Amazing presentation. I am a researcher and wanted to know more about Dr. Hughes' work. It was sad to find she passed away in June 2015 from cancer. As I thought she looked too young to retire, I could imagine that she was already diagnosed with cancer at the time of this presentation. Knowing this made her passionate sharing of information leading to healthy living priceless. RIP Ellen.

Since thre is no 1Factor 2Health, being verily a combination of a harmonious wholistic body, mind, spirit overall balance by psychic/mental conditioning of our precious human nature, is equally if not more important & not 100% 2diet ....for Man does not live by bread alone! ..... a cool composed, easy going, philosophical outlook, a cheerful relaxed, accepting attitude to life is more joyous than food centricity .... Iiving as a body mind complex!

This is a very good talk with lots of practical and useful info that we can apply daily to our own lives unlike may other talks I've seen on this channel. Most others were nothing more than over and hour of charts and graph and statistics that really have no practical daily use and turned out to be boring and and a waste of time. I do find it rude and annoying that people constantly interrupt with questions. If they would friggin wait I'm sure the questions will be answered at some point during the talk. If not right it down and ask it at the end when she's taking questions.

I already try to follow okinawa diet (lots of vegetables) and vegan diet (micronutrients food, no refined foods like sugar, oil, salt, no processed foods). Doing exercise after every meal and some weight training with cheap door frame pull up bar to help lower blood sugar. Planning on doing more strenuous exercise that can use up glycogen reserve storage in liver/muscles. I learned a lot of new health tips for old people like me.

Cognitive Psycho Therapy is the best solution. Just become aware what your mind is up to, and when facing challenge convince yourself that challenge is given to you so that you can use it as an opportunity to grow. Also, constantly remind yourself that the universal force is there to you help you overcome any challenge you face. Each day, spend some time in solitude, and never by afraid to cry alone while asking for help from within. Learn constantly and carefully evaluate and apply your learning to improve your life.

1:14:00 ten recommendations to promote healthy aging. Watched this in January 2020. Amazing. I haven’t found anything in the literature on aging over the past decade that significantly builds on what was presented in this video 10 years ago.

I agree with more leaves fewer seeds. For more micronutrients, my priority food are sprout, green leaf, seaweed, herb, mushroom. For more micronutrients, seeds/nuts, fermented plant food. For more protein, legumes. Excess protein is bad for health and we can thrive on very little protein like the african countries. For omega 3 fat, fish oil, algae oil, flax/chia powder, purslane. For more carb, fruit vegetable, fruit, roots, grain. If I eat fruit, I make sure I exercise to avoid triglycerides.

great video~TY 4 psting! This is So true and right on. I through genetics, eating little, being active but no exercise regime, if I want to eat an entire cake once a year I will not deprive myself. I have a nice life and am blessed with good health, loving family and friends, and a great husband, etc. Every time I tell people I'm 39 EVERY one of them says no way you're close to 39 or ask to prove it by leting them see my DL! Guess I'm lucky but I take nothing for granted. I appreciate the video.

I observe everyday people everywhere having difficulties and consequently at this time accepting power over over their unique affairs, you are not going to be in a position to finally become empowered when you find yourself not wishing to make the choice that sets you totally free. The simple truth is the decisions we establish are positively or perhaps unfavourably reinforcing our behaviour and thus our everyday life.

Many people who chronically oversleep do it due to either on ongoing illness, disability, or something that prevents them from having an active lifestyle so obviously they will have a higher mortality rate.

My aunt here in the uk was a alcoholic most of her life and use go to bed at night with a bar of chocolate,she lived to 94 , she died has a result of her injuries after being hit by a bus, however She did play golf a lot and socialized at the club, wonder if this contributed to her longevity

In addition to nutrition, exercise and lifestyle, Dr Hughes could learn a lot by researching bio-identical hormone replacement methods for anti-aging benefits.

The brain is the most metabolically active "tissue." 2% of body weight 20% (or more) of daily calorie requirements.

yes, but you cannot increase the energy expenditure with it, you can burn more if you move and even gain muscles to burn more

Andrew Weil is my hero when it comes to this stuff. I love how balanced he is with conventional medicine and homeopathy. Unfortunately I think he's way ahead of his time.

“Vegan” is probably too vague a term. Could be all processed vs Whole Foods. I’m putting my money on whole food plants vegan.

She had all the correct info 11 years ago . The only thing she is incorrect on is hormones. If you follow her plan along with hrt. If you are healthy. You will remain healthy longer. You need testosterone to build muscle. Her strategy is correct . It works.

After seeing a periodontist for years and doing the flossing and cleaning they recommended my husband showed up at a regularly scheduled visit after just one month on the ketogenic diet. They were astounded at the condition of his mouth and gums. They even admitted to knowing that such a change in diet is great for dental health. Seems to me it’s inflammation (from sugar and carbohydrate) that leads to heart disease, not whether you floss your teeth or not.

48:57 Periodontal disease is a SYMPTOM of inflammation (i.e. hyperinsulinemia) NOT the cause. Resolve the root issue (too many carbs) and periodontal problems and cavities dissipate.

What’s weird is that she gives the name of the Harvard researcher on resveratrol, as well as the name of his company producing resveratrol products AND the name of the pharmaceutical company which was buying him out, BUT she wouldn’t name the original researcher regarding the blue zones, who is very well-known, Dan Buettner? Gotta wonder where UCSF is getting their donor money from.

Daily, I go over list of foods with vit a to zinc to be sure I get my micronutrients from real food (unrefined, unprocessed, containing fiber/water) and not rely on vitamin tablets which are missing thousands of micronutrients. I keep animal foods like meat, dairy, egg, seafood to a minimum or zero bec these are bad for health. I take vit b12 supplement to get my vit b12. For vit d, sunlight or brands of white mushrooms with vit d listed on the nutrition label. I like to eat natto for vit k2.

@@dallysinghson5569 Probably safe to eat anchovies and or sardines about 2x a week for omega 3. The main weakness in the japanese diet is probably the salt which causes cancer like stomach cancer and also causes strokes. Fermented foods like fermented vegetables and smoked foods like bonito are also linked to cancer.
