This video is about what you can try to test when your UE Megaboom is not charging - Make a test lead tool & Problem solving. We test the battery, try different solutions like freezing the UE Megaboom and work out how to see if teh actual charge board is working.

I have been wrestling with a non charging UE Megaboom for 2 years. Finally fixed it!! The charger they give you is too short and doesn't make proper contact. Trim back the surround a couple of millimetres with a scalpel. Fixed!!!!

Sometimes the charger cables get mixed up and the cable may not be the original one which was designed to fit .

Well further feedback - overnight on the charger and charge light still blinking in am. So left it on - I went out and by return late that night charge light solid. Just checked and (after I paired it again) now sitting at 100%. Yay. Have subsc to you for vid to replace batt as required. Cheers.

That’s great news. I think the battery charge system in these is a bit hit and miss . Hope it stays working now . That charge cable adapter I made does show you if current is going into the unit so you can actually monitor power going into the battery . I think sometimes these units show they are charging even when they are not. The fact that it says 100% now on yours does mean power did go into it .

Thanks for this video . I fixed my Megaboom. Before change the board, check if the battery contact are good, I just clean those contacts with a contact spray and a electric toothbrush and now all is ok 😁

Well done. The test tool in this video would also show that the charge contacts are working properly ( as you can see current going into the Megaboom).

Easy fix, just make sure you use the charging cord that came with the speaker and pair it with a USB adapter that is at least 11 watts and puts out 2.5 amps of charging current, Anker among others make USB adapters that sense charging current requirements. The led should be blinking fast when it is charging and the charging LED will be solid white when fully charged. Charging time is approximately 2 and a half hours, do not leave the speaker charging too long or you can over charge your speaker. You cannot just use any old charging cable or adapter for this speaker; it has to be compatible or you will get a fake charge which will drain in an hour. I hope this helps.

Not really sure if that’s the easy fix people are looking for . Many have the correct UE Megaboom charger and cable and are having charging problems . If there is a charge board fault, no charger will charge it .

Oh my goodness. I can’t believe it. Last ditch effort was 1 hour in the freezer, then plugged it in and it came alive with msg ‘critical battery’. And the speaker is working again.

Susan, Although the freezer trick worked , there is a possibility that the battery is on its way out . Remember that the battery life is affected by age more than the number of uses it has had . If it continues to fault , you may need a replacement battery. Yes Re Aussie accent from Hughenden in the middle of Queensland.

Hubby from Winton so I know Hughenden. Yes batt sitting on 10% and overnight too. Bummer. Have to educate myself on replacing battery or find someone knowledgeable close by. Cheers.

@@susanwalsh3878 If you follow my other video you can see how the battery is changed . It is not difficult but you have to be careful not to break the small circuit board on the sides . The video shows what to do to prevent breaking it.

Thanks for putting this video up. My wife's Megaboom 2 is locked on 30% charge, and works with the charge cable in, but no charge light shows and the charge level is static. I'd say it's the charging circuit, wouldn't you? I hope my Megaboom 3 is a bit better.

Did you manage to make the test tool ? That is one of the only ways I could figure out if the thing was actually charging . Sometimes it is a faulty battery that won’t charge .

The white led light on mega boom flashes but when I take it off it’s still red indicating it needs to be charged

If the white led flashes and you have had it in for a long time , either the charge is not going into the battery or the battery could be faulty . The only real way to check if it is charging is make the tester cord I have in my video and use a multimeter to check if any current is going in . The charge circuit on these is a bit hit and miss. Good luck .

Do a hard reset by holding the power and volume down button until the charging light stops flashing. Wait 30 seconds or so, un-plug, and then plug back in the USB plug. Turn the speaker on again, and re-pair it with your device. This happens to mine all the time and is the only thing that fixes it, even if only temporarily.

It's nearly impossible to find charging boards for these, but you can bypass the charging board w a stripped USB cable spliced into the battery line.

That's the lady in the speaker trying to pull your leg. Don't believe her. I would make the charge test circuit in my video and see if current is actually going into the UE megaboom (or UE boom) . If there is no current going in (even with the flashing LED) it will show when you make the tester. I would consider a battery change.

My UE MEGABOOM would appear to be dead. Not charging, not charging with another’s cable that is working, not responding to factory re-set. Obviously unable to turn on. Was working 7 days ago w 80% battery. Any suggestions other than new one? Your accent sounds Aussie?

Thanks man. Yes you can buy the charge boards off some ebay sellers . I think they buy broken units and sell them as parts . Problem is that the boards are expensive . I would recommend buying a broken on which doesn’t have the symptom of a faulty charge board . Hopefully from my tips you can work out how to buy one . For example , look for one with for example with physical damage or even one that flashes charge and has a faulty battery etc. Good luck and please ask if you need any help.

Mine is not charging, period. It was fully charged one day, and when I was trying to use it, it’s saying low battery please charge. Like wth! There’s no flashing white light when charging either.

Sia Make the charge test lead to see if any current is going into your Megaboom. Often no current is going in and that is why it won’t top up .

Watched video where a gentleman found a faulty capacitor and removed it and the battery started charging fine. Ever seen that one or tried that on the megablaster? he preformed that surgery on a wonderboom.thanks

Have not seen that situation. The faulty charge boards that I have encountered all have a lot of micro circuitry so I didn’t bother trying to fault find that part .

Hi there, I’m in travel, don’t have any tools with me, the UE shows light on the off/on button, but it does not react and do not connect to BT, I tried to push the BT button , no response Any idea what else can be done ? Thanks

Is try the reset: Press volume minus and the power button for six seconds and that resets back to factory settings so hopefully that may get your BT back working .

@@sarashekel1657 If you cannot fix it at all, don’t throw it away as someone will buy it for parts . I think you may need to disassemble it when you get back from your travels . I have seen some that come alive again after changing the internal battery and resetting them .

I’ve only taken parts from old broken units . I have never found new replacement parts but now and then I see eBay sellers selling dismantled units . Still cheaper to buy a broken one as long as you assess what is wrong with the broken one so you know the charge port is not faulty .

Mine only flashes the white led light twice then nothing. I think it’s not even charging 🤷🏽‍♂️

I think the theory behind the white led Indictator is good but when there is a charging fault, the led tells you false information. The test lead set up with a multimeter is a better way to actually see if it is charging. If your unit is old, it may be a battery problem but remember that the top board sometimes can become faulty as well. Good luck .

When I made my videos I had about 4 Megabooms disassembled so I could swap out parts and batteries. The charging test circuit will help you determine if any charge is actually going into the battery. Most of the time it I a faulty battery because the batteries actually stop working after a certain time. Lithium batteries die with age . I did find some Megabooms where the charge board was the problem because even a new battery wouldn’t charge. This charge board problem was less common than a faulty battery. I have Megaboom 3 and it's really weird as it works when USB cable is plugged in, so it means the current is passing through but it doesn't charge the battery (or it simply won't work off it as it actually says 100% charged on the app). I bought a new battery and nothing changed..

Possibly a faulty charge board . Very frustrating. Try making the test lead I have in my video and that will show it current is going into the battery .

@@willc2358 Hello , The only way I’ve bypassed that Board was to take the battery out and charge it on a lithium ion charger . You could do that to bypass the charge board but you would need a dedicated charger or need to set up a battery management pcb . That would work but you would need to attach the board to sprayed cells and that would not fit into the Megaboom.

Does the white led flash when you charge it ? If you can measure the voltage I assume you have a multimeter. Can you make the test charge lead I show in my video ? That will show if the battery is actually charging. When you press the buttons to check power , does the voice say anything ?

See if you can make up the charge test tool and then you can actually see if charge is going into the unit . If faulty , look for a broken parts donor . Make sure you suss out the donor symptoms not make sure that it doesn’t have the same fault before you buy it . Best of luck .

My Speaker will charge to 100% but when it gets to 70% it starts saying that I need to recharge the Speaker and then it Shuts off. What can I do to prevent it from charging

The whole percentage thing is a bit inaccurate. As the battery gets older , it starts to die just because of age . It is sort of like the battery in your mobile phone . You will notice it will not charge and last as long . I would consider changing the battery if the short charge life bothers you . The percentage charge you hear is not accurate .

Do you mean the part that plugs into the wall? If so you can use any USB charger but make sure if it is a Megaboom that it has enough Power or it will charging constantly and it never fully charges with some weaker chargers .

I don’t think it is the cable. It is either the battery is dying or the charge board is faulty . Most likely the battery though . Do you have a multimeter ? That will help a lot . Let me know .

If you find that it still doesn’t charge or keeps saying “40 percent charge”, if you feel confident , take the battery out and put it back in to see if it corrects the problem. Follow my tips on taking it apart so you don’t break anything . Let me know how you go .

If the unit is older than 3 years , it maybe the battery . If you make the charge indicator you can tell if any charge is going into the unit when I charge light flashes . Best to check if it is taking a charge first .

@@JokeDeFool Well done. Sometimes you need a charger with high power capacity . I once bought an expensive boom box off eBay listed as not working. I took it all apart and did many tests and couldn’t find the problem. I eventually gave up and put that down to experience. One day I connected it to a lab power supply and it all worked! The seller had mixed up the power pack and had the wrong one with it . I still have that huge boom box.

@@Dentinvent honey i just think that chargers just keep getting mixed up like i got some chargers for my samsung a 50 but it just was not working . I was Worried cause i did not want any trouble then one day i took my bros charger and it just works so i was thinking are all those 6 chargers fake or just not working but am still happy it worked

You sound slightly annoyed . Rightly so . They do seem to have problems but make sure you research before you get another brand as that may also have problems . I think many problems are because they have internal rechargeable batteries as opposed to plug in the wall units which don’t have the battery charge problems .
