Is Dom laboring under the belief that Ukraine target that beach? Where were the air raid sirens? Why were people on the beach in an occupied war zone? Russia and Russia alone is responsible for any and all civilian casualties.

Let’s sit on a beach that literally has an airstrip running through it (look at satellite photos - the airstrip literally runs through the beach) in occupied territory! The very reason they’re comfortable to do this is because they know, unlike Russia, Ukraine doesn’t target civilians.

Sunbathers during a war and close to a military base? What are these sunbathers thinking? How arrogant and hypocritical of Russians. They target civilians. If sunbathers get hurt by falling debris why are they lying near a base???? It is clear to me that sunbathing near a military base during a war is utterly stupid on their part.

There are many beaches in Crimea why would Russian base operators allow civilians to be that close to legitimate target. Also missle was hit by air defence and a beach was never going to be the target of limited stocks, of an expensive and acurate munition. The question whether the civilians killed on the beaches of Crimea is morale acceptable is a complex. Who is responsible for what has happened, the cause were Rockets from the US, sent by Ukrainians and taken down over civilian territory by Ruzzian air defense. But who / what is responsible? The occupation of the Crimea? The lack of civil protection by the Ruzzian authorities? The support of Putin by the inhabitants of Crimea? Did the attacking Rocket's had to be taken down over civilian territory? Just to mention some points to consider.... In casuistique the one who starts the chain of events, true?

Two points: Thing 1 - A soldier begging for his life to a drone who cannot otherwise be affirmatively disarmed and taken into custody, is not a soldier surrendering. Once the drone is gone or incapacitated, this soldier picks up his weapons and goes back about the business of killing more Ukrainians. I have zero moral qualms with killing a “surrendering” soldier that cannot be taken into custody. Thing 2 - It is true that if the state apparatus performed as designed, Prigozhin would’ve never even made it as far as he did. And while it’s certainly not a foregone conclusion that he could’ve ultimately been successful, it’s also clear that the state apparatus was largely paralyzed and not operating as designed. Many in command positions were clearly sitting on the sidelines trying to figure out who was going to win so that they could come out to back that one. I believe it’s quite true to say that Putin narrowly escaped what could become a national disaster of one form or another because of Prigozhin’s brazen march.

Dom, Your question about the moral aspects of who should be hit is clear to Ukraine. Ukraine hits military and support installations. There is no targeting of Russian civilians. That does not mean Russian civilians will not be hit. But it means that during war and missile defenses, Ukraine is targeting items and locations used in Russia's war effort.

Well if want a moral conundrum to consider how about this one. Western morality deplores civilian casualties so Ukraine must avoid them at all costs including limiting strikes on military targets on Russian or Russian held territories where Russia has placed them among civilians. This would guarantee Russia a safe haven and pretty much guarantee continued Russian aggressive action including strikes on Ukrainian civilians, abuse of civilians in areas occupied and war crimes against Ukrainian soldier. Russia started this, Ukraine has a right to defend itself and unlike Russia, seem to do a fairly good job of observing the rules of war. The Russian state routinely commits war crimes as a matter of policy. Ukraine does not.

Crimea is clearly occupied by foreign forces and it's currently heavily contested by the long range weapons of the forces that belongs to that teritory as it's internationaly recognised. Any civilian regardless of the nationality should count on that and care not to be a civilian shield of the combatants' infrastructure. I suppose the people on the Crimean beach had this choice on the contrary to many civilians in Gaza. In case of Gaza there were many excuses how this is unavoidable although those civilian victims had absolutely no choice whether to be o not to be at the particular place and protect their personal safety. In case of Crimea any one mentaly sane would avoid that space in terms of a seaside recreation for the sake of his/her personal safety and any one had that choice. If they were targrted deliberately or AFU had a better choice to effectively contest Russian army assets in Crimea in order to lessen the probabiility of civilian casualities I'd think different. In this case I don't see the point of doubts if we are not willing to let civilians on one side of the war unlimited space to pretend there ain't one.

IMO, a combetant is wearing a uniform or a weapon and is a validt target. Actively supporting said troops by information or ability is a direct threat to defensive troops and will regettably be valid targets indirectly in so the target is to end that and they're a part of it by being from where it happens. Ruzzian natives on Ukrainian occupied lands are part of the occupational culture by means of exploit and are self to blame for being collateral casualties when sunbathing near anti aircraft missiles and jammer equipment. Impact is known to be unpredictable when they work and they bloody well have no place being there in the first place

The responsibility for their deaths is entirely on the Russian side, a) for starting the war, and b) for not keeping civilians far away from military targets. If the Russians wanted to avoid Russian civilian casualties (they clearly don't care about Ukrainian civilian casualties), then they would evacuate the entirety of the Donbas and Crimea - with Rostov and Belgorod regions next.

It's a shame those civilians died but they were in an active war zone on occupied land and Ukraine did not target them, the missile was targeted at a military facility. Russia started the war. Russia stole the land. Russia encouraged civilians to go to the occupied zone. Russia refused to close the beaches. And Russia shot down the missile, which is ultimately what caused the shrapnel.
