Up here, in Queensland the state Gov is desperate to transition small mining to go chase Critical minerals, they drag you through the dirt appon renewals and applications, for gold and Gemstone permits, their failure is to realize these are Gateway activities to chasing the Blacksands and they have no chance of meeting their Critical targets without a "Wartime" effort of the Artisanal miners.

They the Dept have been slowly going through the process of re-issuing new titles, its a complicated process and takes time. However the result is that more than 50% of the claims have not been renewed, the owners/miners have decided its just to difficult and walked away. So a government bureaucrat who is no doubt on $250k plus a year has destroyed the Lightning Ridge Opal mining Industry, and no one gives a stuff, no one is sacked, she is still collecting her tax payer funded salary. The NSW Govt has announced a Inquiry to be conducted by a former Attorney General for NSW, he put out a discussion paper in late Dec 2022, and invited public submissions which has now closed, the timeline is that Inquirey will hand down its finding to the NSW Govt in July, for the Govt to consider. But its looking very likely that the whole Industry will be facing higher charges and stricter regulation, thats my reading of it, its an opinion and you know opinions are like A / holes, everyone has one. In other words Opal Mining in NSW may be facing implosion as an industry, strangled by Govt Red Tape and a bureaucracy who cannot stand individuals who do not conform to societal norms.

Remember mintabie , now would it have something to do with geological survey planes flying grids 18months 2 yrs earlier. ? This is criminal in a corporate and political level . Remember big Miner s find bigger ways to pay less tax and spend in the community. Australia needs more small miners less red tape , I know what I'm spending just so I can make a start . My community is benifits my state benifits and the route to the opal fields benifits and then there is the town in which I have purchased property. We are a small Industry, yes they would. At the same time, with a single stroke of the pen, they have left approx 400 peoples residents, their homes untitled and on very unsecured tenure. Nobody in Govt cares much, small remote country community, as far they are concerned we are all pretty much vermin anyway, expendable vermin at that.
