Ukrainian officials are asking Washington to allow the use of American weapons to strike Russia after the Russian army launched an offensive on Kharkiv. Zelenskyy came to Kharkiv and held a Staff meeting there. Russia is looking for a Ukrainian clue in the attack on the Slovak prime minister

Blinken said 15th May, "The US doesn't "encourage" ( note: not a demand or condemnation; only ADVICE ) Ukraine to use US weapons on russian territory. But, "ultimately" it is up to Ukraine, to "decide" how to use US weapons." That is basically a green light! All of US wordings are just plain and simple "diplomacy" and nothing more.

The contraints are silly. They are there mostly to give a non-nuclear escalation path to deter Lil Poot from, say, zapping the ZNPP. It's a way to tell the tiny little fella that things can get worse without leaping right to total war. But also, the US doesn't need to give permission for how Ukraine uses, say, F16s donated by the Netherlands.

The idea that Russia should have the huge advantage of complete safety and impunity to marshal and deploy forces at bases arbitrarily sited beyond Ukraine's own border - which is completely ignored by Russia itself - is ludicrous. Of course they have to strike Russia itself, with the best weapons available. Think about it - even if they drove all the Russian soldiers back into Russia, they'd still be facing constant attacks and would need to disrupt and defend themselves.

I just don't see how Europe can simply look on as bystanders. What will happen if Russia uses Belarus to attack from? There is also Kaliningrad, Transnistria and other exclaves.

When negessary... and legimate... fear of escalation... prinsible should be anytime to defend ongoing aggression.... meaning since 2014... anything else is benefitting aggressor.
