Wait a mo! Where is the dozen adverts for car insurance, gambling on your phone, payday loans or the ones for legal services to take on the banks or your negligent employer? Oh that's right we didn't need them. Wow it really was a different place.

0:57 This is an excellent message for a PSA. Most of the "fire safety" guidelines they distribute in the USA include how to use a fire extinguisher, but they seldom say when NOT to use one, or any other means of DIY fire fighting (if you didn't see it start, you probably can't put it out). Most of the worst tragedies happen because some fool wasted time trying to put out a fire that was already well on its way.

Bernard Matthews actually passed away in December 2010, age 80. Paul Nicholas was the "interviewer" chatting up the Chambourcy Fromage Frais girl.

That Weetabix adverts been locked in my brain for the past 22 years...from the 1st note, it all came flooding back, word for word. Notstalgia's the best!

I remember most of these ads...probably because they were fun to watch back then. Now most stuff I watch is on sky plus so I can just forward the (awfully drab) adverts

They don't have any 'ordinary' type of adverts like your Dairy Milks, or advice on taking care of yourself like that fire advert - first time I've clapped eyes on these for well over 25 years.

Notice on the findus advert the voiceover calls it Zucchini lasagne rather than courgette. The Penguin ad reminds me of the Pants Man ad from The Apprentice :D The French girl on the fromage frais ad is cute :p

I was 7 in 1988, and that fire ad scared the bejesus out of me. I wouldn't go to sleep at night in case my dad had left something out that might catch fire. I used to go down and check in the middle of the night sometimes. I'm sure nowadays I'd get all sorts of referrals to psychologists, and looking back probably it was a reaction to a rather chaotic home life and lack of control. Weird how a short advert like that had such a big impact.

0:25 The Finders ad is an absolute classic late 80s snapshot. Women's liberation has come to full fruition. "How about cookin' somethin' up for me, for me heee" Sings the empowered young stylish "go get it" career woman driving in her Ford Escort cabriolet home to her boyfriend who at least still is masculine & does weights. Who has prepared a stylish quick frozen dish from a instant microwave meal!

The Findus Lean Cuisine advert, with all its painstakingly observed modern references (the sports cabriolet and the shit haircuts), would've been sooo much better if the roles had been reversed and she dished him up a plate of cack in two minutes.

Remember this advert when I was a kid growning up. I actually like the Ford and even now in my 30s would love to drive one of those. These were the times of the 80s with reference to fashion and cars. I don't think back then, too much was ever made of 'stereotypes' as there were 'stay at home' ladies serving dinner whilst the blokes were at work. It's quite refreshing to see this purely because of the innocence and kindness that seemingly comes out of this. The blonde by the way was stunning - would love to enjoy my life back then - things seemed a lot more simpler.

I remember that 60th birthday packaging for Rice Krispies from the time - which was followed by the ill-conceived rendering of Snap, Crackle and Pop as superheroes.

8:27 Is that a Honda Civic with a little added wood interior trim that I see? They sold a similarly dressed up Accord in the US, calling it a Sterling; people seemed to like it until it got out that the pieces Rover added didn't fit together nearly as well as the ones Honda made. Anyway, the Shake'Nvac add that follows uses the same suggestive "If it smells up here, it must really stink down there." theme as the adds I've seen recently for some garbage-disposal freshening spray or powder.

The chap driving it really ought to use the golf course car park like other golfers, not plop the Rover right by the 19th hole!

Shake and vac was genius. Has to be one of the most successful ads ever in terms of getting people to buy the product. But what's weird is I always thought it was earlier than '88. It looks like it was from about '84.

My mate had one of those rover 213's on an "B"Reg(1984?) it was the model that had the Honda engine, this would have been about 1992 when he had it, the fuckin body work was rusted to pieces, all inside the doors, sills, pretty shit for a car 8 yrs old, but the engine used to purr, and the interior was quite plush too as i recall.
