like they tapped it to make the mileage lower. Even my Nissan latio from 07' has done 220k++ mileage already😂😂😂
