@@aclassicadventure a 1070 is still decent, I use one. Considering the gains are often in the 1-digit percent range on high end GPUs, you probably wouldn't see a notable difference anyway. Do you know the exact manufacturer/model of 1070? There might be overclocking headroom (Example: ASUS ROG STRIX 1070)

I turned on 4G decoding and resize bar but then the system doesnt boot into windows, it goes into bios. I think the reason might be that you need to have your storage drives be in GPT format not MBR.

@@mab2187 Converting the partition standard of your entire disk can take awhile and risk data loss. I think the best is to back up your data, then format your drive and reinstall Windows. Something you have to keep in mind is that your need your motherboard needs to support UEFI and not be set to “legacy” mode. Without using a workaround, “legacy” bios does not support Windows GPT drives.

Yes, but there is also a small pitfall, resizable bar needs CSM to be turned off, this small compatibility layer provides support for old fashion API used by some apps like open source bootloaders, some text mode tools and so one.

I enabled Resizable BAR thru bios on my 1 year old PC, w RTX 3070 / 3900X , I got that ~10 or more FPS increase paired wth never ending blue screens every few minutes. Ended up turning it back off and undervolting my way to happiness

Usually Resizable bar does give you an increase in fps but only for usually for recent titles but for older titles you can actually lose performance

Older Hard Drives, such as all the ones in my computer because I've had it for over 7years, will have an old Partition type called MBR, which isn't compatible with a setting needed to be turned on when using Resizable Bar. Thus, you will need to re-partition your OS Drive, which involves wiping the Drive to do so. Meaning to gain a little bit more FPS I gotta delete my Windows and re-install it and all my main software.... fun.

ye but I've read this breaks some files in windows, which stops it from working at all. which is why you wipe the drive before changing the partition.

Gotta have special drivers, though, right? And if so, those drivers even let it work on RX500 series and RX400 series according to some users. I couldn't get it to work on my RX480 8GB, but some people claimed to get SAM to work on theirs.

It just depends what you have, until recently I used a 12 year old at the time amd phenom ii x6 1055t, a great six core processor that I got for like 40€, together with 8gb of old hyperX ddr3 ram and an old am3 motherboard that I already had, also I had a gtx 950 2gb from msi that I got for about 35€ a few months before. It couldn't run newer triple A titles, but it ran everything older than 2018 really really well, it definatly helped that I had a 1440x900 monitor though. But for everyday tasks, that system was really responsive and genuinly fast.

I don't think my MSI z370-a bios has that option. Idk if a 1080 supports it anyways, the only thing with GPU memory is above 4G decoding. When I turn that on windows still works but my bios no longer shows display until I reset the bios. Edit: it was my 1080 wasn't patched it is now and the bios splash displays now

It should also be noted that at least with Nvidia, this feature is only enabled per game and it is not enabled for most games, you can change this with the Nvidia profile inspector

Fun fact, for amd cards before the 5000 series you can turn on the smart access memory on the motherboard and to enable it on the GPU you can simply go to the windows registry (I suggest to watch a video) and change a value to use S.A.M. on unsupported GPUs.

@@thisfeatureisbadyou need to update your motherboard bios. I had no SAM before update then only through update was i able to get it. I had ryzen 2600 when i update to the latest bios. Those people that said that you need 5xxx series are liers even i got fooled. I got b450m mortar titanium.

It also depends on cpu and chipset support. I have a 5500xt plugged into a B550 board. Option doesn't exist. It's okay, I can still game at max settings at FHD as long as RT isn't required.

Another setting that can speed up your computer: turning off Windows Defender's real time protection. In some cases having it turned on keeps CPU utilization at 100% all the time

To be noted thhis only works with the following parts combinations: AMD CPU + AMD GPU Intel CPU + nVidia GPU for the rest it seems to bluescreen a ton, for example my rig with a R7 2700X and RTX2060 will bluescreen 2-3 times a day with that option enabled

Well.... Resizeable bar or Simultaneous Access Memory for AMD could increase your performance. But at best, you only get 1-2% better performance. And that even only on a handful of newer titles.
