Holly is a champion boxer with a scary 33-2-3 record and held the belts in 3 weight divisions at the same time. Also, a champion amateur kickboxer and trained in karate as well. She is taller, faster on her feet, every bit as strong, longer legs with a wide variety of kicks, a 4" reach advantage, and throws combos with fists as well as legs. Ronda said in Bleacher Report that Holly will be the toughest she's ever fought in her career and she is right. It is going to be a hell of a fight.

I don't know if anybody else noticed how Holly took that simple psychological trick to look more dominate, during the handshake. Her two arm shake, with left arm covering Rondas right arm, made all the difference if you ask me. Add the Rondas stare down after the shake to it, and you kind of get the perspective of what happened after last night Holly's beating of Ronda. :D

Holly's one chance is completely avoiding being taken or held down, and dominating via jab, and in the later championship rounds perhaps, ending the fight with a rear leg roundhouse. Ronda should be a strong favorite, and I expect her to win in the first with swarming pressure combined with clinch, takedown, or judo techniques, and an easy transition to a dominant position once on the ground for a submission. Holly has to have precise distance control and a jarring, stiff jab. It's the best strategy, keeping the distance to avoid a takedown, and going for eye swelling, or a cut to affect vision, and winning on points or going for a crocop kick in the championship rounds when its least expected.

I actually like both these fighters, this will be a good fight!

The key to this fight is the southpaw jab for Holly, and left rear roundhouse kick *for Holm). Holm has superior striking experience which is huge in a Southpaw vs Orthodox striking match. The key is for the lankier fighter to stay out of range and establish a stiff jab, and half-step-back jab-parry skip jab, and lead hook counter over the opponents jab. The lead cross compliments the rear high kick if Ronda decides to circle away from the high kick taking away its power, she can run right into a lead cross. Basically establishing your lead hand dominance and maintaining the distance you can hit your opponent hard and take out the sting of your opponents jab A stiff punishing jab that is jarring and disrupts Ronda's rhythm or that cuts above the brow is very key in this fight. Of course then comes the sprawl, the pummeling in the clinch, and avoiding judo take-off in the clinch are all a must for repetitive practice. Ideal would be with men of a similar size and speed of top Greco-Roman and judo style mixing striking with level changes and take-downs and throws and clinches fresh on rotation. But minor distance and angle adjustments and a stiff jarring jab would go a very far way in being the first line of defense before the clinch which is very dangerous for Holly Holm. It goes without saying the limbs gotta be tight, and on opportune judo throws where sometimes the person being thrown is temporarily on top of the judo thrower, she needs to have practiced scrambling for position, and a standup. Wall-walks, fast standups after a take-down, and keeping the limbs in tight also increase the chances of survival against a top-notch grappler and judoka, and something JW camp will train. What is a bit untrainable is the speed and ferocity Ronda brings to the real match. The key might be in training ultra-high speed judo and wrestling without the strikes. Simple 1-2-3, rear roundhouse to the leg combinations will also be effective as half-step back 1-2's. Against the fence Holm needs to train to sprawl wide, and pummel, and if she's adequately strong, to turn Ronda around to get her back on the fence, where Holly should train landing various elbow techniques especially to effect vision. Additionally knowing JW's willingness to push the rule boundaries, a downward 12-6 elbow that comes sweeping in from the side in an arc should be trained and used if Ronda drops her head in elbow range for a takedown. 12-6 is an outlawed and dangerous technique for the reason of there being too much power and usually against the opponent's head, but people have found a legal technique in this sweeping/arc 12-6. Tapes of interest would be in studying long sprawl-and-brawl fighters. Jon Jones would certainly know all the tricks of the trade to fight long and against top-flight wrestlers. ________ For Ronda to win, she needs to pull her hands back to the guard on punches. If she gets sloppy with hand position, a hook or roundhouse could be lights out. At the same time, being the shorter fighter, she would need to pressure the action. She needs to overwhelm the jab, and establish an inside not out-fighting distance and use strikes to establish the clinch or a takedown. The most likely scenario is exactly this: Ronda using a swarmer boxing style to close the distance, get in clinch distance, send Holly flying with a judo throw, then ending the match with a submission. In the off chance that Holly can sprawl and brawl and avoid either being taken down or being held down all night, Ronda could be in trouble though I don't see Holly's take-down defense to be good enough for this. Just in case though, if I were Ronda I would be working a plan B in case Holly comes in with a masterful sprawl-and-brawl outfighting technique. Plan B would be against-the-fence clinch work where Ronda would also have the advantage. Finally, to be absolutely sure, you would need a plan C or some x-factor moves like a flying scissor leg takedown, or going for a heel-hook, etc. I see the fight going the way of Ronda Rousey by takedown and submission in the first minute or two of the first round. Holly has the tools, and you can't count her out when she has 2 of the best strategists in the MMA game and the best lanky anti-wrestler fighter in the men's LHW division (Jon Jones) giving her pointers, but the swarming speed, and the sudden shift of gravity and explosiveness of Ronda's clinch and judo game is just not something you can prepare for without years of experience. Once Holly goes flying, her compass will be off and while Ronda has holes in her striking game, landing a precise KO punch as a fast and powerful swarmer-puncher is throwing 1, or 2, or 3 punches before a clinch or a takedown is a low probability shot. Holly might make Ronda eat her 1-2 coming in, but then Holly will be taken down or thrown, and possibly quite easily. Holly's shot is going to be in a supremely trained sprawl, a jarring jab, and perfect distance control to continuously be in just that distance where only her jab can land with any serious effect. The jab has to be snappy and disruptive to balance and tempo.

I have a feeling that this fight will be a bit different than the past few .. I think it will go longer and possible even a couple of rounds. I do not know Holly well and i have never seen her fights but she appears to be intelligent and calculating and tough and physically strong and she is not just the typical jacked up pumped up fighter with little brains .. based on that I do not think she will get pinned any where near as fast as the others have as she may be able to do a much better job at blocking and avoiding it at least for a while.. I still do believe Ronda will prevail but I also believe Holly will surprise a lot of people and gain some respect in this community .. Ronda for the win But Holly will make her presence Felt, hold her own and deliver a decent and classy fight! My humble prediction :)

Should be a really good fight. Holly is a great striker which is something that Ronda has been working on. However Ronda owns the ground game entirely. I see nothing but a Rousey win via submission having been forced to bring it to ground by Holly's superior striking. On a selfish note, they are two beautiful woman and I hope they keep the damage to a minimum :)
