I live in Cumnock, the work HRH does around here is just astounding. my school aged son is at Dumfries house almost monthly for some event or another, either at the house itself or at one of the many education facilities on site - from science events to book festivals to horticulture classes or exploring the woodlands, it really has been a phenomenal boost to the young people of the area. the house and estate itself is also predominantly staffed by young people of the area on training courses (namely hospitality) giving them the skills and a foot on the ladder into the big wide world of work

laurie bunting that's great, comment section is nothing but poison. He doesn't get the recognition he deserves, people just complain about anything they can but their comments come from a place of ignorance. I'm glad his efforts improved the community, I wish I was in the position to be able to do something like this but I'm glad he used his position for good because he could just do nothing. He will be a great king

Laurie Bunting, just wanted to thank you for such a great contribution to this story. Hearing the end use and value is just what the viewer is hoping for. And if his HRH ever gets the opportunity to read your words, he too would be grateful to learn of the positive influence in your son's life and the community. And I am thrilled to know the Chippendale pieces are being enjoyed ; ) .

Dingle Barry in some ways HRH is stuck in the past but in others thanks to his youthful boys who probably brought him out of all that stuffiness he seems more relaxed and laid back! So Diana was a great asset to his life and the Royal family in general without being the "baby making" machine! As for not loving her, his comment when asked by a journalist on their engagement about being in love his reply "whatever love is" gave a clear indication of things to come!! Everyone gasped in astonishment at that remark. No wonder Diana felt insecure. He never helped her or guided her in the ropes of royalty and etiquette poor girl. Luckily William is like his mother in more ways then one as he makes sure he is there for Catherine his wife all the way! That's the difference!

@@dawndeacon164 Charles became more relaxed and laid back when he married Camilla. The British people owe her. Diana, with Borderline Personality Disorder, must have been a shock to everyone, and difficult for Charles to live with. As we know, Diana was never insecure. She sought popularity, sought the camera, called the paparazzi to let them know where she'd be, and then spoke terribly about Charles. And then acted the innocent girl. This is what Borderlines do. Sadly, many people are gullible, and see only what they want to see. Yes, William has inherited the awful Spencer temper, but he also inherited strength of character from his father, and has grown into a man who can control his temper.

Funny boy-. That wasn’t a mistake it was a deliberate act- he even said to Diana she was just his “ baby maker”. He never loved her if he did he wouldn’t have cheated time and time again he couldn’t Marry Camilla She was not only to old but she had a history with his family not only was she his cousin but her grandmother had an affair with the king- Elizabeth’s grandfather Yes Kamila’s grandmother was. A mistress to the king so their families are intertwined and weaved into each other incestuous much?? The royal family is legendary for this it’s disgusting they like to “keep it in the family” Which is also horrendous so to say he made a mistake is a tremendous understatement he deliberately did it so it wasn’t a mistake he needed somebody who wasn’t related to the family that could create a decente& Mentally capable heir that’s what Diana was for. Do you really think if Camilla and prince Charles reproduced that the heir would be mentally capable? No their cousins it be retarded not only that it would be horrendously ugly not to mention Camillus too old to reproduce to get over YOURSELF Old Charlie called Camila before and after the marriage during the marriage and they’d have rendezvous‘s Diana couldn’t do/ say anything about it because she was trapped like a doll in a doll house when you saw her crying she was crying because of his assholeness And her realizing he never really loved her When she went to the queen for help you know what the queen said? what can I do-He’s totally incorrigible...So the sweet young princess was left to her own devices that’s when she decided to make her book and then from there after she died Kamila and old Charlie had their own propaganda writer Who wrote a book for Camilla and prince to counter the damage Diane is booked it in exposing the horrendous and disgusting world of the Royals not just how stuck up they are as well as spoiled “ because they are special, ROYALTY “😒🙄🤨 In brief reality what they are is over entitled snobs that’s what they are Not to mention they feels superior to everyone else but they are is disgusting rich peopleAnd Charlie is doing everything he can to make the public like Miller even though she’s a homewrecker and the fact that William is standing by his father is doing absolute no justice for his mother so pardon me if I can’t stand That homewrecker or the manwhore he had so many girlfriends before Diana it’s disgusting it’s a complete double standard in the royal family the man can run around all he wants but the lady has to sit very properly and say nothing seen and not heard I guess is the key phraseThat’s why I’m so disgusted with the royal family He married his cousin he destroyed his wife in question verbally abused to the point where she was starving herself If you’re a Brit I can’t believe you’re backing him that’s awful You should be ashamed of yourself

@@Vixen743 The entire British Royal family/system seemingly did not learn the lesson of 1936. Perhaps Edward VIII was a twit, but at the root of it, here is a position he did not court and was thrust into without consultation. Then on top it, he was supposed to marry or not marry someone they told him (not) to. Almost none of us would do it. Diana, was a fine person, but this match was nonsense from the beginning. However, she not only could not have been previously married/widow but if I remember the day in 1981, she was supposed to also be a virgin and that this was verified for God's sake ... according to allusions on CBC while the carriage was on the way to the church ... hard to believe. I doubt if such questions were ever asked of the male members of the family. So, Charles, in his gilded cage, is yet again supposed to marry someone suitable and all of that which, I suspect, he thought was well, an unsophisticated 'girl'. They had practically nothing in common. She may well have thought she could make a go of it, but I think that was pretty naive and someone in her group should have told her so. She should have turned him down. So, instead we travelled this sorry path with a 'fairy tale' wedding of two people who were not really 'strangers' but were hardly in love and actors in an expensive bit of theatre. Perhaps, the structure of the Royal family thought they could keep it together. Diana, was a modern girl with emotions not understanding at all of the 'duty first' austerity of the Family. So, things fell apart as they almost certainly were going to. Charles, was an adulterer, but while a violation of the trust, he had been boxed in by circumstance. If he had been able to marry whom he chose all of this could have been avoided. As to the merits of their children, had their been any, is moot. William I suspect did not select Kate because he had her DNA analyzed and that she along with him would yield brilliant and equally beautiful children. You can dislike Charles all you want, but to me, such an argument is just silly. The entire Diana episode should never have happened. While the media was utterly culpable in her death, they were also used by her to maintain her place. After she figured things out, she played the game as well. That is just fine with me. Wealthy, privileged folk do things for far different reasons than the rest of us. Many, many successful men in the US and Europe have affairs and even children out of wedlock, because they can afford to dally. They are completely free to play their games. Charles and his set are far, far more constrained and yet, so many cruelly take great sport in his embarrassment and such like. I am sure that to walk in his shoes for a day would be sporting. For a year, not so much.

Henri van Bemmel He was not allowed to marry Camila who he didn’t He just continued the affair he didn’t marry her per se- he ended up using and abusing Diana because not only did she have a good heritage her father was a Lord and she was a virgin and pretty- Camilla was Fugley and I’m pretty sure if a mate is chosen for you, they’re going to make sure you’re lifeline is attractive Diana could legitimately be a princess-In the immortal words of CharlesWhen asked if he was in love with Diana: he said-“ I guess whatever love means” she was in shock because Diana Legitimately loved him he just didn’t love her He just needed somebody to create heirs., attractive ones Because Lord knows that the prince it wasn’t that great all he had was his background being a prince to back him up That’s only what she was really there for I guess what they do as far as the royalty goes they’re not modern people they’re still in the 1940s that like to follow this “Old ridiculous tradition crap” I can understand the Boxed in B.S. But in reality at this day and age do they really need royalty NO THEY DONT They need a modern life style and a modern government in Britain I thank God I don’t live in THAT 🤨🙄 all they do is mooch off of the public and yes husband had affairs and you know why because the only real. Reason To beMarried was to continue the throne They didn’t give a shit about each other’s emotions🤨🤪😖

@@Vixen743 I largely agree with you. Every country has symbols, but do they have to living ones? I don't know the numbers, but I imagine especially with Wm & K that it would be a minority that would want to get rid of all of it. However, by 2100 ... I suppose we should give them 2066. Lol. However, as a symbol and as a Canadian QE2 is largely well thought of even if the whole thing is somewhat stupid. It obviously faf more ingrained in the UK where it seems everyone has a title. Here, really it is only the Queen and I don't know if you benefit from a figurehead or not. As to the costs, I'm not privy to the details, but the visibility of the RF certainly gives weight to many charities and causes that would otherwise die on the vine as well a representing the nation(s). I think in sum, the RF probably is a half decent investment compared to some of the other boondoggles governments get involved in. Like I wrote earlier, Diana should never have been involved and someone in her circle should have been frank with her. Maybe she got googly-eyed over the fantasy of the RF and naively went ahead. She was 20 for God's sake what did she know about all of this? Not much and when she really found out it was too late. Now Charles is of course part of this, but I'll bet my grandfather's shaving mug that there all kinds of functionaries pulling levers and turning knobs behind the scenes as well and they were forcing him too. A lousy business to be sure.

@John Smith Are you really brain dead? Members of the Royal Family meet thousands of people every year you simpleton, especially people who are involved with charities. Saville was lionised by the British public for his work with hospital charities, he raised millions of pounds. He was no more a "best buddy" (very American) than any other member of the British public you dirty minded creep. All public honours in the UK are awarded by the Prime Minister - Saville's knighthood was withdrawn following the revelations that followed his death. Do you know everything about everyone of your friends, even members of your family? Paedophiles do not wear badges. The easiest thing in the world to threw mud, but some of it sticks to the thrower - what's your dirty little secret John Smith?

@John Smith What evidence do you have to support your claims? As I've tried to inform you, members of the Royal Family meet a very wide variety of people in the course of their annual duties. Supporting and fronting charities are high on their list of commitments and there's no doubt whatsoever that Saville featured very high in the field of charity appeals. He was BIG on national television, he was lionised by the media and his knighthood* was conferred against a background of popular support. It was only after death (a huge public funeral and a massive monument paid for from public subscription**) that his roadies 'broke cover' and confirmed the truth of the rumours that had been circulating for some time. Perverts don't wear badges Mr Smith, you may well have more than one or two in your own family/social circle - you wouldn't know. "Best buddy" - very American. If PA is a 'best buddy, so is Trump and Clinton and a number of politically influential and wealthy US citizens. Are you prepared to throw your unsubstantiated crap at them too? The first casualty to mob rule is the rule of law. PA has not been charged with any offence. *Knighthoods are awarded on the recommendation of the Prime Minister - Saville's was voided after his ugly history was exposed. **Grave monument removed.

I have never been very impressed with most of the royal family. But my views have changed a bit. I have been learning about them from watching the films on You Tube. Dedication to their responsibility of being royal has been an eye opener. For the longest time all I saw of them was opening little curtains on plaques. They are all wonderful causes and thank God there is someone to draw attention to them. It must be very difficult to be "on" all the time. In this case of Dumfries Restoration I was very moved when Prince Charles said he wouldn't want to tell his grandchildren that he didn't try to help change things and come up with a solutions to problems. I commend his dedication and the help he has received right across the economic scale. Good going guy.

So Diana dead, Harry kicked the traces, what will happen in 10y to him? all result of royal rules back to 70s. But Charles has his mommy wife. He never told Diana, naive 19y the score. Ted Mounsteven THE marriage of the Prince of Wales to Mrs Camilla Parker Bowles was illegal, according to government advice given at the time of his divorce from Diana, Princess of Wales, The Times has learnt. www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,2-2217999,00.html A document released under the Freedom of Information Act shows that John Major's Government insisted a decade ago that the Royal Family would be forbidden from marrying in register offices. The advice flatly contradicts the opinion given by the Lord Chancellor, Lord Falconer of Thoroton, to Parliament once the Prince announced his engagement last year. The Lord Chancellor omitted to point out that he was overturning recent guidance. Lawyers and constitutional experts are now accusing ministers of placing in doubt the validity of the Prince's marriage at Windsor Guildhall in April 2005 and his succession as King. The Times asked the Cabinet Office for information about the heir remarrying after divorce. The document produced is potentially explosive. Headed "Briefing for the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster's Appearance on Any Questions: The Royal Divorce", it sets out John Major's Government's views. Although the two-page document is undated, it refers to the divorce as a topical issue and makes clear that the Princess is still alive. It can be placed around 1996. The document looks at the constitutional position of a divorced Prince of Wales remarrying or succeeding. Under the heading "Remarriage", the position is clear: "Members of the Royal Family are excepted from the provisions of the Marriage Act 1949, and their marriages in England and Wales must therefore be performed by Anglican clergy under either a Special or a Common Licence. "There is, however, also a moral obligation on Anglican clergy not to marry a divorced person in Church (if the former spouse is still alive) . . ."

The criticism levelled at Prince Charles over the years, mainly from the press of course, is merely a result of the age of celebrity that we live in now. He doesn't fit the required "celebrity" imagine promoted by the vacuum heads that promote mediocrity. I admire Prince Charles and I like Camilla. She dresses so classy. My ancestors came from Scotland so I have all ways been a fan of them. It is so hurtful the way H is treating his family. They will have to wait on H hitting bottom then he will want to reconnect with them. And believe me H will want them back. MM will not stick around long. She is not a good looking woman and she needs to be locked up in a mental ward. Anyone who would back her has problems themselves.

An American, I have shared life with HRH Prince Charles, on different continents. To have the distinct pleasure and high honor of seeing his true self in action, doing something about it, has not only changed my view but my opinion of the man. He undersands more about the human condition than many Americans, and is in the trenches where it matters. What will come from his dedication to DH and the people who gather near it is yet to be known. But, the people of Southwest Scotland will know one thing for certain. He came. He came back. He stayed. For them. That is legacy! Very well done!

Members of the Royal family are excepted from the provisions of the Marriage Act 1949, and their marriages in England and Wales MUST be performed by Anglican clergy. There would be no obstacle to The Prince of Wales remarrying in Scotland as did his sister The Princess Royal where the Royal Family are not excepted from the provisions of the Scottish Marriage legislation. ‘TAMPAX’ CHARLES ‘MARRIAGE’ IS ILLEGAL BECAUSE HE REMARRIED IN ENGLAND AND HE WAS AWARE OF IT WHEN HE ILLEGALLY ‘MARRIED’ THE VILE ADULTEROUS POX RIDDLED CAMILLA WHORE

Bud Fields Hi Bud. I, too, am American and I have seen the redistribution of wealth upwards over decades. Not surprisingly, I have a very strong aversion to displays of wealth and the apparent values of uber-rich. However, I do appreciate beauty and, over the years, I have come to appreciate the prince and the royals generally. They, despite the opulence in which they live, are willing slaves to their positions and tradition. They also seem to be much more in touch with the average person than most the higher echelons of American society, which has a sense of entitlement that is, frankly, disgusting. So, God bless Charles. The British could have done worse, for sure.

charlotteq1, Just for the record, you have your facts totally wrong. 1. Why do you imagine that the Spencer bloodline is so fine? Diana's parents both divorced. Her brother has divorced twice. Diana suffered from an eating disorder and self- harm. 2. "Dreadfully poor genes" seems to be a strange way to label a family ehose members tend to be long-lived (except for those men who died of smoking-related diseases). 3. The Queen Mother did not have "five cousins" in mental institutions. They were her TWO neices, her brother's children, who inherited their condition from their mother's family, unrelatd to the Queen. 4. Prince Philip' mother, Princess Louise, She was at a slight disadvantage, as she was profoundly deaf from birth. However, she learnt to lip-read, and SPEAK FOUR LANGUAGES. Her deafness did not prevent her from nursing wounded solidiers in WWI. She was indeed placed in a mental hospital at a time when she converted from Greek Orthodoxy to Catholicism. She was placed there by the deposed GREEK Royal family and her divorced husband. . She escaped, made her way back to Athens, and founded a convent of nuns. In World War II she was in Athens, and took in a Jewish family who she hid in her home until she was able to help them to escape. She went to England after the war, attended the marriage of Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip, attended the Coronation, and lived out the rest of her life, as a nun, at Windsor Castle. At her request, she was buried at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, Jerusalem. Does this woman sound mad? Or does she sound extraordinarily intelligent, courageous and resilient?

Wars, murder torture and theft so a very fair point to make, Henry the 8th basically murdered people he didn't like, but the British love a good serial killer, they take them into their hearts. Charles friends reads more like a list of people to avoid like the plague. Jimmy Saville and various other notorious paedophiles, It's not as though they aren't thoroughly vetted and their private lives gone through with a fine tooth comb, before being allowed into the inner sanctum of the royal family. Does Charles do a good job, well let's just say it's not exactly a job as he didn't apply for it, he was awarded it, and the job description he wrote himself, talk about how the other half live pffft

she began claiming that she was receiving divine messages, and that she had healing powers.[24] In 1930, after suffering a severe nervous breakdown, Princess Andrew was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, first by Thomas Ross, a psychiatrist who specialised in shell-shock, and subsequently by Sir Maurice Craig, who treated the future King George VI before he had speech therapy.[25] The diagnosis was confirmed at Dr Ernst Simmel's sanatorium at Tegel, Berlin.[26] She was forcibly removed from her family and placed in Dr Ludwig Binswanger's sanatorium in Kreuzlingen, Switzerland.[27] It was a famous and well-respected institution with several celebrity patients, including Vaslav Nijinsky, the ballet dancer and choreographer, who was there at the same time as Princess Andrew.[28] Binswanger also diagnosed schizophrenia. Both he and Simmel consulted Sigmund Freud who believed that the princess's delusions were the result of sexual frustration. He recommended "X-raying her ovaries in order to kill off her libido." Princess Andrew protested her sanity and repeatedly tried to leave the asylum.[25]

I loved the documentary, I do not understand as to why the people of the UK believe he will not make a great King, I believe the opposite he will be an excellent King. He is well versed in looking back at the past to create a future for the next generations to come, areas like Poundbary and of course Dumfries House.

This documentary has given me new hope for the future of the Monarchy and the people at the head of it! More of these insights into what the Royal Family do are needed to keep, not only our interest in them, but to see the work and dedication they do on a daily basis. Great documentary!

Despite the ugliness that has happened in the past, I adore him. has anybody ever tried being a Prince or being born into the Royal Family? It sucks. You can't be yourself. You have to represent the family the crown and your principles have to be rigid because god forbid, something could be taken out of context. Is he perfect, NO. He should have never married Diana and she should have never accepted. But we all make mistakes, and truth be told the man is elegant and he is thoughtful...he's even adopted a high Vegan diet to help show the world that we need to change our ways in order to preserve the EArth's natural resources. He's an amazing gardener and father. I absolutely adore him and nothing could change my mind. It must be very hard to represent a royal family, when in fact, maybe he just wanted to be himself...which was NOT a privilege for him. AND what he has done to buy this home and all the land will benefit England for centuries to come and help heal his spirit as he can throw himself into his gardening life. Thank God he has some kind of freedom now.

***** Members of the Royal family are excepted from the provisions of the Marriage Act 1949, and their marriages in England and Wales MUST be performed by Anglican clergy. There would be no obstacle to The Prince of Wales remarrying in Scotland as did his sister The Princess Royal where the Royal Family are not excepted from the provisions of the Scottish Marriage legislation. ‘TAMPAX’ CHARLES ‘MARRIAGE’ IS ILLEGAL BECAUSE HE REMARRIED IN ENGLAND AND HE WAS AWARE OF IT WHEN HE ILLEGALLY ‘MARRIED’ THE VILE ADULTEROUS CAMILLA WHORE

Out of the own words of Diana in an interview, she married out of love. So for you to say he should have never....well...Their lives and bad times were meant to happen, It is part of life. I can never stop to wonder what would have been of Diana. Does Prince Charles look happy? Yes! Do I believe he's ready to be king now? Yes! But that wasn't the case 20 years ago. I'm sure his children will follow on his father's foot steps.

I wonder how she feels when she wears Lady/Princess Diana's jewels? Knowing that she was the main cause of the marriage breaking. Prince Charles gave Princess Diana a diamond necklace with diamond heart, to which Diana added a hanging emerald. Camilla wears such heart and hanging emerald as a brooch these days. Does anyone know where the tiara Camilla wears came from? It's oversize makes it looks almost fake. Personally, prefer the ones Prince Ann wear. Small, but very elegant!

Everybody knows Camilla is a vile toxic evil adulteress and although idiot ‘Tampax’ Charles has spent literally millions on “spin” to improve her wretched image (both physically and morally) the despicable putrid cancerous core shows through her evil MYRA HINDLEY like eyes. Most people are not fooled by this false façade; even HM the Queen famously described the camilla adulteress as “THAT WICKED WOMEN” [sic] a character disposed to serious cruel willful wrongdoing MORALLY DEPRAVED shameful, spiteful, malicious and vicious!

Anne pritchard-smith I suspect that you are the only person that knows the Duchess of Cornwall for all the dreadful things you ascribe to her. You seem obsessed by defaming the defenceless. Perhaps you should seek help because left unattended this kind of thing can escalate into serious mental illness.

As an American who has an interest in all things British, I found this program interesting and informative as an example of the service that a Royal can provide. The United Kingdom should feel well served by the Sovereign and all the members of her family.
