Hi Jim, it was a combination of sensors one on a brake hub that should be black and smooth but was all pitted, under drivers seat engine management control cleaned all that, under bonnet electrics were all dirty so he cleaned that, so it was anyone of those but it's been great since we had it back no trouble at all 👍

Hi, I follow your videos. I believe these help people to take a decision on buying the right car. Could you please suggest to me which car (family size) is better for the ULEZ area within a budget of £5k?

A word to the wise in respect of the Disco 3 . These cars are very complex and reaching the age where even if they run ok now they will need careful maintenance and repairs on an ongoing basis. This is very expensive so if you are not mechanically minded and can carry out repairs yourself I would stay well away from them. Even independent garages will charge a fortune to carry our repairs on them and don’t even think of using main dealers . If you do decide to buy one make sure you have a few grand tucked away to cover any issues. Main problems with older LR’3’s are air suspension and compressor problems, prop shaft bearings, oil pump casings self destructing , destroying the engine. Crank shaft bearings rotating starving the crank of oil again destroying the engine. Lower suspension arms need to be replaced periodically. Also such a heavy vehicle is hard on brake components so they wear out frequently.

Never saw any point to the fake 4x4's clogging up the dealerships. Probably go for an X5 petrol if it was a few grand, would drive very similar to my daily drive car (BMW 3 series coupe E46). Most are diesel, not my cup of tea.

What kind of problem would an MOT miss that a mechanic might spot giving it a once over?

MOT just checks its roadworthy and safe. Numerous issues could exist that would not be found on an MOT. Think of an MOT as “does it start and stop when it should, is it safe, is it rotten” that’s about it.

in my experience i tend to really start running into maintenance expenses when you go over about 80k miles, and definitely 100k. add to that if it is fairly old (2005-ish, etc), and sometimes less access to parts, and it start to get expensive doesn't it? totally open to reasons why I am wrong. Actively trying to decide something like this, vs a lease, and trying to understand the logistics/economics, etc

@@DefinitelyNotAGuru yeah, heh, I have been absolutely binge-watching your channel (and already subbed, etc). and I think your take on leasing is in line with what I was thinking (might be affected by experiencing issues with older cars recently). but it is a shift away from the "but I don't own the car" way of thinking. So not quite sure if I am in fact going to lease, or get something cheap. Probably closer to 10k than 5k, but it feels like you can get a decent Sportage (or equivalent) on lease over 3 years, with basically no issues (at least that will cost you anything) guaranteed for ABOUT that same price...

@@TiaanKruger Yeah, it's a big change of mindset and a lot depends on your financial position. If you want a new car then leasing can be a great way of going (as long as you look for the deal rather than the specific car), if you need to own something it won't scratch that itch. You have to try and look at what an owned car is going to cost you (price, depreciation, repairs, tyres, road tax etc) vs the lease and then take a view from there.

Do not buy a land rover my road tax was over 300 .The DVLA do not seem to know that all car damage the road,whether petrol or diesel.They seem to charge rediculouse amount for 4x4s and get away with this daylight robbery
