I’d say his flare and the fact he didn’t harm the guy who barely made it off the rope were pure luck. Fly like that and you’ll have an accident in no time.

Buddy picked girlfriend & I up in Jet Ranger, and everything was perfect cruising along the grass strip about ten feet up, then he went full collect, and I just about destroyed entire cockpit from the G force my brain said was over limit. You Ok Phil, he goes,, all I could do when leveled off was see if I wrecked anything grabbing at anything in full out panic. That could have gone badly when adrenalin kicks in. Don't do that.. I had no idea twin 400hp were that powerful. Cheers

Incorrect. This was not a VRS situation. This was a descent with power. His tail wheel striking the ground shows he had too much momentum and nearly not enough power to arrest the descent. This is not the same thing as a vortex ring state. VRS occurs when you are descending nearly vertically into your own turbulent rotorwash which results in a condition similar to that of a stall on a fixed wing aircraft. Recovery is to reduce collective and push forward and fly out of the turbulent air. In this video his downward and forward momentum increases the power needed to arrest the descent, and more and more power is needed and used to correct the descent, eventually you run out of collective and the helicopter comes out of the air "with power" hence the term, "descent with power" and why it and vortex ring state are NOT the same thing.

@@McGregor43 military uses blanks and has people shooting at each other all the time. It’s complete safe when it’s got a BFA and blanks
