“Shortened medium range attack drones are killing more soldiers on both sides than any other weapons system."
Drones are playing an increasingly deadly role on both sides of the conflict, explains The Times’s Anthony Loyd.

so in future every tank/armoured vehicle would need to be equipped with a Gepard-like automated radar and anti-drone gun system.

A rifle bullet (7.62mm, the NATO standard bullet for small arms) costs around 1€. If you fire more than 500 bullets to shot down an FPV drone chasing you, then you have lost the economic battle. 500 bullets are 1 minute of firing with an automatic gun. Are you sure you can hit a flying drone (which is quite small, like a bird) with 500 bullets? It is quite difficult even to shoot a static target, let alone a small moving target at 50 km/h, maybe a couple hundreds meters away (which are only a dozen or so seconds before hitting you!). The best you can do is to fire randomly roughly in the direction of the drone. The chances to hit it are vanishing small!

@@marcobassini3576 yes, That's why I was thinking about automated system like the Gepard has. And again, if it prevents a $1 million tank from being destroyed, even 5000$ of bullets would IMO be worth it.

@@ClemensKatzer If I launch 200 FPV drones (500€ each), to save a 1M€ tank (or even a 10M€ target, it does not matter) you have spent 1M€ in munitions, while I have only spent 100k€ in drones. You have saved the tank, but you have gone bankrupt anyway (you have spent 10x than I have). You simply cannot engage (in a sustainable manner) any target that costs less than the bullets (or rockets, or stones, whatever ....) used to engage it!

We are all getting numb about seeing people killed in Ukraine and hearing Anthony Loyd's interview about him being in the bunkers with the Ukrainian drone-men and watching their mechanical flying killing machines take out soldiers like flies by a fly swatter should make us realize how we have to get that insane war stopped as soon as possible. We are welcoming the spectacle of death in our living machines and through our screens as if it were childs' play. Here is a comment I sent to help exhausted Ukrainian soldiers: We need a new invention here. The Ukrainians have paved the way for drone warfare to be the de facto fighting force in all wars to come. Now we need to come up with a new invention of relieving warn-out and battle fatigued Ukrainian troops and not upset the NATO applecart. What might be the way to skirt around this very controversial issue is to have relief-fighters AKA mercenaries who are paid to come and fight but only to give Ukrainian soldiers R&R and that means for example, in 3-week-shifts. These so-called 'hired guns' i.e., trained professionals could be used but only as temporary foot soldiers on 3-week-missions. It might be the way to skirt around getting nailed for using NATO troops and let's face it; there are ex-soldiers out there who would give anything to be back in action. A temporary base---like the French Foreign Legion might employ---could be set up in, say, Poland where the mercenaries AKA relief fighters, could be stationed.

Russian forces have expanded the area of combat operations in the northern Kharkiv region by 43 miles, announced on Friday by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Oleksandr Syrski. Meanwhile, the Europe 1 radio station provided new information regarding the actions of Western leaders concerning the peace talks between Kiev and Moscow. According to the radio station's reports, "Western offices are preparing coordinated diplomatic actions to persuade Volodymyr Zelensky to accept the terms of negotiations." We read, "Kyiv will have to conduct talks about ending the war, risking the worst possible scenario, such as the Russians opening another section of the front." "The Russians has expanded the area of active combat operations by almost 43 miles, trying in this way to force us to use an additional number of brigades from the reserve. The Russians has concentrated its main efforts on the direction of Strilecha-Lypci and capturing Vovchansk, with further advancement towards Bilyi Kolodiaz and starting an offensive on the rear of our troops," wrote the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Oleksandr Syrski, on Facebook on Friday.' The military also noted that the Russians "started the offensive much earlier than planned." "We are facing heavy fighting, and the Russians is preparing for it," he added.
