@Parl Kilkington Yeah, right, even though I'm English I live in the north and it influenced our dialect a lot too, for example when speaking we say "wae yae" instead of "with your" even though the written language is standardized I feel closer culturally to Scots than those fuckers on Downing Street

Always a beautiful thing to hear one's mother tongue, no matter where you are in the world. Indigenous languages need to be preserved, not faded away for languages like English. Our mother tongues are a part of our histories, without them we cannot fully exist.

The worst crime the British "empire" committed on Irish soil was the death of one of the oldest languages in the world.They knew that the one true way to enslave a people is to force them to speak a foriegn language(speaking Irish in public was a death sentence not too long ago).I only can hope that the Irish language can find a way back because it is a rare gem in the Irish treasure that is our island.....the whole of our island including our brothers and sisters still under tyranny in the north.Tiocfaidh ar la

@50nuccio
@50nuccio 7 жыл бұрын
English belongs to the Germanic branch of the IE tree, no doubt. But the English we know isn't that old. It's a mash-up of Old English (TRULY a Germanic lang.) and French (after the Norman Conquest) with lots of Latin loanwords (and loanwords from other languages). Add in the "great vowel shift" in the 1400's -- why our vowels are pronounces so differently from almost all other European languages -- and you get Modern English, from about 1500 to today. Interestingly enough, the more basic the things you talk about (blood, house, father, love, life, death, fight) the more Germanic the vocabulary -- the more "artistic" or "scientific" the conversation, the more French, Latin, Greek come into play.

The magnificent creep I'm half south -west European Dutch/Frisian But I'm born in The Hague And half South American creol which is black The real first black people So I'm the purest from of white and black in one body However the Irish where once Gaelic people Invaded by the normans in the 5th century They were more considered as outsiders They are Gaelic/normans they are white. However just like all the Germanic tribes Very isolated .. but they are white. I am a real Rhine land bastard Hitler would call me that hehehe A real half blood the abomination of Europa So I can tell if certain cultures struggle like me Against the full blood white And Ireland isn't much different As Scotland and the Netherlands Same struggle same old wars For independence against so many nations So you were considered white But you were also considered as the weak barbarians. Which means outsider You see Europeans thrive on the conquest of other tribes if the bigger neighbor Thinks that you weak or easy to be controlled They will march their armies However they were wrong they thought they the smaller nations were weak.. So the Irish are white But they are outsiders different cultures All Europeans are basically white So from a European perspective I consider the Irish white

So Irish (in Irish) is called gaeilge. So basically it’s in the same language family as scots-Gaelic and manx (from the Isle of Man). Often times it’s called “Gaelic” but that’s not entirely accurate. There are few communities that speak Irish as a primary language and most Irish people learn it in school (like Conor)

@@javiermelendez1893 it is but hating on English people for the actions of their government is madness. For Irish people today it is up to us to Educate ourselves when it comes to learning our native tongue. Here in the north of Ireland there are 29 Irish medium schools and also a large number of Irish medium schools which are attached to English medium schools. I know from personal experience they do real well. It's crazy how quickly children become fluent in Irish and also because they gain great listening skills they then go on to pick up a third language. For me personally it's not political but a part of our culture I really wanted to get back. I am also learning to play the Bodhran (drum ) and hope to pick up the Uileann pipes in the future too.

@@TheLouisianan I was born in Kazakhstan which was a Federal Republic within the Soviet Union. Now it is an independent state, with Kazakh as it's national language. Most ethnic Kazakhs in urban areas cannot speak Kazakh properly and Russian is definitely the most used language outside of official government functions. We are talking about one language which is supposed to be the native language of the majority ethnic group, with full Kazakh language school curricula. Dagestan on the other hand is an autonomous republic within Russia. Avar is a minority language not just in Russia but within Dagestan as well. It is one of many languages native to Dagestan, where Russian is the lingua franca. In most schools education in local languages spoken by some thousand people is limited or not even available. That's even true for languages like Tatar with millions of speakers. Minority ethnic groups form approximately 20% of Russian population but 97% of pupils attend Russian language only schools.

I hope the Irish people can reclaim their language and culture. No matter what the haters say, Conor is an Irish icon.

@@TheMokkii That was a disgusting action for sure. Now I'm not a religious person but I can't but think about the bible. Jesus Christ took as his first disciple a criminal. Then when the mob wanted to stone Mary Magdalene he asked that he who was without sin to cast the first stone. I assure you that anyone you admire, your father or grandfather, they are not without sin. Sorry for the sermon. Peace

The language is officially called "Irish" in the English language, and "Gaeilge" in the Irish language. It is a Celtic language and Celtic languages are divided into two groups: Gaelic or Goidelic: comprising the Scottish "Gaidhlig", Irish (Gaeilge) and Manx (Gailck) - the latter being from the Isle of Man.

Actually Goidelic are the Gaelic languages. Brythonic is Welsh Cornish and Breton. Manx, Irish Gaelic and Scottish Gaelic, are Goidelic. Theres also extinct continental versions of the languages.
