I'm not going to flat out say that this repeater is yet completely legal, but I would feel ok actually putting it on the air.
I also didn't emphasize in the video enough the fact that the signalling I showed off on the Maxtrac 300 does require an additional option board which is relatively rare.

When our Highway Patrol went to P25 Trunking they had a massive amount of UHF CDM 1250/1550s that were used as remote receivers for the old low band system. The radio techs, also hams, put up UHF HAM repeaters all over the place to repurpose them! They already had duplexers, hardline, controllers and of course 75 tower sites to choose from!

If you have a later version of the ADS-SR1 (revision N or O), you can use ##751 to have it only play a CW ID when the repeater is active, plus a clean-up ID with ##803 (I believe that you have to set both the CW ID timer and the CW ID Auto-Response timer to make this work). I have experimented with both of these, and they work great, except for that fact that the ADS-SR1 transmits for about half a second when you let go of the PTT (or after however long you have the VOX timeout timer set for), even if you have it set to no courtesy tone.

Very good workup , you have done your research very well. and i love your theory. On the flip side. the question is. did you design this to be full remote control? in other words, could you also send DTMF to the receiver and bring the repeater back online? might be a stupid question but you didn't demonstrate that in the video. I would assume the call alert could also be use to toggle the switch to enable. again this might be a stupid question but since this is a custom build. i was just curious.

Just saw the video and my expectations were exactly the same.. waiting to the transmitter to be brought back online just the same waynit was disabled..

Hi, I actually have an old motorola repeter with 2 x gm350 radios and a rick controller. My tx radio keeps getting stuck in transmit even though the rx radio is not receiving. I either have to plug out the repeter or else turn the rick off and back on again. Do you have any info regarding this issue? Iv asked lots of people but no joy 😕

I want to build a uhf repeater out of tyt9000, cuz they are cheap, and have stun kill revive features, as well as pin outs for it, what should i get? other than uhf antenna, diplexer, cable etc? is a rick box needed? im new to building repeaters but not new to radios.

So .. Being able to turn off on air is better then nothing . So the Moto call option " does the radio have a dtmf decoder in it that is set up in programing in dos ? That's so cool didn't know that about these radios . I have a Rick I don't use. I didn't know about call alert does the radio have it's own call alert dtmf code ? Wow !

Is the rick capable of controlling a link radio as well as a repeater? We have one of those and need it to make a linkable repeater.

Quick question, I have 2 gm300s set up as a repeater with a jumper cable. I run 2 antennas, one for the tx and one for the rx. I'm thinking of getting a duplexer. Do I need to have a repeater controller? Or can I just add the duplexer to my gm300s after it's been tuned to the correct frequency?
@KennethFinnegan
@KennethFinnegan 6 жыл бұрын
+Jeremy Cook the controller and the duplexer are two different issues. The duplexer let's you go to a single feedline and antenna for your specific frequencies. A controller is required regardless of your antenna system if your repeater is for a service that requires automatic ID and control.

well most duplexers require aleast 25watts to pass thru without losing most your rf and my request is only 30watts above the limit the terrain forces me to it id rather run less the heat issue ain't a deal really like 80+ is ive already added additional height to my towers which helped tremendously the elevation on the ground 767ft above sea level the tower base is 70ft plus my 25ft pushup mast added really helped out a ton but I wanna duplexed repeater I ran my 50 watt simplex for years now with dual inputs crossbanded as well but the simplex only repeates on the UHF 462.7125 frequency

a decent duplexer shouldn't have much loss... running more power doesn't cause you to lose less RF.. Typical duplexers have between 1 and 1.5 db loss... so 20 watts input with 1.25 db loss in the duplexer will give you about 15-watts out of the duplexer... the same loss factor would give you 3.75 watts output with 5 watts on the input. Now I know you've mentioned you need more power.. however have you thought about your receive at all? Having a louder transmitter doesn't help your repeater hear better. I know quite a few repeaters that put out a lot of power, and they out talk their receive radius by a fair margin. Most of my repeaters that I have online run preamps so not only can they be heard, but they hear very well... and thus have a balanced system... If you can hear my repeater, it can hear you. I would not recommend running a preamp on a simple notch duplexer that the online in this video.. you would need a band pass/reject duplexer so you don't end up with desense, plus you don't want to overload your preamp with possible intermod or other unwanted signals.

Kenneth, this is wonderful. I am in the process of building almost the exact same setup, the difference being that I would like to interface my RICK into a Raspberry Pi in order to run the repeater as an AllStarLink node. Do you have any experience with this? I see a lot of custom built "RICK"s on the internet in order to do so but I haven't seen anyone use the Motorola RICK ( Part number HLN3333B) that you have there with it run into a RPi (I also have the same RICK and would like to use what I have rather than building another board that does essentially the same thing just to interface into the RPi). I would think you could wire an RPi via USB into the J4-ACC port on the RICK like you've done with the ADS SR1. Let me know what you think

I have a RICK and several kenwood tk880's and I am trying to build a repeater. I bought the ktc 19 cables and got everything working but can't seem to get audio to pass. RX received TX keys up but no sound when I test. Any help would be appreciated.

Kenneth Finnegan I have bee testing pins for several days and in the schematics and drawings it shows which ones are external mic input and audio out but I don't think it is a fixed out. If you know anyone that has attempted any kenwood mods and can link me up with would be great. I would really like to get working properly I've seen one on ebay that was already put together but was sold so I thought I could build one don't know if there is some programming that has to be done I was able to change settings to get cor from pins tried injecting audio source on mic input but getting nothing built a rj45 jack with 3.5 mm headphone jack to get audio from one radio to other but I won't be happy with that really want internal pins to do all the work and be able to use the hand held mic too so it can act as home base station too. Thank you for any help.

You need to move a jumper inside the TK880 to allow it to use the aux input from the accessory cable and not the mic from the front panel. If you’re still in need, message me back and I’ll check my notes and see which one it was. I built a repeater with three TK880s and it works great. One is the control radio on a different frequency so i can take down or change channels without interference. I’m also using an Elektra 2000 repeater controller. It’s also in the service manual for the TK880.

Can you do a video to elaborate why you don't like your cheap Chinese duplexer? I'm considering using one (as mentioned in your simplex repeater vid). Also, I see you like tubes and fermentation. You should build a Nixie tube fermentation timer!

It wouldn't take a whole video. They have poor isolation and terrible insertion loss (3dB).

Kenneth Finnegan I concur. After lots of research, I wouldn't consider anything less than a Sinclair duplexer. Sure I could build one, but it wouldn't be as good and would take me a month with two new babies in the house.

what would you charge me for a 80watt system or 50 watt minimum I'm one of those that always doubts anything under 25watts call me paranoid but id like a identical system as you did here setup on 462.7125mhz output and input 467.7125 both with DCS tone on 662N ?

Not often I like 100 watts which really don't interfere with anything way out in there rural country as me and the terrain kinda calls for the extra kick same with vhf stations most ham repeater are even 150+ watts or close

I was wondering that. What I noticed was the Call Alert displayed on the RX stays illuminated but I can't figure out if this needs a confirmation button press to clear on the radio front panel or if another Call Alert will still come through remotely. I was hoping that you could remotely toggle the Txer on and off remotely but it wasn't really that clear. Hopefully we will find out soon.
