Col. (ret.) Lawrence Wilkerson's last positions in government were as Secretary of State Colin Powell's Chief of Staff (2002-05), Associate Director of the State Department's Policy Planning staff under the directorship of Ambassador Richard N. Haass, and member of that staff responsible for East Asia and the Pacific, political-military and legislative affairs (2001-02).
-
Before serving at the State Department, Wilkerson served 31 years in the U.S. Army. During that time, he was a member of the faculty of the U.S. Naval War College (1987 to 1989), Special Assistant to General Powell when he was Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (1989-93), and Director and Deputy Director of the U.S. Marine Corps War College at Quantico, Virginia (1993-97). Wilkerson retired in 1997 and began work as an advisor to General Powell. He has also taught national security affairs at the George Washington University.

I the late 80's a Soviet journalist was invited to the US for a visit. After some time host asked the guests what he thought of the US. He was expecting to hear praise of freedom but rather shocked when the guest said: "We didn't expect so much propaganda in the US." BUT, the host argued: "Don't you have more propaganda in the Soviet Union?" Yes - the guest replied - but nobody believes it.

An Apt comment from another : On December 8, 1967, Senator J. William Fulbright gave a speech on the floor of the Senate. The subject was the Vietnam War. The prior month, on November 17, LBJ held a press conference in which he said, amongst other things, the following regarding the governments attitude towards dissent IRT the war in SE Asia: "We don't stop the publication of any papers. We don't fine anyone for something they say....." Fulbright in his Senate remarks responded with the following: "I should like to make it clear that I am not the slightest bit grateful to the administration for my freedom of speech. That freedom is an inalienable right which the American people reserved to themselves when they established a constitutional government. It is not the people's freedom which is a gift from their Government, but the Government's authority which is a gift from the people, a retractable trust to be discharged at their pleasure. When the Government abstains from suppressing dissent, it is doing nothing more than complying with one of the explicit conditions of its constitutional trust. That is not a thing for which gratitude is owed." It is inconceivable that ANY member of the Congress would be capable of saying anything even remotely like this today!

From what I've read, China accomplished its limited political goals against the Vietnamese, and withdrew once they did so. Yes, the war only lasted a month, and Vietnam gave them a bloody nose... but... the CHinese war against India only lasted a month as well, and China is clearly seen as the victor of that war: China accomplished its limited political goals in Inida and then promptly withdrew. The lesson I take from this is not that the Vietnamese kicked China's butt, but that China does not initiate long protracted wars. Instead, China initiates short wars with achievable objectives, achieves those objectives, and then withdraws. P.S. The American perspective on the war may be shaped by wounded pride. How many Americans would like to believe that China fought a small-but-successful war against Vietnam after Vietnam kicked the US' asses?

Yes, Ch1na did. Although it was a pyrric victory for Ch1na, they still indeed won, and it was a limited incursion anyhow, anyways. They sent in ONLY 4 Group Armies, out of their massive armed forces (and ZERO airpower committed, for most part).

Can't believe I've missed this channel, now signed up. Col Wilkerson was class. People like Wilkerson and Douglas MacGregor should have a big say in government policy, instead, they are silenced.

🇳🇿⚖️🇵🇱as a western trained lawyer, I say the "rules based order" is a blatant legal joke and a misnomer or hypocorism (adult baby talk). There is NO substitute to the International Law.😂

I think after what’s happening in Gaza is going to create another global organization similar to the UN but with actual teeth, enforcement capacity and the western powers will not be part of it. This will probably take a 2-3 decades to make it happen though.

when challenged, apologists say there are instead a series of treaties and documents which function as a de facto constitution, apparently oblivious to the idea that any sitting parliament in Westminster can repeal, replace, adjust or override any one of those documents in a single term, which has in fact happened several times
