The service was founded by Fatema Bangee, (BSc, PGCert, MBABCP) officially in 2020 after spending three years successfully supporting psychology grad students to gain employment and beat the psych careers 'competitive' attitude!
Fatema has also worked with therapists, psychologists and qualified/accredited mental health professionals to help build their private practice and promote their services on social media in a safe and ethical way.
The Psychology Careers Service aims to support people just like you, both students and professionals in psychology, to discover their potential and forge their own paths in building a fulfilled career in psychology!

It should be illegal for any role in the UK to be £18-£20k p/a. You cannot afford to live with that amount in most places in the UK, it’s actually really problematic.

I remember near the end of my BSc we had a careers session. The advisor said "After this degree you won't actually be qualified in anything but you have earned a lot of transferable skills." Never heard so many people gasped at once! 😂

Hi thanks for the video! I’ve noticed that many pwps leave the role after 1-2 years of getting the job and I was wondering if you think it is worth it to go through the competitive application and interview stages just to leave the role within a few years?

Every role in psychology is competitive therefore its your personal drive for your career in psychology which determines how long to keep applying for roles. Also people use the PWP role as a stepping stone when it wasn't originally made for this. You can make a wonderful career by staying as a PWP and progressing to senior posts too. The issue is that people that aren't serious about the role get on to the training and then move on very quickly but also the role itself can be difficult to sustain because some services giving high caseloads to their pwps which makes the role really high pressured. Hope that answers your Q!x

I didn't get the third point when you said that "you get apecific kind of funding at specific times of the year and if you don't get that you might get a year behind" i mean are you talking about the training posts or scholarships that students get during the course year? and how does not getting it put you one or two year behind? pls explain

Hey, thanks for your question. Apologies for that not being too clear. Roles such as PWP and applying for doctorates happen at particular times of the year. If you miss applying/being recruited in the specific window, you will have to wait for the next which could be months/a year later. Meaning that you may end up getting on the course later than planned. Although, this is not a bad thing as everyone has their own unique journey! Hi there, thanks for your question, we love answering them. Hey, thanks for your comment. We hear this often, people often do post-grad studying and different volunteering/job roles before becoming a psychologist. However, there is no one journey to the doctorate! We share more about this on our various social media pages on instagram, tiktok and linked in. Hey, thanks for your comment. We love answering your questions. Just to clarify do you mean to study psychopathology or to study in psychotherapy? Psychopathology may be a module in some post-graduate study options, whereas for psychotherapy there are particular routes you can take to qualify as a psychotherapist. We share more about this on our various social media pages on instagram, tiktok and linked in.
