If you manage to intercept a hypersonic missile a few hundred feet from its target - the missile is still going to take your ship out. You'll just convert it into a massive fragmentation bomb which will tear everything important to pieces - sensors, RADAR, personnel. That 45 would be history.

@@ts757arse Indeed, you don't need to sink a ship - just take it out of the battle. All this focus on million dollar missiles when the future is a sub popping up or a small craft up-wind over the horizon launching 250 cheap shaped-charge or grenade-carrying drones with AI programmed to look for and attack telecommunications equipment, RADAR masts, the bridge, any aircraft etc. How do you defend against that? One you've taken the ship's eyes and ears - it's a sitting duck - at the very least it's no longer a fighting force.

@@Black_loyalist “YJ-21 is using Wave Rider technology, which make them Much more maneuverable than Conventional anti ship missiles.” Says the CCP. Do you have any proof that the PRC has this tech, other than the CCP says so? Hells, do you have any proof that the YJ-21 and its DF counterpart works at all? The PRC's HGV that got the world into a tizzy about Hypersonics missed its target, a stationary location, by 24 miles, and was launched by a rocket booster, not the DF missile booster that is the other half of the DF/YJ missile. The issue I have with all PRC scenarios are that the specs for their tech is based upon what the CCP tells us, not what the world has witnessed.

The Type 055 is -by far- the most advanced and capable Destroyer Class in the world, according to most relevant Naval experts. They are NO MATCH against the British equivalents, which are not even in top 5 among Destroyers globally on most lists (2022-). Not even the latest Arleigh-Burke Flights are equal. Type 055s have anti/ship ballistic missiles etc. And the largest and most sensitive radar detection fields in the world, not to mention the type 055 is super hard to see on enemy radars due to their anti-radar stealth design - not even mentioned here. Also, not even all systems and capabilities on the type 055 are even known yet. You are quite funny to suggest they have a chance. 🙂 Thank goodness, we will probably never find out how this battle would end IRL.

I've seen a lot of discussion on Chinese websites about type26 destroyers, and the general consensus is that the ship offers too much space for sailors' comfort and too little for weapons, with some calling it a "luxury cruise ship with advanced weapons." type26 does a good job of form factor design and high-tech weaponry, but it is not an "go all out" warship, and usually a destroyer of this tonnage can have more weapons systems.

Building ships like Britain used to! Rapid iterations in design to quickly develop and deploy new classes of warship in significant numbers. It's a good way of working if you can do it - each new generation is a worthwhile upgrade but doesn't try to be a revolutionary change so development is less likely to hit insurmountable hurdles and the rapid pace of their introduction means that capabilities are massively improved over fairly short timescales.

I have a potential solution: Scrap Spear5 completely. Instead load Type 26 Mk41 VLS with a 50/50 mix of quad-packed CAMM and Spear 3. Giving 48 of each per hull. Overall RN missile numbers would then be RN: 336 SAM, 112 ASM Spear3 has a small warhead (my guess is similar to Brimstone/Hellfire), so its role would mainly be to deplete SAMs to help the 8 NSMs get through. Adjusting relative positions of T45 &T26 to achieve ToT might help. (VLS version of Spear 3 is speculative, but I've seen it mentioned)

For tests like this, you need to somehow program the destroyers/ships to have a Time on Target (TOT) synced up. Ships firing their missiles in a line like this allowing missile defenses to react as they come in one by one are tactics that were only used way back in the 60s and 70s. In reality, these ships would be arcing the trajectories of the hypersonic missiles to all come in at the same time, while the subsonic missiles would make small turns and changes in their flight plan to come in as a line abrest. The results you would get from using real life tactics vs dumb obsolete tactics from 70 years ago are going to be completely different. Honestly doing tests like this without the proper TOT planning is a waste of time.
