Haunting can be a good or bad thing. @jane19755 жыл бұрын
Person McPersonface In the UK we used to have regional television on channel 3 know as ITV or Independent Television, which was created in 1955. Each region of the UK had its own station franchise and some were bought out over the years by other franchises ( TVS took over from Southern in 1981 started broadcasting Jan 1982) or rebranded ( ATV became Central in 1982). Carlton Communications took over from London’s weekday franchise in 1992 but both it and Granada Television which served the North West of England merged together to create ITV plc in 2002 and by 2004 the franchise that had remained all lost their on air identity ( even the Carlton and Granada themselves) its just known as ITV in England now. UTV or Ulster Television in Northern Ireland is owned by them too but currently is still UTV on air, only STV or Scottish Television is not owned by ITV plc. OU or Open University is the only odd man out here as that is a separate company and not a region. It had an ident though because back then before the WWW that’s how students could find out about courses.
@TheParadiseNetwork14 жыл бұрын
Just like there is national television channels, some networks may be split by region, that is where you are in the country or which area affiliate you tune into at the time if more than one exists, e.g. North West, North East, etc. Scotland was considered a full region for BBC as was Wales. On ITV, Scotland comes under the STV Name and Northern Ireland is UTV. Most programmes on these channels were more or less the same however local programmes maybe broadcast on one channel in the network referred to as a regional broadcast, etc.
@gary35614 жыл бұрын
Nowadays regional television only really exists when newsreaders go to what they call "your region" if you live in and around London its the london news or london tonight. For Kent its meridian. Regional tv was brilliant i used to love watching the idents. TSW always was my favourite as a child i would spend summer holidays in cornwall. My mum rented a caravan down there. The programmes never really differed accept from maybe something ftom that area. Each region had its own studios. Meridian again for example were the Maidstone studios.
@darganx4 жыл бұрын
..but the video was uploaded in 2018, plus KZfaq started in 2005 - are you a time traveller? If so, I recommend you go further back to 1955, then you'll get the whole story on independent franchised television in the U.K., and how it broke up the monopoly of the BBC.
