Have you already done a video on your top favorite albums? I'd love to hear what you got to say.
@scaleitback1055Ай бұрын
I try not to make videos about what I like and concentrate more on what is actually presented in the music. I can make a video about my favorite stuff but at the end of the day my opinion is no more valid than anyone else’s.

@@scaleitback1055 I like how you distinguish between what you like and what is good songwriting. A video on the latter could be illuminating for many, as people generally don't focus on these finer narrative details. Candidates for a focus video: The Erosion of Sanity, Longing for Death, The Red in the Sky is Ours.

@scaleitback1055 I think your opinion is more valid 😅

Great content. You probably wouldn’t be interested, but it would be cool to see a top 20 or ten of your favorite death metal albums.

Great analysis as usual. I would absolutely love to hear your opinion on this group “Berried Alive” I think it may have Polyphia beaten as far as how insufferable they are and cringe factor.

What do you think of heavy use of orchestral elements in extreme metal? (i.e. Phlebotomized debut, Haggard - And Thou Shalt Trust…, Graveworm - As The Angels Reach The Beauty)

In terms of motif development in metal, do you think Holy Wars is a good enough example to get across the idea of how parts should fit next to each other?
@scaleitback1055Ай бұрын
Kind of a trick question since after the acoustic interlude it becomes …And The Punishment Due, but the strength of the whole song is more in the peaks and valleys in energy. The very end of the song is kind of a wink-at-the-camera callback to the beginning but aside from that, melodically there isn’t a whole lot tying the the two halves together aside from variations on the shapes in the Holy Wars verse riff and the phrases in between the natural harmonics in the second half. The flow of the entirety of the track is seamless though, despite the frantic nature of the beginning and the dirgey aspects of the middle, and it somehow manages to construct a complete identity as a song even though it doesn’t really develop on themes so much as it allows varying ideas to sit next to each other while letting the pacing tell the story instead. But I’m also trying to remember everything about the song while watching a movie, so hopefully I’m not too far off.

Couldn't tell what the artwork reminded me of until this video. Shit is hilarious, it all started from Crowbar i guess.

One of their best records I would say. Sounds like it's just not for you, which is fine. However, your analysis is very well done and thorough, and I would agree that Ulcerate is not really a "technical death metal" band in the traditional sense.

I’ve always hated the “discordant” label. Bands like them and especially Deathspell Omega I can’t stand. Portal has some decent stuff but that’s about it.

Not only that, it's always priased as unique ajd avant garde when there's a GLUT of these band clogging the fucking toilet

@billybobthekidiswackАй бұрын
@cesarcampos8746 that's because Avant-garde "music" is fundamentally discordant and most of these dissonant bands take influence from that style

It's not even original either, black metal has always incorporated dissonant riffs. Averse Sefirs pretty much perfected the dissonant style in 1999 as well, far better than anything that DSO etc ever put out

You could supercut their best moments from their whole career in a 5-10 minute video and imagine hearing a swarm of bees in between each one and it would be far more rewarding than a full album’s listen.
