I enjoyed this lesson a little too much. I've had 8 months of piano practice after my retirement, and had to struggle with music theory, so this old dog didn't learn any new tricks. But I realize that my lack of musical training made me realize all those remarks on my report cards at school. Doesn't play well with others. I've never played in a band and never harmonized with someone. But now I've picked up the ukulele, and dammit I've got to start playing songs. Your explanation of the circle and your advice about just playing music happened at the right time. Merci beaucoup.

I’ve been musical my whole life. I’ve heard numerous lectures in the circle of fifths, but this is the first time it’s actually made sense! Thank you so much for this easy to understand explanation.

In another life I was a scientist and I was exposed to lots of graphics that were designed to summarize and exolain relationships. In all of that I've never found one that contains as much information, in a logical form, as the circle of fifths. Great vlog, Phil.

Wow, that explanation about different keys and the circle of fifths actually made sense to me! As a beginner, people kept talking about playing in different keys and it was all kinda opaque. This made it crystal clear. Now, I need to go print out that circle of fifths. Thank you so much!

Good tips! I've been using the circle of fifths for many years and your pointer about 'Ain't She Sweet' moving out to E and back through the circle to C was new to me. A great insight.

Dear Lord it's so simple now. I've been playing guitar for years and have dabbled a good bit in ukulele for a while as well. I tried looking into the circle of fifths after my friend brought it up to me and it all felt much more overwhelming than your explanation. I'm happy you found something you're great at, such as your teaching

You have no idea how many years I have been watching videos and reading books on how to understand the circle of fifths. No one ever explained it in a way I could understand. After years of playing piano and guitar and not being able to understand it, I get a Ukulele and start looking through videos of how the Ukulele works and then you go and hit it out of the park with the best explanation I have ever seen. Thank you so much and keep up the great work. You earned a subscriber and a happy musician.

Thank you so much for this! Numbers and math scare me but this was easy to follow and left me feeling good not confused! One question....So the inner circle ⭕️ with the minors (Dm,Fm,Gm,etc...) don’t move at all? Meaning if I move G one space to the left , does the Em move with it?
@PhilDoleman
@PhilDoleman 6 жыл бұрын
•Jo• Thanks, yes the minor chords move in the same way as the major chords.

Do you use a capo to play lead or rhythm with other instruments such as a banjo, guitar?
@PhilDoleman
@PhilDoleman 5 жыл бұрын
No, not on the uke. I do use one on 5 string banjo, but that's quite a common thing as open strings are quite important in the style I play.
