I am originally from Nigeria currently living in America . I remember going to visit my aunt who sold tomatoes in the market as a child ,in Nigeria and seeing the MOUNTAIN of spoilt produce that was thrown away every evening !! I have a friend who has a family farm here in the US .The government subsidizes agriculture in the tune of billions (USDA) because most Western countries recognize that food insecurity is a national security issue! They buys trillions of tons of produce from farmers which is stored ! African governments should be investing in Agriculture .They have taken loans from the World Bank for agriculture and the money ended up in private bank accounts ! Freeze drying is known in Africa as powered milk is the most commonly used milk on the African continent , but all the popular brands are imported mostly from Holland!..

Great idea, from those two people. It's people like those you need to grab to help with development. Not everything is found in a book. It's time we start to believe in our good people because no foreigner will know about tropical fruits. Throwing away animal skin, what, are they mad and people want shoes. Thanks to both of you.

The PERFECT central location of Uganda in the emerging East African Community (EAC) is a goldmine for OUR people in the diaspora. They should pool their monies and come over and invest in all these business opportunities. The sky is the limit to supply the entire Great Lakes region, the Middle East and the rest of Southern Africa.

The biggest deterrent to investing in Uganda is the corruption. You never know what "enough" money will be when you factor in all the hands trying to grab it. Trying to rent a location to conduct business is hard enough, as soon they hear an accent the price doubles or triples. Most are turned off about doing business.

This is such a rich and insightful video. I have a question please as regards to farming and finding export distribution channels. How does one start? Where can we get contacts from. Any insights will be much appreciated 🙏🏾

There is a totally different mindset about business in Uganda. After three years of living here I always wondered why the shops and vendors never had change early in the morning when I preferred doing my shopping, it finally occured to me that they used that money made the previous day to eat and now need to make money for dinner today. It blows my mind the way they think of business here. Using a hoe to farm is enough to feed you for today.

All this is great info but we need govt support. Fresh food/ fruit etc is the healthiest. I know alot of Ugandans can not do business in their own country due to limited income and high govt taxes mbu efris. Thank you ug connect for great work.

This tribal division is a killer. They would prefer to go and clean in another land or die on a journey. The government must do more. Many other countries toss tribalism away long ago because they want to live better and longer. This also stops people investing because the tribal fight is too. hard. Keep opening their eyes guys.

Workers must be paid more so that they can increase their purchasing power. Export, but markets and change for all sorts of reasons. Yes I am elderly but through my writings I am hoping that others will take note and do it.

Exactly ! The cost and instability of electricity supply makes it cheaper to import many things like canned produce and powered milk !!
