Күн бұрынIn what is the largest internment of minorities since World War II, more than one million ethnic Uighur Muslims are locked up in specially constructed prisons located in China’s north-western region of Xinjiang. The Chinese government has consistently claimed the camps are voluntary re-education centers to counter extremism. But recently leaked documents, known as the "China Cables," tell a very different story. They show the camps are run as high security prisons and that inmates face torture and abuse. In recent years, thousands of Uighurs have fled into exile. DW correspondent Julia Hahn met a woman now living in Istanbul in Turkey who says she was trapped in a Chinese detention center for more than a year.

Chinese can do cruel thing to their own kind for example in revolution. They even prosecuted the falun gong practitioner. Chinese goverment dont want their people have different opinion with the governmnent. Over the decades the china goverment migrated the han chinese to uigurs region. More than 40 years ago, there is o ly about 5 % han cinese in the uigurs region ,now it is almost 50%. and the cina government prioritized the han cinese in every aspect of the life, kind of aparteid.

It actually predates a little bit back then in 2019, when HongKongers became concerned if they will share the same fate as the Uighurs. Especially when the local government, having visiting Xinjiang in 2018, started building an anti-terrorism complex in Hong Kong (where absolutely no such kind of thing has occurred despite the state's desperate smearing attempts). The similarity is just... uncanny. A law-conforming rally (later declared illegal) on the subject is held Dec 22, 2019 which I attended because I really wanted to learn more. (I left before it turned illegal)
