You think that it has to happen at one point. But he keeps coming back, having reached new heights, seemingly with ease. So your mind accepts it. It's Ueli. He'll come back. Then on a Sunday morning you get up and the news that he died slaps you in the face. This is unexpected. But I have to remind myself, what does it matter if you live 40 or 80 years. It only matters if you can do what you desire and achieve what you dream of. 40 or 80 are just arbitrary numbers. I will try to make peace with this now. My heart goes out to his family. Bye Ueli.

40 and 80 are not arbitrary numbers. They represent years lived. Those numbers dictate whether you get to have children, grandchildren, whether you get to pass your knowledge onto the next generation, whether your parents have to bury their child (if they even have a body..). The reality is that alpine mountaineering is a dangerous and selfish sport that should only be undertaken by those who know and accept the risks. Don't sugarcoat it. This guy died way before his time trying to climb up and down a mountain.
