I take a deep dive into explaining what I think causes IBD based on research as well as explaining some big changes I have made to my overall Boot Camp philosophy. I've been suffering with UC for five months now. My daily flares start at 11 a.m. then peak at about 2-3 p.m I'm on meds . Do you recommend starting with the juice cabbage to reduce my inflammation ? Or start with the meals you showed at the end of this video ?

The problem of Crohn's is the blood. I treated it through the blood. I took herbs from us from Egypt. I bought it. It was called a cholesterol solvent and a liver fat solvent. I was cured of Crohn's. It simply means the colon is not the actual problem. The whole story is blood. recover....

I am so grateful to you! I have newly diagnosed ulcerative colitis that put me in the hospital for 6 days. Not one Healthcare professional has given me the info you have. I have been studying this disease the last few days and have made clumsy attempts to eat correctly. The left lower abdominal pain comes and goes, but the diarrhea and weakness are relentless. I saw this particular video you put out and learned so much, because you understand! Found your channel last week and cried of happiness in the middle of the street. Ordered reversed osmosis system and started boiling water for now. Started with blueberry shake, probiotics and fermented foods. Reporting 3 days of soft poops after 18 months of Hell. Still have a long way to go but feeling confident and optimistic. I was diagnosed with UC literally yesterday :( I know a couple family members with it but they do not lead healthy lives and I don’t want to end up like that. @@ForeverVersatile I had really painful stomach cramping mostly when I ate anything, had to go to the bathroom a lot, it became very concerning when I started seeing blood so that’s when I talked to a GI doctor who suggested a colonoscopy. If you haven’t talked to a GI doctor yet, definitely do!

@@christianl3852 since being diagnosed they have put me on steroids (until i can start Stelara) which helps throughout the day, but I’m still experiencing bloating, painful stomach/intestinal cramps, and having to go to the bathroom multiple times a day. My symptoms are definitely lighter when I take the steroids

Very excited I found your video. I’ve recently been diagnosed with UC after I had my first flare (praying my last). Before then I never had any issues with my digestive system so I thought. I was able to eat anything with out irrigation or diarrhea. I didn’t have diarrhea ever before my flare. Anyway, I’m currently on Humira and all though it’s working my goal is to really be off of it. I’m going to try to follow all your advice 🙏🏽

This is really interesting, thank you. I retired yesterday from teaching psychology and have begun to incorporate you protocols in my diet after having had a nasty flare up and didnt know what it was. I come from a generation where high fibre was king in the UK-I have since realised that despite me wanting it to- it didnt suit me at all, so I have adapted. A journey to health is as important as the heros journey in any culture, so well done for taking that inspirational journey and thank you. Have you ever thought about the effect of emotion and stress on flare ups?

Sadly I couldn´t find any clean raw milk nor the bulk of blueberries...so I couldn´t really follow your bootcamp and went through a new bad flare up for three months...but your vids give me hope. Thank you very much for the kind words and for continuing to keep up with me over the past few years. I am personally a big fan of raw milk, but I don't think it's absolutely necessary to heal. I think you can substitute homemade kefir (from good quality pasteurized milk) or even use kefir/yogurt made from coconut milk. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help, praying for you.

Thank you for this video! Mostly everything i've been doing matches up with what you advise! I definitely agree with the water, I healed an ulcer last year mainly with cabbage juice and bone broth, incorporated some fermented veggies and avoided gluten and dairy and healed myself. When I thought I was in the clear I stopped eating fermented veggies - got cheap and was drinking fountain water from work...BIG mistake, I also started to eat bagels with cream cheese, which gave me a lovely ulcer in my intestines again! Ugh. At least I knew what to do to heal it, but mad at myself for not keeping up with the healthy lifestyle. Another thing I stumbled upon is Blood Type Diet, i'm an O+ and it said that my blood type is prone to ulcers...this made a lot of sense since it also said that I should be avoiding wheat and dairy and mostly eating meat and veggies. Since I was a vegetarian most of my life - I clearly messed myself up. Now i'm eating grass fed Beef, wild caught Salmon and more fermented veggies while drinking filtered water (FIJI's my fave) and am starting to feel SO much better, not only with my ulcer but mentally as well. Food is medicine! (Or poison) 😝

Still in early stages of putting together my own dietary change, unfortunately in Aus we're unable to legally buy Raw Milk ... so I'm looking for a good substitute. But mentally, I'm seeing life alot clearer now than I had since being diagnosed with U.C in 2017.

Hi Josh, thank you for the kind words. Just want to encourage you not to give up. Kefir can be made from high quality pasteurized milk. The fermentation process will still produce a large amount of beneficial gut microbiome optimizing probiotic microorganisms. If you want to avoid dairy entirely, you could do things like coconut milk kefir/yogurt as well. Hope that helps. Will be praying for your recovery!

I like the consistency better for my morning smoothy and I like mixing Kefir Yoghurt with Cacao Powder as a chocolate sorta yoghurt when I'm really struggling with cravings. The brand I buy is: The Collective - Natural Kefir Yoghurt It's lactose free also.

Hi Kenny great video man!!! Couple things though: turmeric's awesome anti-inflammatory properties need to be accompanied by black pepper. I think just adding a little bit to the rice will greatly enhance the absorption of it's properties. Also, the rice would be better washed and soaked before cooking as it greatly reduces the excessive starch content. Our saliva breaks down this starch and most people I know don't chew their rice properly and thus cause excessive undigested starch to enter the gut! Thanks for all the free info bro love what you are doing.

Great question. I know Jordan Rubin ate eggs during his healing process. I didn't eat them much while I was healing personally. I've been learning that the sulfur content in eggs could potentially negatively impact gut health. I'm not certain of this, but it is something to think about. It's very interesting to me because cabbage juice also contains a lot of sulfur but it was wonderful for my gut. I've also heard that the plant based sulfur has different effects than animal based sulfur. All that to say, I'm really not sure. I would suspect that moderate consumption of eggs would probably be okay, but I can't say for sure. I eat them now that I'm healed and have no issues with them whatsoever. Might be a bit of a trial and error thing. I'll look more into this and perhaps devote an entire video to it.

Thanks for posting this. I am excited to listen through! I have had intermittent and various digestive issues since taking anti-fungals in 2015. I do not know what triggered it otherwise (maybe cumulative factors). I have had mostly upper GI issues + constipation (diarrhea - & Severe gas pain was 2016 only). But I am realizing that what I did know is not being applied properly if its not helping me. I started cabbage juice due to GERD & chronic stomach pain and I feel SO much better after 10 days. (Thanks to your videos). Its def debloated my lower GI, too. I know that I have to be careful for the long run, so here begins my research. P.s. Exercise (especially engaging and then stretching diaphragm) has been helpful. My core/posture was weak which def contributed to indigestion.

Kenny - Thank you so much for this long lost Boot Camp ep. 10! I was quite excited when I saw the notification come though. I've been following much of your protocol for a few months now in preparation to ween off the meds for my UC. I've also looked at some of the things Mike (HYGG) and Jordan Rubin have put out there. You guys overlap in many areas, but I was curious about your stance on potatoes and white rice regarding their starch content. I know Jordan Rubin is very against starches. In your view, are the prebiotic properties in the potatoes and rice outweighing the issues with starch? I ask because I've really been enjoying the potatoes and rice. I'm looking for a few more food options and was wondering what your thoughts were on beans (specifically kidney, lima, chickpeas, and green peas), steel cut oats, and asparagus. I've read they all have great prebiotic qualities, but are they okay for those for those with IBD? Thank you again for all of these videos. Your channel is the first place I turned when I decided to heal my UC though diet. They've been so helpful.

Ah ja das frag ich mich auch. Ich esse momentan noch Eier, aber ich weiß nicht so genau, ob ich sie überhaupt vertrage. Aber ich kann auch nicht jeden Tag Fisch oder Fleisch essen. Meine Proteinquellen sind nämlich sehr limitiert wegen verschiedenen Allergien und Unverträglichkeiten, deswegen hab ich nur Fleisch, Eier oder Fisch zur Auswahl. Wie ist das bei dir?

Funnily enough I've just cooked some Turmeric Rice for the first time before watching this video, one thing I read about was cooling the rice in the fridge & re-heating before eating to increase resistant starch content, which it was said to be beneficial for UC. Do you have any experience or knowledge on this subject? Cheers

The same was also said of mashed potato, however with potato it said after the cooling process it should not be re-heated & eaten cold for optimal resistant starch. I’ll see how it goes down in the next couple of weeks, if you find anything interesting be sure to let me know! Cheers

Resistant starch is a very good way to consume starches for people who have Ulcerative Colitis because it is a great prebiotic for the 'good guys' in the colon; i.e. the beneficial bacteria. Many people who are in a bad flare might not be able to tolerate any sort of starches but for people who's symptoms are better, resistant starch is a very good way of getting food to the beneficial bacteria in the colon.

Hi Kenny, thank you for posting another terrific video. Extremely informative, useful and honest. I am wondering if a future video topic for you may look into how specific food types should be prioritised when trying to heal from IBD based on their specific molecular properties. For example, there are a number of studies which show the consumption of walnuts reduce colon cancer recurrence by ~40%, this is largely down to the production of butyrate. Additionally, compounds called elligitanins found in berries and pomegranate have been found to be highly bioactive against inflammation. This is specifically useful for IBD as these molecules are poorly absorbed meaning they act primarily in the GI tract. Let me know your thoughts on this and I’m happy to point you in the direction of a number of studies if of interest. Thanks, David

Hi Ryan, that's a great question. In the video I talked about certain people not handling high amounts of prebiotic soluble fiber (like the kind in my smoothies) very well while flaring. For that, I recommend going a little lower in fiber at first and then slowly building up the amount of prebiotic soluble fiber intake. It's really about balancing tolerability with progress. Some people, even while flaring, can handle the smoothies pretty well. If that's the case, then I think it's better to incorporate them sooner since they're very good for the gut microbiome. But, again, it all depends on if you can tolerate that amount of fiber. It's a little bit of trial and error and making informed decisions. If you want to be as safe as possible, maybe try the lower fiber approach to decrease the inflammation for a week or so, and then see if you can slowly transition to the smoothies. Hope that helps!

Great videos man! Puts many things into perspective for suffered and people seeking better health. Only thing that concerns me is the food combination. Milk should be consumed alone and not mixed with other foods. Starches/carbs and protein shouldn’t be mixed in a meal either.

A lot of people think Im carnivore or keto but we have people try to bring back carbs into their diet as fast as possible. Usually in a week or 2. Fiber is funny because I think the soothing gel of flaxseeds is considering fiber and is very soothing to the gut even in the worst stages.

Hi Kenny, I got UC in 2018 and last year I tried your recommended diet, it worked for 2-3 months but then my symptoms returned and my health got more worse than before. I found some KZfaq videos of "carnivore diet" and started following it. haven't faced any issue after that. solid poop with no blood. and I feel more energetic now 🙂

Hey Lucky, I too got UC last year and now doing the Cabbage juicing ,pro/prebiotics,small amounts meat,(Grass fed tho),I'm also type1 really hard for me to keep my numbers down. Good luck to you,oh yes the spice (ceyenne) is great for UC, it differs from other powders spice in that it actually heals ulcers. I use it with tumeric/black pepper.

I just fell over (matter over mind) when I saw your first video, because it was just like my way to recovery from having a active aggressive UC diagnosis in 2012, clean food from scratch, fresh produce fruits and veggies, purified water, probiotics, probiotics and hard training, and refusing to accept the disease, (mind over matter)

I was curious on what your thoughts are about the hypothesis that starchy carbohydrates (Like rice & potatoes) help feed pathogenic & inflammatory bacteria in the gut microbiome. I know many diets tailored to IBD focus on limiting the more complex polysaccharides and focus more on directly eating glucose and fructose from prebiotic fruits and vegetables.

I think it's a valid point to bring up for sure. As far as I understand, prebiotic fiber found in fruits and vegetables will still feed the pathogenic microorganisms in the gut the same way that starchy carbs will. Whatever type of microorganism is in highest abundance in the GM at the time, will be the one who benefits the most from the source of prebiotic fiber, whether from starchy carbs or fruits and veggies. BUT, the inclusion of probiotic microorganisms in the diet will hopefully help to correct that balance by competitive exclusion. Consistently consuming probiotics will hopefully lower the amount of pathogens and slowly become the dominant presence within the GM. This then begs the question, why not just consume probiotics and no prebiotics for a time? And then start consuming prebiotics once the ratio has flipped and the probiotics are more abundant than the pathogens? It's a great question that I don't know that I have the best answer for. I know some people who only take probiotics that really don't see much improvement. And I wonder if not including prebiotics decreases the survivability of the probiotics, even though they aren't necessarily the ones who benefit the most from prebiotics at first compared to the pathogens. My hypothesis is that even if pathogenic microorganisms are the most abundant and feed the most off of the prebiotics, it's still important to feed the probiotics with prebiotics so that the probiotics can survive long enough to begin competing with the dominant pathogens. Then over time, the probiotics will abound due to competitive exclusion and begin to benefit from the prebiotics far more than the pathogens, and the GM will return to homeostasis. All that to say, I don't know that it matters so much what type of prebiotics you're consuming, but rather that you're consuming probiotics in addition to the prebiotics. As far as I understand, prebiotics feed all types of microorganisms, good and bad. Hope that helps!

Kenny Honnas Thanks for the reply! Really interesting stuff for sure. I know there is lots of research being done on these relationships and specifically for IBD. Prebiotics are always important to get the SCFAs like butyrate and repair gut epithelial cells. I read that there is a new medication in clinical trials, IMU-856, that works to restore the intestinal barrier and tight junctions without impairing the immune system. Could be really promising along with other lifestyle changes for Crohns and Colitis.

I actually was really spoiled and was able to buy my kefir from a raw dairy that made their own kefir in-house. I typically think it's better to make your own kefir unless you know the people who make it and trust them/their process. However, if you can find a good brand at a store that you're pretty confident in, that might work as well. I'm typically just wary of store bought health foods in general.

Good video. Questions and Considerations: 1. Food combining: eg, proteins with dairy, fruit with vegetables. Fruit should be consumed on an empty stomach, especially apples, before a meal, not after. Water should be drunk before meals, not after. 2. Kefir: not if you're dairy intolerant. What do you suggest as the/an alternative, eg. water for shakes, ? 3. Animal protein: organic. Must consider what the animal was eating, eg. grains, antibiotics 4. Coconut oil: what if you're allergic to nuts? What do you suggest as an alternative? 5. White rice: good for diarrhea, but what if the problem is blockage/constipation (Crohn's)? Do you then suggest brown rice?
