A look at my first GEC. I'm guessing the GECCAR means Great Eastern Cutlery Carbon now. Mike's knives: www.mikesknives.co.uk/ Pull weight table: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

Congratulations on your first knife from Great Eastern Cutlery. You have now arrived. There's a problem with GEC - I'm up to three of them (all from Mike) and I want more - nothing else I've seen feels as good to have in your pocket. If you don't like the blade etching you can remove it easily (it's designed to fade away over time), and yes, the bolsters are nickel silver. The CAR stamped on your tang is short for Carbon and indicates GEC's 1095 steel. The CAR abbreviation recently replaced the TIW stamp, which was an acronym for Titusville Iron Works. For your next GEC I'd recommend you consider a Tidioute. Just as good as Northfield, they're a little bit more rugged and usable in an everyday sense.

Haha I've actually already bought a second, another Northfield since I like the nail pull they do, however I will absolutely try a Tidioute! Thank you for the comprehensive information! I'm fairly naive compared to Paddy, Slick Slicers and co. So it's great to learn the acronyms and recent changes and such. Mike is a good guy, looking forward to my next from him. Cheers to you! -Al

Oh it’s dinky ,but yea that is gorgeous Al. The main clip blade is beautiful and the scales are lovely . I’m a little jealous 👍.

Great knife, great size! CAR stands for Csrbon Steel. Your reference (141218) would mean 14 for the pattern, 1 for the main/master blade id (regular clip) , 2 stands for the number of blades znd 18 for the year it was made(2018). If you want something a bit special you can look for Charlie Campagna SFO's that Mike has as well for sale - Tom's Choice (I have 2) or Northwoods Knives - are also made by GEC. If you want a bigger knife, I would recommend a 77 pattern, or 97. The good thing is that GEC really holds its value and is really sought after so you can easily sell yours and get something you really like. Cheers!

Ah yes, I looked for a #77, damn near impossible to find anywhere, let alone the UK. I like Northfield for their long pull rather than the nail nick. Cheers -Al

I just bought a GEC Possum Skinner from Mike, lovely little knife. Also twin blades but on a single spring so super thin 👌

@@UKLegalCarryKnives He was very helpful, surprisingly quick delivery too. Although the postman seemed to think a safe place to leave mine was in the wheelie bin 😳

I like very much. Was it very expensive I need one in my life soon. Lol. Atb paddy 👍☘️😃
@UKLegalCarryKnives4 жыл бұрын
Yes sir, it wasn't cheap, £140 for this little bugger! Mike has some for as low as £85 though, depends on what you fancy, at least his prices include shipping.

The price of all knives from the USA has unfortunately increased in price over the last year just due to the very poor exchange rate. I'm not adding any extra costs we are just losing value due to the 1.2 rate at present. Hopefully we can soon get back to better rates and I prices will lower accordingly.
@UKLegalCarryKnives4 жыл бұрын
@@mikekeogh indeed, I've calculated import, shipping etc and your prices are anything but inflated, same with Chris Reeve knives from Framar, way more expensive than the US just because of the world right now! Hopefully it'll settle down soon!

Don't understand your measurements, is that imperial or metric or a mixture of both,??
@UKLegalCarryKnives4 жыл бұрын
Inches good sir, as indicated in the top right of the lcd. The full review will have a more comprehensive table of measurements on it.
